- Mrs. Bennet
Bīnlì xiānsheng! Wǒmen lái kàn Jiǎn le! Wǒ qīn'ài de Jiǎn zěnmeyàng le?
Mr. Bingley! We've come to see Jane! How is my darling Jane?
Bèinèitè tàitai, bié dānxīn. Jiǎn xiǎojie hái yǒudiǎnr fāshāo, búguò bǐ zuótiān hǎo duō le.
Don't worry, Mrs. Bennet. Jane still has a little fever, but she's much better than yesterday.
- Mrs. Bennet
Hǎo duō le? Bù, bù, tā bìng de tài zhòng le, bù néng zuò mǎchē huí jiā! Tā yào zài zhèr duō zhù jǐ tiān.
Much better? Oh no, no, she's far too ill to go home in the carriage! She'll have to stay here a few more days.
- Mr. Bingley
Dāngrán! Jiǎn xiǎojie xiǎng zhù duō jiǔ, jiù zhù duō jiǔ.
Of course! She can stay as long as she likes.
- Mrs. Bennet
Bīnlì xiānsheng, nǐ zhēn hǎo! Nǐ bú huì mǎshàng huí Lúndūn ba? Wǒmen zhèr gēn Lúndūn yíyàng hǎo!
Mr. Bingley, you're so kind! You won't rush back to London, will you? It's every bit as nice here as in London!
Zài zhè zhǒng dìfang, rènshi de rén bù duō, měi tiān dōu chàbuduō.
In a place like this, one knows very few people, and every day is much the same.
- Mrs. Bennet
Bù duō? Wǒmen chángcháng gēn èrshísì jiā rén yìqǐ chīfàn ne!
Very few? We dine with twenty-four families, I'll have you know!
- Elizabeth Bennet
Māma…
Mama…
- Lydia Bennet
Bīnlì xiānsheng, nǐ shuō guo yào kāi wǔhuì de! Nǐ bù néng wàng le!
Mr. Bingley, you promised to give a ball! You mustn't forget!
Wǒ méi wàng! Děng nǐ jiějie hǎo le, rìzi nǐ lái xuǎn!
I haven't forgotten! Once your sister is well, you can name the day!
- Lydia Bennet
Tài hǎowán le! Dào shíhou, nǐ hái yào yāoqǐng suǒyǒu de jūnguān!
What fun! And you have to invite all the officers!
- Miss Bingley
Èrshísì jiā rén! Dáxī xiānsheng, nín tīngjiàn le ma?
Twenty-four families! Mr. Darcy, did you hear that?
If it weren't for Miss Elizabeth's family… I'd be in real danger.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Dáxī xiānsheng yòu zài kàn wǒ. Tā kàn wǒ, zhǐshì wèile zhǎo quēdiǎn.
Mr. Darcy is looking at me again. He only looks at me to find faults.
- Narrator
Nà tiān wǎnshang, dàjiā zuò zài huǒ biān.
That evening, everyone sat by the fire.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Dáxī xiānsheng, nín yídìng méiyǒu quēdiǎn ba?
Mr. Darcy, I suppose you have no faults at all?
Xūróng shì quēdiǎn, wǒ méiyǒu. Jiāo'ào bù yíyàng: cōngming de rén, huì guǎn hǎo zìjǐ de jiāo'ào.
Vanity is a fault, and I have none. Pride is different: a clever man keeps his pride under control.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Bīnlì xiǎojie, nǐ tīngjiàn le ma? Dáxī xiānsheng méiyǒu quēdiǎn.
Miss Bingley, did you hear? Mr. Darcy has no faults.
Bù, wǒ yǒu. Wǒ de píqi bù hǎo. Biérén zuò cuò le shì, wǒ hěn nán yuánliàng.
No, I have faults. My temper is bad. When people do wrong, I find it very hard to forgive.
Once I lose my good opinion of someone, it is lost forever.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Zhè zhēn shì yí gè dà quēdiǎn! Búguò, nín xuǎn de hěn hǎo. Zhège quēdiǎn, wǒ méi bànfǎ xiào nín.
That is a real fault! But you've chosen it well. I can't laugh at you for that one.
Nín yě yǒu quēdiǎn, Yīlìshābái xiǎojie: nín duì rén yǒu piānjiàn, hái gùyì wùhuì tāmen.
You have a fault too, Miss Elizabeth: you're prejudiced, and you misunderstand people on purpose.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Piānjiàn? Bù, Dáxī xiānsheng. Wǒ kàn rén hěn zhǔn, dì yī yǎn jiù néng kàn qīngchu.
Prejudiced? Oh no, Mr. Darcy. I'm a good judge of people. I can tell at first sight.
- Mr. Darcy
Wēixiǎn… cóng míngtiān qǐ, wǒ yào shǎo gēn tā shuōhuà.
Dangerous… From tomorrow on, I must talk to her less.
Zuìhòu yì tiān, Dáxī xiānsheng yìzhí zài kàn shū. Xīngqītiān, Jiǎn hé Yīlìshābái huí jiā le.
On the last day, Mr. Darcy kept his nose in his book. On Sunday, Jane and Elizabeth went home.
Tàitai, jīntiān de wǎnfàn yào zuò de hǎo yìdiǎnr. Wǒmen jiā yào lái yí wèi kèrén.
My dear, I hope you've ordered a good dinner today. We're expecting a guest.
- Mrs. Bennet
Kèrén? Shì Bīnlì xiānsheng! Yídìng shì Bīnlì xiānsheng!
A guest? It's Mr. Bingley! It must be Mr. Bingley!
Bú shì. Zhège rén, wǒ yí cì yě méi jiàn guo. Yǐhòu, tā huì jìchéng wǒmen jiā de yíqiè.
No. I've never laid eyes on him. But one day, he will inherit everything we have.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Bàba, tā shì shéi?
Papa, who is he?
Tā jiào Kēlínsī. Wǒ sǐ le yǐhòu, tā kěyǐ ràng nǐmen mǎshàng líkāi zhè zuò fángzi.
His name is Collins. When I die, he can turn you all out of this house at once.
What changed in the story?
- Why does Mrs. Bennet say Jane can't go home yet?
“她病得太重了,不能坐马车回家!”
- What does Lydia remind Mr. Bingley about?
“你说过要开舞会的!”
- Why does Elizabeth think Mr. Darcy keeps looking at her?
“他看我,只是为了找缺点。”
- What fault does Mr. Darcy admit to?
“我的脾气不好。”……“我对一个人的好印象没有了,就永远没有了。”
- Why is the coming guest bad news for the Bennet girls?
“以后,他会继承我们家的一切。”……“他可以让你们马上离开这座房子。”
