## Frequently asked questions

### Are SayMei Games free to play?

Yes. Lantern Run is completely free, with no account needed. The other games are free to start: the first 3 levels of each difficulty are free (in Wok Rush, the first shift), with no account or card needed. A free account opens more: Lightning Links levels 1–10, Panda Tone Toss stages 1–6 and every Beijing shift in Wok Rush. Premium unlocks every level of those three games.

### Which Chinese learning game should I try first?

Start with Lightning Links. Its First time mode matches simple Chinese words to English. Then try Panda Tone Toss for Mandarin tones, Wok Rush to learn food words while you run a kitchen, or Lantern Run to catch words by ear while you run.

### Can I play if I’m completely new to Chinese?

Yes. Lightning Links has a First time option with pinyin and English meanings, Panda Tone Toss starts with individual tones, Wok Rush guides you through your first order, and Lantern Run starts slowly on its first level.

### What will I learn in Lightning Links?

Match Chinese words and phrases to their English meanings while finding paths between tiles. Use pinyin to get started, then switch to Chinese characters for more practice. You can turn off the timer in Settings.

### What will I learn in Panda Tone Toss?

Practice Mandarin tones by tossing pandas at matching targets. Listening mode trains your ear, while Tone Recall challenges you to remember a word’s dictionary tones from its characters and unmarked pinyin.

### What will I learn in Wok Rush?

Learn Chinese dish names, ingredients, and quantities as you cook, carry, and serve hungry customers. Read or listen to orders as you explore kitchens inspired by cities across China.

### What is Lantern Run?

A 3D running game. You hear a Mandarin word, then run through the gate with its meaning while you dodge trains and stay ahead of a dancing lion. Every level is free, and you don’t need an account.

### Are there challenges for intermediate and advanced learners?

Yes. Panda Tone Toss progresses to longer words and more complex tone patterns, while Lightning Links offers intermediate and advanced phrases. Lantern Run gets faster with each of its three levels. Wok Rush focuses on beginner food and restaurant vocabulary.

### Do I need sound or a microphone?

Only for Lantern Run’s Shout Boost mode, which asks to hear you say each word. If you’d rather not use a microphone, you tap the right pinyin instead. Turn on sound for the Listening modes in Panda Tone Toss and Wok Rush, and in Lantern Run, which plays each word aloud. For quiet practice, choose Lightning Links, Panda’s Tone Recall mode, Wok Rush’s Reading mode, or Lantern Run’s Read mode under Classic.

### Can I play on my phone, tablet, or computer?

Yes. Play in any modern browser with an internet connection. There’s nothing to install. Wok Rush is easier to play with your phone turned sideways.

### Will my game progress be saved?

Yes. Your completed levels save in this browser. Log in to sync new progress across your devices. Clearing browser data can remove progress that isn’t saved to your account. Lantern Run keeps its progress in this browser for now.

### Can I review words after playing?

After a Panda Tone Toss stage or a Wok Rush shift, you can save the words you practiced as flashcards in a free SayMei account. Lightning Links lists the phrases you missed on its results screen, and Lantern Run lists every word from the run, with its sound.

### How do the games fit with the rest of SayMei?

Use the games for quick practice. Review the words you save in Flashcards, then use them in a lesson with Mei Lin, SayMei’s AI tutor. Your first lesson is free.
