A poor miller's son inherits nothing but a cat. But this cat can talk, has big plans, and needs a pair of boots right away.

- Narrator 很久很久以前，一个老磨坊主去世了。他留下了三个儿子。
Hěn jiǔ hěn jiǔ yǐqián, yí gè lǎo mòfángzhǔ qùshì le. Tā liúxià le sān gè érzi.
Long, long ago, an old miller died. He left behind three sons.
- The Eldest Brother 爸爸的磨坊，给我。爸爸的驴，给二弟。
Bàba de mòfáng, gěi wǒ. Bàba de lǘ, gěi èrdì.
Father's mill goes to me. Father's donkey goes to our middle brother.
- The Miller's Son 那我呢？大哥，我有什么？
Nà wǒ ne? Dàgē, wǒ yǒu shénme?
What about me, brother? What do I get?
- The Eldest Brother 你？你有那只猫啊！哈哈哈！
Nǐ? Nǐ yǒu nà zhī māo a! Hāhāhā!
You? You get the cat! Ha ha ha!
- The Miller's Son 大哥和二哥有磨坊，有驴，可以一起生活。我只有一只猫。
Dàgē hé èrgē yǒu mòfáng, yǒu lǘ, kěyǐ yìqǐ shēnghuó. Wǒ zhǐ yǒu yì zhī māo.
My brothers have a mill and a donkey, so they can make a living together. All I have is a cat.
- The Miller's Son 吃了这只猫，再用猫毛做个帽子……然后呢？我还是没饭吃。
Chī le zhè zhī māo, zài yòng māo máo zuò gè màozi… ránhòu ne? Wǒ háishi méi fàn chī.
I could eat the cat and make a hat out of its fur… and then what? I'd still have nothing to eat.
- Puss 吃我？做帽子？主人，不要啊！
Chī wǒ? Zuò màozi? Zhǔrén, bú yào a!
Eat me? Turn me into a hat? Master, please don't!
- The Miller's Son 啊！你……你会说话？
Ā! Nǐ… nǐ huì shuōhuà?
Ah! You… you can talk?
- Puss 我会的东西多着呢！您给我一双靴子，再给我一个口袋。
Wǒ huì de dōngxi duō zhe ne! Nín gěi wǒ yì shuāng xuēzi, zài gěi wǒ yí gè kǒudai.
Oh, I can do all sorts of things! Get me a pair of boots and a bag.
- Puss 然后您就会知道，猫比驴有用多了！
Ránhòu nín jiù huì zhīdào, māo bǐ lǘ yǒuyòng duō le!
Then you'll see that a cat is far more useful than a donkey!

Xuēzi? Māo wèishénme yào chuān xuēzi?
Boots? Why would a cat need boots?
- Puss 山上的路不好走呀。还有，穿上靴子，我会更好看！
Shān shang de lù bù hǎo zǒu ya. Háiyǒu, chuān shang xuēzi, wǒ huì gèng hǎokàn!
The paths up in the hills are rough. Besides, I'll look even more handsome in boots!
- The Miller's Son 这只猫抓老鼠的时候，会躺在面粉里装死。它真的很聪明……

