Alone in the cold, dark forest, Hansel and Gretel wait for the moon to rise, and Hansel's white pebbles are their only hope.

- Narrator 森林里，晚上很冷。这时候，月亮出来了。
Sēnlín li, wǎnshang hěn lěng. Zhè shíhou, yuèliang chūlai le.
In the forest, the night was cold. Then the moon came up.
- Gretel 哥哥，你看！好大的月亮！
Gēge, nǐ kàn! Hǎo dà de yuèliang!
Brother, look! What a big moon!
- Hansel 来，格莱特。你看路上！
Lái, Géláitè. Nǐ kàn lù shang!
Come on, Gretel. Look at the path!
- Gretel 白石头！它们好亮，像新的钱！
Bái shítou! Tāmen hǎo liàng, xiàng xīn de qián!
The white pebbles! They shine so bright, like new coins!
- Hansel 对。一块一块的，都在回家的路上。
Duì. Yí kuài yí kuài de, dōu zài huí jiā de lù shang.
That's right. One after another, all along the way home.
- Gretel 哥哥，你真好！我不哭了。
Gēge, nǐ zhēn hǎo! Wǒ bù kū le.
Brother, you're wonderful! I'm not crying anymore.
- Narrator 一块白石头，再一块白石头……他们走了一个晚上。
Yí kuài bái shítou, zài yí kuài bái shítou… tāmen zǒu le yí gè wǎnshang.
One white pebble, then the next... they walked all night long.
- Gretel 哥哥，你的小白猫呢？
Gēge, nǐ de xiǎo bái māo ne?
Brother, where's your little white cat?
- Hansel 它在房子上边看我们呢。它也想我们回家。
Tā zài fángzi shàngbian kàn wǒmen ne. Tā yě xiǎng wǒmen huí jiā.
Up on the roof, watching for us. It wants us home too.
- Gretel 早上了！我们到家了！
Zǎoshang le! Wǒmen dào jiā le!
It's morning! We're home!
- Hansel 爸爸！我们回来了！
Bàba! Wǒmen huílai le!
Father! We're back!
- the stepmother 你们这两个孩子！怎么在森林里睡到现在？我们觉得你们不回来了！
Nǐmen zhè liǎng gè háizi! Zěnme zài sēnlín li shuì dào xiànzài? Wǒmen juéde nǐmen bù huílai le!
You two! Why did you sleep in the forest till now? We thought you weren't coming back!
- the father 孩子们，是你们！太好了！你们饿不饿？
Háizimen, shì nǐmen! Tài hǎo le! Nǐmen è bu è?
Children, it's you! Oh, thank goodness! Are you hungry?
- Narrator 几个星期后，家里没有面包了。
Jǐ gè xīngqī hòu, jiā li méiyǒu miànbāo le.
A few weeks later, there was no bread in the house.
- the stepmother 只有半个面包了。我们四个人吃什么？孩子们要走。
Zhǐyǒu bàn gè miànbāo le. Wǒmen sì gè rén chī shénme? Háizimen yào zǒu.
There's only half a loaf left. What will the four of us eat? The children have to go.
- the father 我们四个人吃这半个面包，不好吗？
Wǒmen sì gè rén chī zhè bàn gè miànbāo, bù hǎo ma?
Couldn't the four of us share this half loaf?
- the stepmother 不好！这一次，我们去森林里边，再远一些。他们找不到路。
Bù hǎo! Zhè yí cì, wǒmen qù sēnlín lǐbian, zài yuǎn yìxiē. Tāmen zhǎo bú dào lù.
No! This time we go deeper into the forest, even farther. They won't find the way.
- the stepmother 上一次你说了好。这一次，你也要说好！
Shàng yí cì nǐ shuō le hǎo. Zhè yí cì, nǐ yě yào shuō hǎo!
Last time you said yes. This time you'll say yes too!
- the father 好吧。
Hǎo ba.
All right.
- Gretel 哥哥，你听见了吗？我们现在做什么？
Gēge, nǐ tīngjiàn le ma? Wǒmen xiànzài zuò shénme?
Brother, did you hear? What do we do now?
- Hansel 不要怕，格莱特。我再去找白石头，很多很多。
Bú yào pà, Géláitè. Wǒ zài qù zhǎo bái shítou, hěn duō hěn duō.
Don't be afraid, Gretel. I'll go and find more white pebbles, lots and lots.
- Narrator 爸爸和后妈睡了。汉赛尔到了门边。
Bàba hé hòumā shuì le. Hànsài'ěr dào le mén biān.
When the father and the stepmother were asleep, Hansel went to the door.
- Hansel 门开不了！怎么开不了？
Mén kāi bu liǎo! Zěnme kāi bu liǎo?
The door won't open! Why won't it open?
- Gretel 怎么了，哥哥？
Zěnme le, gēge?
What's wrong, Brother?
- Hansel 门锁了。是后妈锁的。
Mén suǒ le. Shì hòumā suǒ de.
It's locked. Our stepmother locked it.
- Gretel 那白石头呢？哥哥，我们没有白石头了！
Nà bái shítou ne? Gēge, wǒmen méiyǒu bái shítou le!
Then what about the white pebbles? Brother, we have no white pebbles!
- Hansel 白石头都在外边，在月亮下。这一次，我们怎么回家？
Bái shítou dōu zài wàibian, zài yuèliang xià. Zhè yí cì, wǒmen zěnme huí jiā?
The white pebbles are all outside, under the moon. This time, how will we get home?
