• Know what the Band C paper asks of you. One paper covers Level 5 (流利級) and Level 6 (精通級): 50 listening and 50 reading questions, about an hour each, all with four options.

• Follow long dialogues and read each speaker's attitude. A student and her professor, an employee and his manager, two friends planning a test date: work out who agrees, who doesn't and what they decide.

• Catch the main point of lectures and talks. A university lecture on ageing in Taiwan, a museum guide and a study-skills talk, with questions on the main point and the key details.

• Pick out facts, views and reasons in news and interviews. Two news reports and a radio interview: separate what happened from what people think about it and why.
• Choose the formal word or set phrase for each gap. Linking words like 儘管 … 仍然, four-character expressions like 半途而廢 and verb-noun pairs like 達成共識.
• Complete passages and read longer articles. Fill gaps with linking words and whole sentences, then find the writer's view in an essay, a survey report and a news feature, often after 然而, 卻 or 事實上.
• Sit two 10-question mini tests to Band C pace. A listening test and a reading test, 12 minutes each, then the answer key and the full audio script.

How to use this book

The book's own plan on page 13 runs over six weeks. Read the four options before each track, choose, then play it once more and check the audio script in the key.

1. Week 1: Words and long dialogues. Learn the words page and say one sentence of your own with each word. Do Listening 1, guessing before each track what the speakers will disagree about.
2. Week 2: Talks and news. Do Listening 2 and 3, noting each speaker's main point in one line. Retell one Taiwan news broadcast or podcast a day in three sentences.
3. Weeks 3–4: Reading at test pace. Do Reading 1 to 3 at about a minute a question, and read one long article a day in Traditional characters.
4. Week 5: The mini tests. Take both mini tests with a 12-minute timer each, check the key and redo every question you missed.
5. Week 6: Build stamina. Read for a full hour in one sitting so 50 questions in a row feels normal, and give a two-minute talk on a topic from the book.

Who it’s for

Advanced learners preparing for TOCFL Band C (Levels 5 and 6), often for graduate study in Taiwan, jobs that use Chinese all day or teaching, who want practice in its listening and reading question types.

How close is it to the TOCFL Band C test?

It practises the Band C listening and reading question types: long dialogues, lectures, news, interviews, word gaps, passages and articles, all with four options. SayMei wrote every question. The two mini tests are 10 questions each, so use them as checks rather than a full-length paper.

Does it use Traditional characters and Taiwan words?

Yes. Everything is in Traditional characters, with Taiwan usage such as 研究所, 軟體, 資訊 and 部落格, and the words page gives the mainland word beside the Taiwan one.

Where is the audio, and is the listening printed?
