Who Stole the Tarts?

The Knave of Hearts is on trial for stealing the Queen's tarts, the Hatter is a hopeless witness, and Alice feels herself starting to grow again.

Fǎtíng lǐ zuò mǎn le dòngwù hé zhǐpái. Guówáng dāng fǎguān, tā de wángguān dài zài yì dǐng dà jiǎfà shang.
The courtroom was packed with animals and playing cards. The King was the judge, and he wore his crown on top of a big wig.
- Narrator 红心杰克站在中间。桌子上放着一大盘馅饼，看起来好吃极了。
Hóngxīn Jiékè zhàn zài zhōngjiān. Zhuōzi shang fàngzhe yí dà pán xiànbǐng, kàn qǐlái hǎochī jí le.
The Knave of Hearts stood in the middle. On a table sat a big plate of tarts that looked absolutely delicious.
- White Rabbit 大家安静！红心王后做馅饼，一做就是一整天。红心杰克偷馅饼，一个一个都不见！
Dàjiā ānjìng! Hóngxīn Wánghòu zuò xiànbǐng, yí zuò jiù shì yì zhěng tiān. Hóngxīn Jiékè tōu xiànbǐng, yí gè yí gè dōu bú jiàn!
Silence in court! The Queen of Hearts made tarts, she baked them all day long. The Knave of Hearts then stole the tarts, and now the tarts are gone!
- King of Hearts 好！现在大家决定吧：他是不是小偷？
Hǎo! Xiànzài dàjiā juédìng ba: tā shì bu shì xiǎotōu?
Good! Now, everyone, decide: is he a thief or not?
- White Rabbit 还不行，国王陛下，还不行！还要先问证人呢！
Hái bù xíng, guówáng bìxià, hái bù xíng! Hái yào xiān wèn zhèngrén ne!
Not yet, Your Majesty, not yet! First we have to hear the witnesses!
- King of Hearts 那好，叫第一个证人！
Nà hǎo, jiào dì yī gè zhèngrén!
Very well. Call the first witness!
- Narrator 帽匠走了进来，一只手拿着茶杯，一只手拿着黄油面包。
Màojiàng zǒu le jìnlái, yì zhī shǒu názhe chábēi, yì zhī shǒu názhe huángyóu miànbāo.
In came the Hatter, with a teacup in one hand and a slice of bread and butter in the other.
- Hatter 对不起，国王陛下，我的茶还没喝完……
Duìbuqǐ, guówáng bìxià, wǒ de chá hái méi hē wán…
Begging your pardon, Your Majesty, I hadn't quite finished my tea…
- King of Hearts 把你的帽子拿下来！……不是你的？那就是偷来的！
Bǎ nǐ de màozi ná xiàlái!… Bú shì nǐ de? Nà jiù shì tōu lái de!
Take off your hat!… It isn't yours? Then it's stolen!
- Hatter 不，不！这些帽子是我要卖的。我自己一顶帽子也没有，我是帽匠啊！
Bù, bù! Zhèxiē màozi shì wǒ yào mài de. Wǒ zìjǐ yì dǐng màozi yě méiyǒu, wǒ shì màojiàng a!
No, no! These hats are for selling. I haven't got a single hat of my own. I'm a hatter!
- King of Hearts 说出你知道的事。别紧张，不然我就砍掉你的头！
Shuō chū nǐ zhīdào de shì. Bié jǐnzhāng, bùrán wǒ jiù kǎndiào nǐ de tóu!
Tell us what you know. And don't be nervous, or I'll have your head cut off!
- Narrator 帽匠紧张得咬了一口茶杯，没咬到面包。这时候，爱丽丝觉得自己又在慢慢变大。
Màojiàng jǐnzhāng de yǎo le yì kǒu chábēi, méi yǎo dào miànbāo. Zhè shíhou, Àilìsī juéde zìjǐ yòu zài mànmàn biàn dà.
The Hatter was so nervous that he bit a piece out of his teacup instead of his bread and butter. Just then, Alice felt herself slowly starting to grow again.
- King of Hearts 下一个证人……爱丽丝！
Xià yí gè zhèngrén… Àilìsī!
Next witness… Alice!
- Alice 在这儿！……哎呀，对不起，我的裙子把你们都碰倒了！
Zài zhèr!… Āiyā, duìbuqǐ, wǒ de qúnzi bǎ nǐmen dōu pèng dǎo le!
Here!… Oh dear, I'm sorry, my skirt's knocked you all over!

