The Witch's Chests
巫婆的箱子
Hansel lifts the lid of the witch's first big chest. Then, with the house behind them, the children must find the way home on their own.

In the witch's house, Hansel opened one of the big chests.
- Hansel 格莱特，你来看！里边都是白的！
Géláitè, nǐ lái kàn! Lǐbian dōu shì bái de!
Gretel, come and look! It's all white inside!
- Gretel 白的？哥哥，是白石头吗？
Bái de? Gēge, shì bái shítou ma?
White? Are they white pebbles?

They're not pebbles! They're pearls! So many pearls!
- Gretel 真漂亮！这个箱子里，还有宝石！
Zhēn piàoliang! Zhège xiāngzi li, hái yǒu bǎoshí!
They're beautiful! And there are jewels in this chest!
- Hansel 珍珠和宝石！这些比白石头好！
Zhēnzhū hé bǎoshí! Zhèxiē bǐ bái shítou hǎo!
Pearls and jewels! These are better than white pebbles!
- Hansel 一，二，三……都到我衣服里来！
Yī, èr, sān… dōu dào wǒ yīfu li lái!
One, two, three... into my coat, all of you!
- Gretel 我也要！我的衣服里，也要有珍珠！
Wǒ yě yào! Wǒ de yīfu li, yě yào yǒu zhēnzhū!
Me too! My apron needs pearls as well!
- Hansel 好！这个箱子是你的，那个箱子是我的！
Hǎo! Zhège xiāngzi shì nǐ de, nàge xiāngzi shì wǒ de!
All right! This chest is yours, and that one's mine!
- Narrator 两个孩子的衣服里，都是珍珠和宝石了。
Liǎng gè háizi de yīfu li, dōu shì zhēnzhū hé bǎoshí le.
Soon Hansel's coat and Gretel's apron were full of pearls and jewels.
- Gretel 哥哥，这么多珍珠，能买多少面包？
Gēge, zhème duō zhēnzhū, néng mǎi duōshao miànbāo?
Brother, how much bread could all these pearls buy?
- Hansel 很多很多！现在，我可以胖了！
Hěn duō hěn duō! Xiànzài, wǒ kěyǐ pàng le!
Lots and lots! Now I can get fat!
- Gretel 胖哥哥？我想看看！
Pàng gēge? Wǒ xiǎng kànkan!
A fat brother? I'd love to see that!
- Hansel 走吧，格莱特！我们去森林外边，去找回家的路！
Zǒu ba, Géláitè! Wǒmen qù sēnlín wàibian, qù zhǎo huí jiā de lù!
Come on, Gretel! Let's get out of the forest and find the way home!
- Gretel 回家的路……哥哥，你知道在哪儿吗？
Huí jiā de lù… gēge, nǐ zhīdào zài nǎr ma?
The way home... Brother, do you know where it is?
- Hansel 我也不知道，我们会找到的。
Wǒ yě bù zhīdào, wǒmen huì zhǎo dào de.
I don't know either, but we'll find it.
- Narrator 他们在森林里走了两个小时。
Tāmen zài sēnlín li zǒu le liǎng gè xiǎoshí.
They walked through the forest for two hours.
- Hansel 格莱特，你看前边！都是水！
Géláitè, nǐ kàn qiánbian! Dōu shì shuǐ!
Gretel, look ahead! It's all water!
- Gretel 这里的水好大！
Zhèlǐ de shuǐ hǎo dà!
The water here is so big!
- Hansel 没有路，也没有桥。我们去不了那边！
Méiyǒu lù, yě méiyǒu qiáo. Wǒmen qù bu liǎo nàbiān!
No path, and no bridge. We can't get across!
- Gretel 这里也没有船。
Zhèlǐ yě méiyǒu chuán.
There's no boat here either.
- Hansel 格莱特，我们回不了家了。
Géláitè, wǒmen huí bu liǎo jiā le.
Gretel, we can't get home.
- Gretel 哥哥，你看！水上有一只白鸭子！
Gēge, nǐ kàn! Shuǐ shang yǒu yì zhī bái yāzi!
Brother, look! There's a white duck on the water!
- Hansel 鸭子能帮我们什么？
Yāzi néng bāng wǒmen shénme?
How can a duck help us?
- Gretel 我去问问，它会帮我们的。
Wǒ qù wènwen, tā huì bāng wǒmen de.
I'll go and ask. She'll help us.
- Hansel 格莱特，它会说话吗？
Géláitè, tā huì shuōhuà ma?
Gretel, can it talk?
- Gretel 不会。它会听。
Bú huì. Tā huì tīng.
No. But it can listen.
- Narrator 格莱特来到了水边。
Géláitè láidào le shuǐ biān.
Gretel went right up to the water's edge.
- Gretel 白鸭子，请你听我说！我们要回家！
Bái yāzi, qǐng nǐ tīng wǒ shuō! Wǒmen yào huí jiā!
White duck, please listen to me! We want to go home!
