Many learners know how to express "if" in Mandarin with 如果 (rúguǒ), but stumble when they need to say that something is the only way — not just one option, but the single necessary condition. That's what 只有...才 (zhǐyǒu...cái) — Only If / Only When is for.
The structure is: 只有 + Condition，才 + Result. Place 只有 before the one thing that must happen, then 才 before the outcome. This pattern declares that no other path leads to the result.
Key example: 只有多练习，才能学好中文。(zhǐyǒu duō liàn xí, cái néng xué hǎo zhōng wén.) — "Only by practicing more can you learn Chinese well."
