Email, blog post, article, speech, brochure, diary entry, letter and review, each with its layout, greeting and ending, from 欢迎留言！ on a blog to 此致 敬礼！ in a formal letter. - Plan and write a task on each of the five themes. Give one point for each side of the short-video debate with an example, then write a clean-plate campaign leaflet with headings and a call to act. 我认为两种看法都有道理。 (Wǒ rènwéi liǎng zhǒng kànfǎ dōu yǒu dàolǐ.): I think both views have a point. - Go further at HL. Each theme page shows two HL additions: answer a different view, show a feeling through a detail, add evidence from a class survey, or widen the idea beyond yourself. - Change your register for any reader. Write the same news as an email to a friend, a speech and a letter to parents, swapping 你 for 您 and 谢谢 for 非常感谢. 老师，我想请您帮个忙。 (Lǎoshī, wǒ xiǎng qǐng nín bāng ge máng.): Could I ask you a favour, teacher? - Mark a sample answer, then follow an 8-week plan. Only then listen to the SL model answer and read the HL notes. The book's own plan takes eight weeks. - Week 1: The paper and the text types. Read pages 3 and 4, then write the opening and the ending of all eight text types from memory and check them against page 4. - Weeks 2–3: Identities and Experiences. Pages 5 and 6. Plan in 10 minutes, write against the clock (1 h 15 at SL, 1 h 30 at HL), then listen to the SL model answer. - Week 4: Human Ingenuity. Page 7. Write a balanced article with one point for each side and a conclusion of your own. - Week 5: Social Organization and register. Pages 8 and 10. Write a formal letter to the head teacher, then rewrite it as an email to a friend. - Weeks 6–7: Sharing the Planet and marking. Page 9, then mark two of your answers with page 11 and rewrite the weaker one. At HL, add a different view and a wider idea to every answer. - Week 8: One full timed paper. Choose one of three tasks you haven't written, plan for 10 minutes, write, and keep 10 minutes to check word order, 了 and your ending. ## Who it's for Students of IB Chinese B (Language B Mandarin) at SL or HL preparing for Paper 1, the writing paper, and IB teachers who want tasks on all five themes with model answers. Before you start: Chinese at about HSK 3 to 5. The tasks are in Chinese with short English notes, and the free audio reads every SL model answer with a pause to say it back. The key has a model for every open task. ## Does it work for both SL and HL? Yes. Every theme page has an SL model answer (SayMei) and HL notes that show how a stronger answer goes further. The timings for both levels are on page 3. Ask your teacher for the character range in the current guide. ## Which IB guide does it follow?
