The witch wants Gretel inside the flaming oven. Gretel has cried for weeks; now, with her brother in the cage, she has one chance to think fast.

That morning, the fire in the oven was big and hot. The witch stood behind Gretel.
- the witch 我说了，进去！面包还要做呢！
Wǒ shuō le, jìnqù! Miànbāo hái yào zuò ne!
I said get in! There's bread to bake!
- Gretel 哥哥还在笼子里，一个人。今天，她要吃我哥哥……
Gēge hái zài lóngzi li, yí gè rén. Jīntiān, tā yào chī wǒ gēge…
Brother is still in the cage, all alone. Today she's going to eat my brother...

I can't die here. And Brother can't die either!
- Gretel 不哭了，格莱特。想一想……我知道了！
Bù kū le, Géláitè. Xiǎng yi xiǎng… wǒ zhīdào le!
No more crying, Gretel. Think... I know!
- Gretel 我不知道怎么做。我要怎么进去呢？
Wǒ bù zhīdào zěnme zuò. Wǒ yào zěnme jìnqù ne?
I don't know how. How am I supposed to get in?
- the witch 怎么进去？门是开的！你看不见吗？
Zěnme jìnqù? Mén shì kāi de! Nǐ kàn bu jiàn ma?
How do you get in? The door is open! Can't you see?
- Gretel 我看见了。门太小了，我太大了，真的！
Wǒ kànjiàn le. Mén tài xiǎo le, wǒ tài dà le, zhēn de!
I see it. The door's too small, and I'm too big. Really!
- the witch 你大？你这个小东西！门这么大，我也能进去！
Nǐ dà? Nǐ zhège xiǎo dōngxi! Mén zhème dà, wǒ yě néng jìnqù!
You, big? You little thing! The door's so big, even I could get in!
- the witch 你什么都不会！你看我！
Nǐ shénme dōu bú huì! Nǐ kàn wǒ!
You can't do anything! Watch me!
- Gretel 好，我看。
Hǎo, wǒ kàn.
All right, I'm watching.
- the witch 火很好，很热……
Huǒ hěn hǎo, hěn rè…
The fire's good, nice and hot...
- Gretel 她的头在烤炉里了……格莱特，不要怕！
Tā de tóu zài kǎolú li le… Géláitè, bú yào pà!
Her head is in the oven... Gretel, don't be afraid!
- Gretel 您说进去？那您进去吧！
Nín shuō jìnqù? Nà nín jìnqù ba!
You said get in? Then in you go!
- Narrator 格莱特在后边一推，巫婆进去了。
Géláitè zài hòubian yì tuī, wūpó jìnqù le.
Gretel gave one push from behind, and in the witch went.
- Gretel 关上门，格莱特！
Guānshàng mén, Géláitè!
Shut the door, Gretel!
- Gretel 关上了，也锁上了！
Guānshàng le, yě suǒshàng le!
It's shut, and bolted too!
- the witch 格莱特！你在做什么？
Géláitè! Nǐ zài zuò shénme?
Gretel! What are you doing?
- the witch 好孩子，奶奶给你好吃的……
Hǎo háizi, nǎinai gěi nǐ hǎochī de…
Good child, Granny will give you nice things to eat...
- Gretel 不！谁也不能吃我哥哥了！
Bù! Shéi yě bù néng chī wǒ gēge le!
No! Nobody can eat my brother now!
- Narrator 格莱特不看，也不听。巫婆死在烤炉里了。
Géláitè bú kàn, yě bù tīng. Wūpó sǐ zài kǎolú li le.
Gretel did not look, and did not listen. The witch died in the oven.
- Gretel 上帝，谢谢您！您帮了我！
Shàngdì, xièxie nín! Nín bāng le wǒ!
Thank you, God! You helped me!
- Gretel 我没有哭！真的！
Wǒ méiyǒu kū! Zhēn de!
I didn't cry! Really!
- Gretel 笼子！现在，我去找哥哥！
Lóngzi! Xiànzài, wǒ qù zhǎo gēge!
The cage! Now I'm going to get Brother!
- Narrator 格莱特很快跑去了笼子那边。
Géláitè hěn kuài pǎo qù le lóngzi nàbiān.
Gretel ran quickly over to the cage.
- Gretel 哥哥！我来了！
Gēge! Wǒ lái le!
Brother! I'm coming!
