## A line from the workbook

我会说汉语！ (Wǒ huì shuō Hànyǔ!) — I can speak Chinese!

## By the end you can

- Sit a second full HSK 1 paper in the new format. 40 new questions, 20 listening and 20 reading, in about 40 minutes, with the parts, question counts and timing of the new HSK 1 paper (HSK 3.0).
- Practise all four listening parts. Choose a picture for each sentence, pick the right reply, match short dialogues to pictures, and answer a question about single sentences. Every recording plays twice. 你吃饭了吗？ (Nǐ chī fàn le ma?): Have you eaten?
- Practise all four reading parts. Match sentences to pictures and questions to replies, fill gaps from a word box, and answer a ★ question about each short sentence. 你会做饭吗？ (Nǐ huì zuò fàn ma?): Can you cook?
- Work to exam timing. Play the whole listening section straight through, take 3 minutes to copy your answers onto the answer sheet, then give the reading 20 minutes.
- Mark the paper yourself. The answer key covers all 40 questions, and the transcript prints every recording line by line, with pinyin and English.
- Compare your score with your first test. The Score yourself box counts your marks per section and names a SayMei workbook for any section below 60%, so you can see which part still costs you points.

## How to use this book

One sitting of about 45 minutes, then time to mark it. Take it a few days after HSK 1 Mock Test 1, or a week or two before your exam.

- Before you start: Set up. Print the paper and the answer sheet (page 11). Sit somewhere quiet with a pencil, headphones and a timer.
- About 12 minutes: Listening. Scan the QR code or open the free listening page, and play the whole listening section without pausing.
- 3 minutes: Copy your answers. Move your listening answers onto the answer sheet, as in the exam.
- 20 minutes: Reading. Set a timer for the reading section and stop when it rings.
- Afterwards: Mark and review. Score yourself with the key on page 15. For each listening mistake, read the transcript and replay that part's track.
- Next: Work on your weakest section. Use the workbook the score box names for any section below 60%, then try HSK 1 Mock Test 3.

## Who it's for

Learners preparing for HSK 1 on the new HSK 3.0 exam who have already taken one practice paper, and teachers who want a second paper with audio for a class.

Before you start: The HSK 1 words and grammar. You don't need to have taken Mock Test 1 first, but comparing the two scores shows your progress.

## Are the questions different from HSK 1 Mock Test 1?

Yes. All 40 questions are new. The paper's structure, parts and timing are the same, so your two scores compare fairly. You don't need to have taken Mock Test 1 first.

## What's in the paper?

Listening has 20 questions in four parts: choose a picture for each sentence, pick the right reply, match short dialogues to pictures, and answer a question about single sentences. Reading has 20: match sentences to pictures and questions to replies, fill gaps from a word box, and answer a ★ question about each short sentence.

## How long does it take?

About 45 minutes in one sitting: about 12 minutes of listening without pausing, 3 minutes to copy your answers, then 20 minutes of reading. Take it a few days after HSK 1 Mock Test 1, or a week or two before your exam.

## Does it have pinyin and audio?

Yes. The questions print pinyin with the characters, and the transcript gives pinyin and English for every recording. The audio is on this book's free listening page, linked by a QR code in the PDF, with the whole section as one track and each part on its own.

## How close is it to the real HSK 1 exam?

It follows the published structure of the new HSK 1 paper (HSK 3.0): the same sections, parts, number of questions and timing, with words from the 2025 HSK syllabus. SayMei wrote every question, so use it as practice. HSK 3.0 pass marks are not published, so treat your score as a guide.

## What do I do with my score?

Count your marks per section in the Score yourself box. Below 60% in reading, it points you to HSK 1 Reading Practice. Below 60% in listening, it points you to the HSK 1 Vocabulary Recall & Speaking Workbook, and to replaying each track with the transcript. Then try HSK 1 Mock Test 3.

## Do I need a SayMei account?

Yes, to download the PDF, and the account is free: sign up with Google, Apple or your email address. With it we email you a copy of the workbook, keep every workbook you download on your account on all your devices, save your place in the free online practice, and you can practise speaking with Mei Lin, SayMei's AI tutor.

## How do I print it?

The PDF is US Letter size. On A4 paper, choose "Fit to page" (or "Scale to fit") in the print dialog so nothing is cut off. Print the whole workbook or only the pages you need; colour looks best, and black and white works too.