All right! These few coins are all I have left, and they'll all go on your boots!
- Narrator 第二天，猫穿上了一双红靴子，背上了口袋。
Dì èr tiān, māo chuān shang le yì shuāng hóng xuēzi, bēi shang le kǒudai.
The next day, the cat pulled on a pair of red boots and slung the bag over his shoulder.
- Puss 看看水里的我！多好看的靴子啊！
Kànkan shuǐ lǐ de wǒ! Duō hǎokàn de xuēzi a!
Look at me in the puddle! What gorgeous boots!
- The Miller's Son 好好好，你最好看。小猫，你要去哪儿？
Hǎo hǎo hǎo, nǐ zuì hǎokàn. Xiǎo māo, nǐ yào qù nǎr?
Yes, yes, you're the handsomest of all. Where are you off to, kitty?
- Puss 小猫？请叫我猫先生！
Xiǎo māo? Qǐng jiào wǒ Māo xiānsheng!
Kitty? Please call me Mister Cat!
- Narrator 猫先生来到山上，在口袋里放了一些青菜。然后，他躺在草里，一动也不动。
Māo xiānsheng lái dào shān shang, zài kǒudai lǐ fàng le yìxiē qīngcài. Ránhòu, tā tǎng zài cǎo lǐ, yí dòng yě bú dòng.
Mister Cat went up into the hills and put some fresh greens in his bag. Then he lay down in the grass and didn't move a whisker.
- Puss 来吧，小兔子……口袋里有好吃的。我是一只死猫，什么也看不见……
Lái ba, xiǎo tùzi… kǒudai lǐ yǒu hǎochī de. Wǒ shì yì zhī sǐ māo, shénme yě kàn bu jiàn…
Come on, little rabbit… there's something tasty in the bag. I'm just a dead cat. I can't see a thing…
- Narrator 一只小兔子跳进了口袋。猫先生马上拉紧了口袋。
Yì zhī xiǎo tùzi tiào jìn le kǒudai. Māo xiānsheng mǎshàng lā jǐn le kǒudai.
A young rabbit hopped into the bag, and Mister Cat pulled it shut at once.
- Puss 抓到了！走，去王宫！这是给国王的礼物！
Zhuā dào le! Zǒu, qù wánggōng! Zhè shì gěi guówáng de lǐwù!
Got him! Off to the palace! This is a present for the king!
- Puss 国王您好！这只兔子，是我的主人卡拉巴斯侯爵送给您的！
Guówáng nín hǎo! Zhè zhī tùzi, shì wǒ de zhǔrén Kǎlābāsī hóujué sòng gěi nín de!
Greetings, Your Majesty! This rabbit is a gift for you from my master, the Marquis of Carabas!
- The King 卡拉巴斯侯爵？好大的兔子！今天晚上，我们吃兔子！
Kǎlābāsī hóujué? Hǎo dà de tùzi! Jīntiān wǎnshang, wǒmen chī tùzi!
The Marquis of Carabas? What a big rabbit! Tonight, we're having rabbit!
- The King 穿靴子的小猫，告诉你的主人：我很喜欢他的礼物！
Chuān xuēzi de xiǎo māo, gàosu nǐ de zhǔrén: wǒ hěn xǐhuan tā de lǐwù!
Little cat in boots, tell your master that I like his gift very much!
- Puss 是猫先生，国王。我一定告诉他！
Shì Māo xiānsheng, guówáng. Wǒ yídìng gàosu tā!
That's Mister Cat, Your Majesty. I'll be sure to tell him!
- The Miller's Son 猫先生，你回来了！国王说什么了？
Māo xiānsheng, nǐ huílái le! Guówáng shuō shénme le?
Mister Cat, you're back! What did the king say?
- Puss 国王说：谢谢卡拉巴斯侯爵！
Guówáng shuō: xièxie Kǎlābāsī hóujué!
The king said, "Thank you, Marquis of Carabas!"
- The Miller's Son 卡拉巴斯侯爵？那是谁？
Kǎlābāsī hóujué? Nà shì shéi?
The Marquis of Carabas? Who's that?
- Puss 是您啊，主人！从今天起，您就是卡拉巴斯侯爵。
Shì nín a, zhǔrén! Cóng jīntiān qǐ, nín jiù shì Kǎlābāsī hóujué.
It's you, Master! From today on, you are the Marquis of Carabas.
- The Miller's Son 我？侯爵？要是国王想见我，怎么办？我只有这一件破衣服！
Wǒ? Hóujué? Yàoshi guówáng xiǎng jiàn wǒ, zěnme bàn? Wǒ zhǐ yǒu zhè yí jiàn pò yīfu!
Me? A marquis? What if the king wants to meet me? All I've got are these ragged clothes!
- Puss 破衣服？没关系。很快，您就不用穿它了。
Pò yīfu? Méi guānxi. Hěn kuài, nín jiù bú yòng chuān tā le.
Ragged clothes? Never mind them. Very soon, you won't be wearing them at all.
