SayMei

Chinese dialogues

Every SayMei dialogue is a short conversation between two people, written for one HSK level, recorded with two voices and laid out line by line in characters, tone-marked pinyin and English. New ones arrive every day: everyday situations like ordering food or asking for directions, and topics people are talking about this week.

Listen or speak the same dialogue

Open a dialogue to listen. The player shows one line at a time, with the speaker's name, pinyin over the characters and the English underneath. Slow it to 0.75x or 0.5x, loop a line, turn pinyin or English off, and tap any word for its meaning. The full transcript and the new words sit under the player. Choose speaking practice instead and you take one of the two roles: your partner says their line, you say yours, and each word lights up when it is heard.

Finding the right dialogue

  • Pick your level first. HSK 1 and 2 dialogues are short and use common words; HSK 3 and above run longer and faster.
  • Browse the shelves: this week's top 10, new dialogues, everyday conversations, and topics from movies and music to travel and health.
  • Search for a topic, an English word, pinyin without tones, or characters.

What is free

Listening is free and needs no account; Chinese listening practice explains how to get the most from it. A free account saves your progress and new words to flashcards, counts toward your streak and includes one speaking session a day. SayMei Premium makes speaking practice unlimited. For a conversation without a script, talk with Mei Lin, who answers in real time.

A routine that works

Listen once without the text. Turn on pinyin and English and listen again, looping the lines you missed. Speak the dialogue in one role, then swap roles. Save the new words and review them the next day. One dialogue worked through this way teaches more than several played in the background.

Frequently asked questions

Are SayMei's Chinese dialogues free?

Listening to every dialogue is free and needs no account. A free account adds saved words, flashcards, your streak and one speaking session a day. SayMei Premium makes speaking practice unlimited; listening stays free either way.

What is the difference between listening and speaking practice?

Listening practice plays a dialogue line by line and lets you show or hide characters, pinyin and English while you work out what was said. Speaking practice gives you one speaker's role and checks what you say against the line on screen. Both use the same dialogues, so you can do one straight after the other.

How hard are the dialogues at each HSK level?

Each dialogue is written for one level. HSK 1 and 2 dialogues are short, with simple sentences and common words; HSK 3 adds longer turns; HSK 4 and above sound like everyday adult conversation. Start one level below where you read comfortably, because listening usually lags reading.

How often are new dialogues added?

New dialogues are written and recorded every day: everyday situations at HSK 1 and 2, and topics people are talking about this week at every level. Each one gets two voices, an illustration and a full transcript before it appears in the library.
