Nǐ de mèimeimen huì huà huà ma? Yǒu jiātíng jiàoshī ma? Dōu qù cānjiā wǔhuì ma? Zuì xiǎo de duō dà?
Do your sisters draw? Do you have a governess? Do they all go to balls already? How old is the youngest?
- Elizabeth Bennet 都不会画画。没有家庭教师。都去。最小的还不到十六岁。
Dōu bú huì huà huà. Méiyǒu jiātíng jiàoshī. Dōu qù. Zuì xiǎo de hái bú dào shíliù suì.
None of us draws. We have no governess. Yes, they all go. The youngest isn't sixteen yet.
- Lady Catherine de Bourgh 什么？姐姐们还没结婚，妹妹们就去舞会？
Shénme? Jiějiemen hái méi jiéhūn, mèimeimen jiù qù wǔhuì?
What? The younger ones going to balls before the elder ones are married?
- Elizabeth Bennet 姐姐们不结婚，妹妹们就要一直在家里等吗？这不公平。
Jiějiemen bù jiéhūn, mèimeimen jiù yào yìzhí zài jiā li děng ma? Zhè bù gōngpíng.
If the elder ones don't marry, must the younger ones wait at home forever? That isn't fair.
- Lady Catherine de Bourgh 你这么年轻，就这么有主意！你多大了？

So young, and so very sure of your opinions! How old are you?
- Elizabeth Bennet 我下面还有三个妹妹，都长大了。夫人还要我说我多大吗？

I have three younger sisters, all grown up. Can you really expect me to tell my age, ma'am?

You can't be more than twenty. What is there to hide?
- Elizabeth Bennet 我还不到二十一岁，夫人。

I am not yet twenty-one, ma'am.

No one had ever dared to answer Lady Catherine like that.

Shortly before Easter, Mr. Darcy came to visit his aunt, and brought his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam.

Elizabeth, they've come for you. Mr. Darcy would never call the very next day for my sake.
- Colonel Fitzwilliam 贝内特小姐，你好！说实话，我姑妈家太安静了。

How do you do, Miss Bennet! To be honest, my aunt's house is far too quiet.

Very well. My elder sister has been in London these three months. Have you never seen her there?

On Easter evening, they all went to Lady Catherine's again.

Fitzwilliam! What are you two talking about? Speak up!
- Colonel Fitzwilliam 我们在说音乐，姑妈。

We're talking about music, Aunt.
- Lady Catherine de Bourgh 音乐！我最懂音乐了。我要是学过弹琴，一定是最好的！
Yīnyuè! Wǒ zuì dǒng yīnyuè le. Wǒ yàoshi xué guo tán qín, yídìng shì zuì hǎo de!
Music! No one understands music as I do. If I had ever learned to play, I would have been the best of all!
- Elizabeth Bennet 达西先生，您站在琴边看着我，是想让我害怕吗？别人越想让我怕，我越不怕。
Dáxī xiānsheng, nín zhàn zài qín biān kàn zhe wǒ, shì xiǎng ràng wǒ hàipà ma? Biérén yuè xiǎng ràng wǒ pà, wǒ yuè bú pà.
Mr. Darcy, are you standing by the piano watching me to frighten me? The more people try to frighten me, the braver I get.

Nín bú huì zhēn zhème xiǎng. Nín jiù shì xǐhuan shuō yìxiē zìjǐ dōu bú xìn de huà.
You can't really think so. You simply enjoy saying things you don't believe yourself.

Colonel, the first time I ever saw him was at a ball. He danced only four dances, and plenty of young ladies had to sit out!
- Mr. Darcy 那时候，除了我的朋友，我谁也不认识。我不太会跟不认识的人说话。

I knew no one there beyond my own party. I'm not good at talking to people I don't know.

I don't play very well either, because I never practice. That's my own fault.

You're quite right. Neither of us performs for strangers.

Bèinèitè xiǎojie hěn cōngming, kěshì bìxū duō liànxí. Dāngrán, wǒ nǚ'ér yàoshi xué guo, yídìng bǐ tā hǎo!
Miss Bennet is clever, but she must practice more. Of course, if my daughter had ever learned, she would play far better!
- Elizabeth Bennet 他一点儿也不爱凯瑟琳夫人的女儿……那他为什么总是看着我？
