Yesterday Mr. Darcy saw Mr. Wickham and didn't say a single word… Why? I'd love to know.

Yīlìshābái xiǎojie, Dáxī xiānsheng zài zhèr zhù le duō jiǔ le?
Miss Elizabeth, how long has Mr. Darcy been staying here?
- Elizabeth Bennet
Yí gè duō yuè le. Tā tài jiāo'ào le, zhèr de rén dōu bù xǐhuan tā.
Over a month. He's far too proud. Nobody here likes him.
Wǒ cóngxiǎo jiù rènshi tā. Wǒ shì zài Péngbólì zhǎngdà de.
I've known him since we were boys. I grew up at Pemberley.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Zhēn de? Nà zuótiān zài jiē shang…
Really? So yesterday in the street…
Nǐ yě kànjiàn le ba? Yí gè liǎn bái le, yí gè liǎn hóng le. Wǒ bù xiǎng shuō tā de huàihuà, kěshì…
You saw it too, didn't you? One went white, the other red. I'd rather not speak ill of him, but…
Lǎo Dáxī xiānsheng shì wǒ de jiàofù, tā duì wǒ xiàng duì érzi yíyàng hǎo.
Old Mr. Darcy was my godfather. He was as good to me as to a son.
Tā dāying guo wǒ, yǐhòu ràng wǒ zài yí gè hěn hǎo de jiàotáng dāng mùshi.
He promised that one day I would be the clergyman of a very good parish.
Kěshì tā sǐ le yǐhòu, Dáxī xiānsheng bǎ nàge jiàotáng gěi le biérén.
But after he died, Mr. Darcy gave that parish to someone else.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Wèishénme? Tā zěnme néng zhèyàng!
Why? How could he!
Tā bàba tài xǐhuan wǒ le, tā bù gāoxìng. Tā zhège rén, tài àomàn le.
His father loved me too much, and he couldn't bear it. He's simply too arrogant.
Tā yì nián yǒu yíwàn bàng, hái piàn le wǒ. Xiànzài wǒ hěn qióng, zhǐhǎo qù dāng jūnguān.
He has ten thousand a year, and still he cheated me. Now I'm poor, so I've had to become an officer.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Zhè tài bù gōngpíng le! Dàjiā dōu yīnggāi zhīdào zhè jiàn shì!
That's so unfair! Everyone ought to know about this!
Bù. Wèile tā bàba, wǒ yǒngyuǎn bú huì shuō tā de huàihuà.
No. For his father's sake, I will never speak ill of him.
Yīnwèi yǒu Kǎisèlín fūrén, wǒ cónglái bú yòng wèi qián dānxīn!
Thanks to Lady Catherine, I never have to worry about money!
Kǎisèlín fūrén? Nǐ zhīdào ma? Tā shì Dáxī xiānsheng de yímā.
Lady Catherine? Did you know? She's Mr. Darcy's aunt.
Dàjiā dōu shuō, Dáxī xiānsheng yǐhòu huì qǔ tā de nǚ'ér.
Everyone says Mr. Darcy will marry her daughter one day.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Nà Bīnlì xiǎojie jiù méiyǒu xīwàng le. Hāhā!
Then poor Miss Bingley hasn't a hope. Ha ha!
- Elizabeth Bennet
Wǒ de dì yī yìnxiàng shì duì de. Dáxī xiānsheng, jiù shì yí gè àomàn de rén!
My first impression was right. Mr. Darcy is an arrogant man, and that's that!
- Narrator
Dì èr tiān zǎoshang, Yīlìshābái gēn Jiǎn shuō le zhège gùshi.
The next morning, Elizabeth told Jane the whole story.
- Jane Bennet
Tāmen liǎng gè rén dōu shì hǎorén… Yěxǔ zhè lǐmiàn yǒu wùhuì, yǒu rén piàn le tāmen.
They're both good men… Perhaps there's been a misunderstanding, and someone has deceived them.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Nà piàn tāmen de rén ne? Nǐ yě yào shuō tā shì hǎorén ma?
And whoever deceived them? Are you going to call him a good man too?
- Jane Bennet
Nǐ xiào wǒ ba. Kěshì wǒ háishi bù xiāngxìn Dáxī xiānsheng shì huàirén.
Laugh at me if you like. But I still can't believe Mr. Darcy is a bad man.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Wēikèmǔ xiānsheng nàme shuài, nàme yǒu lǐmào, huì piàn rén ma? Jiǎn, nǐ jiù shì tài shànliáng le.
Mr. Wickham is so handsome and so well-mannered. Would a man like that lie? Jane, you're simply too kind.
Dàjiā zǎoshang hǎo! Wǒ dāying guo de wǔhuì, jiù zài xià xīngqī'èr! Wǒ shì lái yāoqǐng nǐmen de!
Good morning, everyone! The ball I promised is next Tuesday, and I've come to invite you all!
- Jane Bennet
Bīnlì xiānsheng, xièxie nín! Wǒmen yídìng qù.
Thank you, Mr. Bingley! We'll certainly come.
- Elizabeth Bennet
Kēlínsī xiānsheng, nín yě qù tiàowǔ ma?
Mr. Collins, will you be dancing too?
Dāngrán! Mùshi yě kěyǐ tiàowǔ. Yīlìshābái biǎomèi, wǔhuì yì kāishǐ, qǐng nǐ xiān gēn wǒ tiào liǎng cì!
Certainly! A clergyman may dance. Cousin Elizabeth, I beg the first two dances with you!
- Elizabeth Bennet
Tā xuǎn de tàitai shì wǒ? …Méi guānxi. Wǔhuì shang, wǒ zhǐ xiǎng gēn Wēikèmǔ xiānsheng tiàowǔ!
He's chosen me for his wife?… Never mind. At the ball, Mr. Wickham is the only one I want to dance with!
