The Colonel's Secret
上校的秘密
Mr. Darcy pays a strange, silent call. Then, on a walk in the park, Colonel Fitzwilliam lets slip a secret without knowing what he's telling.

Will he ever come back to the big house?

Kēlínsī tàitai jià de lí jiā zhème jìn, zhēn búcuò.
How fortunate that Mrs. Collins has married so close to her family.
- Elizabeth Bennet 近？差不多五十英里呢！
Jìn? Chàbuduō wǔshí yīnglǐ ne!
Close? It's nearly fifty miles!
- Mr. Darcy 路好走，半天就到了。很近。
Lù hǎo zǒu, bàntiān jiù dào le. Hěn jìn.
On a good road, it's half a day. That's close.
- Elizabeth Bennet 对有钱人来说很近。对我们来说，很远。
Duì yǒuqián rén lái shuō hěn jìn. Duì wǒmen lái shuō, hěn yuǎn.
Close for the rich, perhaps. For us, it's very far.
- Mr. Darcy 您也不会一直住在家附近吧。
Nín yě bú huì yìzhí zhù zài jiā fùjìn ba.
Surely you won't always live so near your home.

He called on you alone? Elizabeth, he must be in love with you!

- Colonel Fitzwilliam 贝内特小姐，这么巧！我跟你一起走走吧。
Bèinèitè xiǎojie, zhème qiǎo! Wǒ gēn nǐ yìqǐ zǒuzou ba.
Miss Bennet, what luck! May I walk with you?
- Elizabeth Bennet 上校，达西先生总是想做什么，就做什么，对不对？
Shàngxiào, Dáxī xiānsheng zǒngshì xiǎng zuò shénme, jiù zuò shénme, duì bu duì?
Colonel, Mr. Darcy always does exactly as he likes, doesn't he?
- Colonel Fitzwilliam 说实话，他有钱，当然可以。我是家里的小儿子，就不行了。
Shuō shíhuà, tā yǒuqián, dāngrán kěyǐ. Wǒ shì jiā li de xiǎo érzi, jiù bù xíng le.
To be honest, he's rich, so of course he can. I'm a younger son, so I can't.
- Colonel Fitzwilliam 小儿子不能想娶谁就娶谁。我们得娶有钱的小姐。
Xiǎo érzi bù néng xiǎng qǔ shéi jiù qǔ shéi. Wǒmen děi qǔ yǒuqián de xiǎojie.
Younger sons can't marry whoever they please. We have to marry ladies with money.
- Elizabeth Bennet 他是在告诉我……我没有钱？
Tā shì zài gàosu wǒ… wǒ méiyǒu qián?
Is he telling me… that I have no money?
- Elizabeth Bennet 那么请问，上校，一个小儿子要多少钱？五万镑？
Nàme qǐngwèn, shàngxiào, yí gè xiǎo érzi yào duōshao qián? Wǔwàn bàng?
Then tell me, Colonel, what does a younger son cost? Fifty thousand pounds?
- Colonel Fitzwilliam 哈哈！你真会开玩笑。
Hāhā! Nǐ zhēn huì kāi wánxiào.
Ha! You do like to joke.
- Elizabeth Bennet 达西先生对他的朋友宾利先生，照顾得真好啊。
Dáxī xiānsheng duì tā de péngyou Bīnlì xiānsheng, zhàogù de zhēn hǎo a.
And Mr. Darcy takes such good care of his friend Mr. Bingley.
- Colonel Fitzwilliam 是啊！说实话，他刚帮了一个朋友，没让他娶一位不该娶的小姐。
Shì a! Shuō shíhuà, tā gāng bāng le yí gè péngyou, méi ràng tā qǔ yí wèi bù gāi qǔ de xiǎojie.
He does! To tell the truth, he's just saved a friend from marrying a lady he shouldn't have.
- Colonel Fitzwilliam 这是秘密，你别告诉别人。他说，那门婚事问题很多。我想，那个朋友就是宾利吧。
Zhè shì mìmì, nǐ bié gàosu biérén. Tā shuō, nà mén hūnshì wèntí hěn duō. Wǒ xiǎng, nàge péngyou jiù shì Bīnlì ba.
It's a secret, so don't repeat it. He said there were strong objections to the match. I believe the friend was Bingley.
- Elizabeth Bennet 宾利先生……那位小姐，就是简！简有什么问题？他是在说我们家！
Bīnlì xiānsheng… nà wèi xiǎojie, jiù shì Jiǎn! Jiǎn yǒu shénme wèntí? Tā shì zài shuō wǒmen jiā!
Mr. Bingley… then the lady is Jane! What could be wrong with Jane? He means our family!
- Charlotte Lucas 伊丽莎白，你哭了？头疼吗？那今天晚上你别去凯瑟琳夫人家了，在家休息吧。
Yīlìshābái, nǐ kū le? Tóuténg ma? Nà jīntiān wǎnshang nǐ bié qù Kǎisèlín fūrén jiā le, zài jiā xiūxi ba.
Elizabeth, have you been crying? Is it your head? Then don't come to Lady Catherine's tonight. Stay home and rest.
- Elizabeth Bennet 简的信……每一封都不快乐。都是那个骄傲的人做的！还好，他后天就走了。
Jiǎn de xìn… měi yì fēng dōu bú kuàilè. Dōu shì nàge jiāo'ào de rén zuò de! Hái hǎo, tā hòutiān jiù zǒu le.
Jane's letters… not one of them is happy. And that proud man did it all! At least he leaves the day after tomorrow.
- Elizabeth Bennet 有人来了……是菲茨上校吗？……不，是达西先生！
Yǒu rén lái le… shì Fēicí shàngxiào ma? …Bù, shì Dáxī xiānsheng!
Someone's here… Is it Colonel Fitzwilliam?… No, it's Mr. Darcy!