Guānyú xiànbǐng, nǐ zhīdào shénme?
What do you know about the tarts?
- Alice 什么也不知道。
Shénme yě bù zhīdào.
Nothing.
- King of Hearts 一点儿也不知道？这一点非常重要！大家记下来！
Yìdiǎnr yě bù zhīdào? Zhè yì diǎn fēicháng zhòngyào! Dàjiā jì xiàlái!
Nothing whatsoever? That is extremely important! Write that down, everyone!
- King of Hearts 第四十二条规定：比一公里还高的人，都要离开这里！
Dì sìshí'èr tiáo guīdìng: bǐ yì gōnglǐ hái gāo de rén, dōu yào líkāi zhèlǐ!
Rule Forty-Two: anyone taller than a kilometer must leave the court!
- Alice 我没有一公里高！这条规定是您刚刚编的！
Wǒ méiyǒu yì gōnglǐ gāo! Zhè tiáo guīdìng shì nín gānggāng biān de!
I'm not a kilometer tall! And you just made that rule up!
- King of Hearts 胡说，这是书里最老的一条规定！
Húshuō, zhè shì shū lǐ zuì lǎo de yì tiáo guīdìng!
Nonsense! It's the oldest rule in the book!
- Alice 最老的？那它应该是第一条，不是第四十二条！
Zuì lǎo de? Nà tā yīnggāi shì dì yī tiáo, bú shì dì sìshí'èr tiáo!
The oldest? Then it ought to be Rule Number One, not Forty-Two!
- King of Hearts 快……快决定吧，他是不是小偷？
Kuài… kuài juédìng ba, tā shì bu shì xiǎotōu?
Quick… quickly, decide: is he a thief or not?
- Queen of Hearts 不！先砍掉他的头，再决定！
Bù! Xiān kǎndiào tā de tóu, zài juédìng!
No! Cut off his head first, and decide afterwards!
- Alice 真是胡说！哪有这样的道理？
Zhēn shì húshuō! Nǎ yǒu zhèyàng de dàoli?
What nonsense! Whoever heard of such a thing?
- Queen of Hearts 闭嘴！砍掉她的头！
Bì zuǐ! Kǎndiào tā de tóu!
Hold your tongue! Off with her head!
- Alice 谁怕你们？你们只是一副纸牌！
Shéi pà nǐmen? Nǐmen zhǐ shì yí fù zhǐpái!
Who's afraid of you? You're only a pack of cards!
- Narrator 所有的纸牌都飞了起来，向她扑了过来。爱丽丝大叫一声，用手去挡……
Suǒyǒu de zhǐpái dōu fēi le qǐlái, xiàng tā pū le guòlái. Àilìsī dà jiào yì shēng, yòng shǒu qù dǎng…
The whole pack flew up into the air and came swooping down on her. Alice cried out and threw up her hands to beat them off…
- Narrator 她醒了过来。原来她躺在河边，姐姐正轻轻地拿掉她脸上的几片树叶。
Tā xǐng le guòlái. Yuánlái tā tǎng zài hébiān, jiějie zhèng qīngqīng de ná diào tā liǎn shang de jǐ piàn shùyè.
And she woke up. She was lying on the riverbank, and her sister was gently brushing a few leaves from her face.
- Alice's Sister 醒醒，爱丽丝！你睡得真久啊。
Xǐngxing, Àilìsī! Nǐ shuì de zhēn jiǔ a.
Wake up, Alice! You've been asleep for ages.
- Alice 姐姐？……我做了一个特别奇怪的梦！
Jiějie?… Wǒ zuò le yí gè tèbié qíguài de mèng!
Sister?… Oh, I've had the strangest dream!
- Alice 我跟着一只看怀表的白兔，掉进了兔子洞。还有会笑的猫，永远六点钟的茶会……
Wǒ gēnzhe yì zhī kàn huáibiǎo de Bái Tù, diào jìn le tùzi dòng. Hái yǒu huì xiào de māo, yǒngyuǎn liù diǎn zhōng de cháhuì…
I followed a White Rabbit with a pocket watch down a rabbit hole. And there was a grinning cat, and a tea party where it was always six o'clock…
- Alice's Sister 真是一个奇怪的梦。好了，快回家喝茶吧，不早了。
Zhēn shì yí gè qíguài de mèng. Hǎo le, kuài huí jiā hē chá ba, bù zǎo le.
What a strange dream. Now hurry home for tea. It's getting late.
- Alice 好！我要把这个梦，讲给黛娜听！
Hǎo! Wǒ yào bǎ zhège mèng, jiǎng gěi Dàinà tīng!
All right! I'm going to tell Dinah all about it!
- Narrator 姐姐坐在河边，想：以后爱丽丝长大了，也会把仙境里的这个梦，讲给小孩子们听吧。
Jiějie zuò zài hébiān, xiǎng: yǐhòu Àilìsī zhǎngdà le, yě huì bǎ Xiānjìng lǐ de zhège mèng, jiǎng gěi xiǎo háizimen tīng ba.
Her sister sat on by the river, thinking: one day, when Alice is grown up, she'll tell this dream of Wonderland to little children, too.
