Two days after Christmas, a battered hat and a goose lead Holmes to a stolen blue stone hidden where no one would look. Who put it there?

Two days after Christmas, Watson comes to see Holmes.
- Sherlock Holmes 华生，来得好！快来看这顶旧帽子。
Huáshēng, lái de hǎo! Kuài lái kàn zhè dǐng jiù màozi.
Watson, perfect timing! Come look at this old hat.
- Dr. Watson 一顶帽子？你在开玩笑吗？
Yì dǐng màozi? Nǐ zài kāi wánxiào ma?
A hat? Are you joking?
- Sherlock Holmes 不是玩笑。你看它，能看到什么？
Bú shì wánxiào. Nǐ kàn tā, néng kàn dào shénme?
No joke. Look at it. What do you see?
- Dr. Watson 一顶又旧又脏的帽子。就这样。
Yì dǐng yòu jiù yòu zàng de màozi. Jiù zhèyàng.
An old, dirty hat. That's all.
- Sherlock Holmes 我看到很多！它的主人很聪明，因为帽子这么大。
Wǒ kàn dào hěn duō! Tā de zhǔrén hěn cōngming, yīnwèi màozi zhème dà.
I see plenty! Its owner is clever, because the hat is so big.
- Dr. Watson 头大，就一定聪明吗？
Tóu dà, jiù yídìng cōngming ma?
A big head means a clever one?
- Sherlock Holmes 他以前很有钱，现在没有钱了。这顶帽子三年前很贵。
Tā yǐqián hěn yǒu qián, xiànzài méiyǒu qián le. Zhè dǐng màozi sān nián qián hěn guì.
He used to be rich, but now he isn't. This hat was expensive three years ago.
- Dr. Watson 是吗？那他的太太呢？
Shì ma? Nà tā de tàitai ne?
Really? And his wife?
- Sherlock Holmes 她不太爱他了，因为没有人帮他洗帽子。
Tā bú tài ài tā le, yīnwèi méiyǒu rén bāng tā xǐ màozi.
She doesn't love him much anymore, because nobody washes his hat for him.
- Dr. Watson 哈哈！太神了，我不信！
Hāhā! Tài shén le, wǒ bú xìn!
Ha! That's too much. I don't believe it!
- Peterson 福尔摩斯先生！福尔摩斯先生！
Fú'ěrmósī xiānsheng! Fú'ěrmósī xiānsheng!
Mr. Holmes! Mr. Holmes!
- Sherlock Holmes 是彼得森！请进。怎么了？
Shì Bǐdésēn! Qǐng jìn. Zěnme le?
It's Peterson! Come in. What's wrong?
- Peterson 圣诞节早上，我在街上看到一个人。他手里有一只鹅。
Shèngdànjié zǎoshang, wǒ zài jiē shang kàn dào yí gè rén. Tā shǒulǐ yǒu yì zhī é.
On Christmas morning, I saw a man in the street. He had a goose in his hand.
- Peterson 几个坏人走过来，他很怕，一跑，帽子和鹅都丢了。
Jǐ gè huàirén zǒu guòlái, tā hěn pà, yì pǎo, màozi hé é dōu diū le.
Some rough men came up. He got scared and ran, and lost his hat and his goose.
- Peterson 我把鹅带回家。我太太打开它，你们看！
Wǒ bǎ é dài huíjiā. Wǒ tàitai dǎkāi tā, nǐmen kàn!
I took the goose home. My wife opened it, and look at this!
- Dr. Watson 天哪！一块蓝色的石头！
Tiān nǎ! Yí kuài lánsè de shítou!
Good heavens! A blue stone!
- Sherlock Holmes 不是普通石头，华生。这是一块蓝宝石！
Bú shì pǔtōng shítou, Huáshēng. Zhè shì yí kuài lán bǎoshí!
It's no ordinary stone, Watson. It's a blue gem!
- Peterson 报纸上说，伯爵夫人的蓝宝石不见了。谁找到它，谁得一千镑！
Bàozhǐ shàng shuō, bójué fūrén de lán bǎoshí bú jiàn le. Shuí zhǎodào tā, shuí dé yì qiān bàng!
The paper says the Countess's blue gem is missing. Whoever finds it gets a thousand pounds!
- Dr. Watson 一千镑！那可以买很多房子！
Yì qiān bàng! Nà kěyǐ mǎi hěn duō fángzi!
A thousand pounds! That could buy a lot of houses!
- Sherlock Holmes 它这么小。可是有一个工人因为它，被警察带走了。
Tā zhème xiǎo. Kěshì yǒu yí gè gōngrén yīnwèi tā, bèi jǐngchá dàizǒu le.
It is so small. Yet a workman was taken away by the police because of it.
- Dr. Watson 可是，鹅为什么会吃下宝石？
Kěshì, é wèishénme huì chī xià bǎoshí?
But why would a goose swallow a gem?
- Sherlock Holmes 问得好！鹅不会自己去找宝石。一定是有人放进去的。
Wèn de hǎo! É bú huì zìjǐ qù zhǎo bǎoshí. Yídìng shì yǒurén fàng jìnqù de.
Good question! A goose doesn't go looking for gems. Someone put it in.
- Peterson 那个人是小偷吗？是帽子的主人吗？
Nàge rén shì xiǎotōu ma? Shì màozi de zhǔrén ma?
Is that person the thief? Is it the hat's owner?
- Sherlock Holmes 我们还不知道。彼得森，鹅的脚上有东西吗？
Wǒmen hái bù zhīdao. Bǐdésēn, é de jiǎo shàng yǒu dōngxi ma?
We don't know yet. Peterson, was there anything on the goose's leg?
- Peterson 有一张小卡片：“给贝克太太”。
Yǒu yì zhāng xiǎo kǎpiàn: “Gěi Bèikè tàitai”.
Yes, a little card: “For Mrs. Baker.”
- Sherlock Holmes 那帽子的主人就是贝克先生。快去报纸上找他！
Nà màozi de zhǔrén jiù shì Bèikè xiānsheng. Kuài qù bàozhǐ shàng zhǎo tā!
Then the hat's owner is Mr. Baker. Quick, call for him in the paper!
- Peterson 好！可是他会来吗？
Hǎo! Kěshì tā huì lái ma?
Right! But will he come?
- Dr. Watson 如果他是小偷，他就不会来了。
Rúguǒ tā shì xiǎotōu, tā jiù bú huì lái le.
If he's the thief, he won't come.
- Sherlock Holmes 那我们就等着看，华生。今天晚上，我要问贝克先生一个问题！
Nà wǒmen jiù děng zhe kàn, Huáshēng. Jīntiān wǎnshang, wǒ yào wèn Bèikè xiānsheng yí gè wèntí!
Then we wait and see, Watson. Tonight I have a question for Mr. Baker!
