How to use this book
Ten minutes a day, one page at a time: the word cards first and the mini test last. Every Chinese line is on the free audio with a pause to say it back. Made for ages 7 to 9.
- Days 1–4: Word cards. One page of eight cards a day (pages 3 to 6). Play the audio, point at each picture and say the word together.
- Days 5–7: Listening. Pages 7 to 9. Play each track and let your child circle or point. Hide the audio script at the back until you check.
- Days 8–10: Reading. Pages 10 to 12. Read the sentences, the menu and the day plan together, then play breakfast shop with page 11.
- Days 11–12: Mini test. Pages 13 and 14. Play each listening track twice, as the page says, then mark the answers with the key.
- Afterwards: Listen again. For each mistake, play that track once more and let your child fix the answer by listening. Praise every try with 說得好!
Who it’s for
Children aged 7 to 9 getting ready for the CCCC Sprouting level, Taiwan's Children's Chinese Competency Certification, with a parent, teacher or tutor. Grown-ups don't need to speak Chinese.
Before you start: Nothing. The words start from hello and family. Characters are Traditional, as in Taiwan, the word cards show zhuyin, and pinyin is printed for grown-ups.
Frequently asked questions
Why Traditional characters and zhuyin?
The CCCC is Taiwan's Chinese test for children, so the book uses Traditional characters and Taiwan words such as 捷運 (MRT), 便當 (lunch box) and 腳踏車 (bike). The word cards show zhuyin beside each word, and pinyin is printed for grown-ups.
Which parts of the CCCC Sprouting test does it practise?
Listening and reading. Your child picks pictures, places things in a big picture, matches sentences, checks true or false, and reads a menu and a day plan, then tries a two-page mini test. SayMei wrote every question, so it is practice in the CCCC Sprouting question types.
Where are the listening sentences printed?
Only in the audio script at the back, so your child listens instead of reading. Play the track, let them circle or point, then check with the key and the script together.
Is this workbook free?
Yes. The whole 17-page PDF is free, and you can look through its pages here before you download. There's no card and nothing to pay.
