The very old woman in the doorway has caught two lost children eating her house. She doesn't scold them. She smiles. What does she want with them?

Sēnlín li, miànbāo fángzi de mén kāi le. Lǎo nǎinai láidào le háizimen qiánbian.
Deep in the forest, the door of the bread house had opened. The old woman came up to the children.
- the witch 孩子们，你们是怎么到这儿来的？
Háizimen, nǐmen shì zěnme dào zhèr lái de?
Children, how did you ever get here?
- Gretel 对不起，奶奶……我们吃了您的房子。
Duìbuqǐ, nǎinai… wǒmen chī le nín de fángzi.
I'm sorry, Granny... we ate your house.

There, good children, don't be afraid. Come into my home.
- Gretel 哥哥，我们去吗？
Gēge, wǒmen qù ma?
Brother, should we go?
- Hansel 她是好人，格莱特。我们去吧。
Tā shì hǎorén, Géláitè. Wǒmen qù ba.
She's a good person, Gretel. Let's go.
- the witch 来吧。在我这儿，没有不好的事。
Lái ba. Zài wǒ zhèr, méiyǒu bù hǎo de shì.
Come along. Here with me, nothing bad ever happens.
- Narrator 老奶奶的房子里边很热，桌子上都是吃的。
Lǎo nǎinai de fángzi lǐbian hěn rè, zhuōzi shang dōu shì chī de.
Inside the old woman's house it was warm, and the table was covered with food.
- Gretel 哥哥，你看！有牛奶，还有苹果！
Gēge, nǐ kàn! Yǒu niúnǎi, hái yǒu píngguǒ!
Brother, look! There's milk, and apples too!
- Hansel 这些饼上都有糖！
Zhèxiē bǐng shang dōu yǒu táng!
These pancakes all have sugar on them!
- the witch 吃吧。都是你们的。
Chī ba. Dōu shì nǐmen de.
Eat up. It's all for you.
- Hansel 谢谢奶奶！
Xièxie nǎinai!
Thank you, Granny!
- Gretel 你吃了那么多房子，还能吃吗？
Nǐ chī le nàme duō fángzi, hái néng chī ma?
You ate so much of the house, and you can still eat?
- Hansel 能！房子是房子，饼是饼！
Néng! Fángzi shì fángzi, bǐng shì bǐng!
Sure! A house is a house, and pancakes are pancakes!
- the witch 好了，睡觉吧。床在这儿。
Hǎo le, shuìjiào ba. Chuáng zài zhèr.
All right, time for bed. The beds are over here.
- Gretel 哥哥，两张小白床！一张是你的，一张是我的！
Gēge, liǎng zhāng xiǎo bái chuáng! Yì zhāng shì nǐ de, yì zhāng shì wǒ de!
Brother, two little white beds! One is yours, and one is mine!
- Hansel 好吧。那我要白一点儿的那张！
Hǎo ba. Nà wǒ yào bái yìdiǎnr de nà zhāng!
Fine. Then I want the whiter one!
- Gretel 哥哥！两张都是白的！
Gēge! Liǎng zhāng dōu shì bái de!
Brother! They're both white!
- the witch 睡吧。好好睡。
Shuì ba. Hǎohǎo shuì.
Sleep now. Sleep well.
- Gretel 哥哥，我们是在天上吗？
Gēge, wǒmen shì zài tiān shang ma?
Brother, are we in heaven?
- Hansel 我也觉得是。上帝帮了我们。
Wǒ yě juéde shì. Shàngdì bāng le wǒmen.
I think so too. God has helped us.
- Gretel 明天我们回家吗？
Míngtiān wǒmen huí jiā ma?
Are we going home tomorrow?
- Hansel 回。明天我们去找路，格莱特。
Huí. Míngtiān wǒmen qù zhǎo lù, Géláitè.
We are. Tomorrow we'll go and find the way, Gretel.
- Narrator 孩子们睡了。他们不知道，老奶奶不是好人。
Háizimen shuì le. Tāmen bù zhīdào, lǎo nǎinai bú shì hǎorén.
The children slept. They didn't know that the old woman was not a good person.
- Narrator 她是一个巫婆。来这儿的孩子，她都做了吃。
Tā shì yí gè wūpó. Lái zhèr de háizi, tā dōu zuò le chī.
She was a witch. Any child who came here, she cooked and ate.
- the witch 我的面包房子真好。小孩子都喜欢……
Wǒ de miànbāo fángzi zhēn hǎo. Xiǎo háizi dōu xǐhuan…
My bread house is so good. Little children all love it...
- Narrator 巫婆的眼睛红红的，看不远。有人来，她都知道。
Wūpó de yǎnjing hónghóng de, kàn bu yuǎn. Yǒu rén lái, tā dōu zhīdào.
The witch's eyes were red, and she couldn't see far. Whenever anyone came near, she knew.
- the witch 两个孩子，都是我的了。他们走不了了！
Liǎng gè háizi, dōu shì wǒ de le. Tāmen zǒu bu liǎo le!
Two children, and both of them mine now. They're not going anywhere!
