A poor porter named Sinbad meets a rich man with the very same name, who tells him how he got his wealth, starting with an island that was not an island.

I'm a porter. I carry heavy things every day, I'm worn out, and I still have no money!
- Sinbad the Porter 有的人住大房子，什么事都不用做。为什么我这么苦？
Yǒu de rén zhù dàfángzi, shénme shì dōu búyòng zuò. Wèishénme wǒ zhème kǔ?
Some people live in big houses and never have to do a thing. Why is my life so hard?
- Sinbad the Sailor 外面是谁在说话？

Who's out there talking?
- Sinbad the Porter 对不起，先生！我只是太累了，没有别的意思。
Duìbùqǐ, xiānsheng! Wǒ zhǐshì tàilèi le, méiyǒu biéde yìsi.
Sorry, sir! I'm just very tired. I didn't mean anything by it.

Nǐ jiào shénme míngzi?
What's your name?
- Sinbad the Porter 我叫辛巴达。大家都叫我挑夫辛巴达。
Wǒ jiào Xīnbādá. Dàjiā dōu jiào wǒ tiāofū Xīnbādá.
I'm Sinbad. Everyone calls me Sinbad the Porter.
- Sinbad the Sailor 哈哈！我也叫辛巴达！快进来坐，喝一杯茶吧。
Hāhā! Wǒ yě jiào Xīnbādá! Kuàijìnlái zuò, hēyìbēi chá ba.
Ha ha! My name is Sinbad too! Come in and sit down, and have a cup of tea.
- Sinbad the Porter 您也叫辛巴达？可是您这么有钱，我这么没钱！
Nín yě jiào Xīnbādá? Kěshì nín zhème yǒuqián, wǒ zhème méi qián!
You're Sinbad too? But you're so rich and I'm so poor!
- Sinbad the Sailor 你觉得我坐在家里，钱就会自己来吗？
Nǐ juéde wǒ zuòzài jiālǐ, qián jiù huì zìjǐ lái ma?
Do you think the money just comes by itself while I sit at home?
- Sinbad the Porter 不是这样吗？
Búshì zhèyàng ma?

- Sinbad the Sailor 不是。我的钱都是从海上来的。我有七个航海的故事。
Búshì. Wǒ de qián dōu shìcóng hǎishàng lái de. Wǒ yǒu qīgè hánghǎi de gùshi.
No. All my money came from the sea. I have seven stories of my voyages.
- Sinbad the Porter 七个？太好了！请您给我讲一个吧！
Qīgè? Tàihǎole! Qǐng nín gěi wǒ jiǎng yígè ba!
Seven? Wonderful! Please tell me one!
- Sinbad the Sailor 好。先讲第一个。那年我很年轻，我想去看看大海那边有什么。
Hǎo. Xiānjiǎng dìyígè. Nànián wǒ hěn niánqīng, wǒ xiǎng qù kànkan dàhǎi nàbiān yǒu shénme.
All right. First, the first one. I was young then, and I wanted to see what was on the other side of the sea.
- Narrator 辛巴达坐上了一条大船。船走了很多天，来到一个漂亮的小岛。
Xīnbādá zuòshàng le yìtiáo dàchuán. Chuán zǒu le hěnduō tiān, láidào yígè piàoliang de xiǎodǎo.
Sinbad boarded a big ship. It sailed for many days and came to a pretty little island.
- Salim 船长说我们可以在岛上吃午饭！我来生火，你去找树枝！
Chuánzhǎng shuō wǒmen kěyǐ zài dǎoshàng chī wǔfàn! Wǒlái shēnghuǒ, nǐ qù zhǎo shùzhī!
The captain says we can have lunch on the island! I'll make the fire, and you go find sticks!
- Sinbad the Sailor 这个岛真漂亮！草是绿的，海是蓝的，天上一朵云也没有。
Zhège dǎozhēn piàoliang! Cǎoshì lǜ de, hǎishì lán de, tiānshàng yìduǒ yún yě méiyǒu.
What a beautiful island! The grass is green, the sea is blue, and there's not one cloud in the sky.
- Salim 辛巴达先生，你不要只是看，快去找一点儿干树枝。
Xīnbādá xiānsheng, nǐ búyào zhǐshì kàn, kuài qù zhǎo yìdiǎnr gàn shùzhī.
Mr. Sinbad, don't just stand there looking. Go find some dry sticks.
- Sinbad the Sailor 萨利姆，你只会做饭，不会自己去找树枝吗？
Sàlìmǔ, nǐ zhǐhuì zuòfàn, búhuì zìjǐ qù zhǎo shùzhī ma?
Salim, you can only cook, and you can't go find sticks yourself?
- Salim 我做的鱼汤是最好吃的！你等一会儿就知道了。
Wǒ zuò de yútāng shì zuì hǎochī de! Nǐ děng yíhuìr jiù zhīdào le.
My fish soup is the tastiest! You'll see in a minute.
- Sinbad the Sailor 好，好，我去，我去。你的鱼汤最好吃。
Hǎo, hǎo, wǒ qù, wǒ qù. Nǐ de yútāng zuì hǎochī.
Fine, fine, I'm going. Your fish soup is the best.
- Salim 火生好了！树枝呢？你怎么还不过来？
Huǒshēng hǎo le! Shùzhī ne? Nǐ zěnme hái bú guòlái?
The fire's ready! Where are the sticks? Why aren't you here yet?
- Sinbad the Sailor 来了来了！哇，好香啊！你的汤在哪儿？
Lái le lái le! Wa, hǎoxiāng a! Nǐ de tāng zài nǎr?
I'm coming! Wow, that smells good! Where's your soup?
- Salim 咦？我觉得地在动。你有没有感觉到？
Yí? Wǒ juéde dìzàidòng. Nǐ yǒuméiyǒu gǎnjué dào?
Huh? I think the ground is moving. Can you feel it?
- Sinbad the Sailor 别开玩笑了，萨利姆。地怎么会动呢？
Bié kāiwánxiào le, Sàlìmǔ. Dì zěnme huìdòng ne?
Stop joking, Salim. How can the ground move?
- Salim 我没有开玩笑！你看，水在我们的脚下动！
Wǒ méiyǒu kāiwánxiào! Nǐ kàn, shuǐzài wǒmen de jiǎoxià dòng!
I'm not joking! Look, the water is moving under our feet!
- Sinbad the Sailor 这是什么？为什么这个岛在往海里走？
Zhèshì shénme? Wèishénme zhège dǎo zài wǎng hǎilǐ zǒu?
What is this? Why is this island moving out to sea?
- Captain 辛巴达！萨利姆！你们快回船上来！
Xīnbādá! Sàlìmǔ! Nǐmen kuàihuí chuánshàng lái!
Sinbad! Salim! Get back on the ship, quickly!
- Sinbad the Sailor 船长！为什么？这里不是很好吗？
Chuánzhǎng! Wèishénme? Zhèlǐ búshì hěn hǎo ma?
Captain! Why? Isn't it lovely here?
- Captain 这不是岛！这是一条大鲸鱼！你们的火把它叫醒了！
Zhè búshì dǎo! Zhèshì yìtiáo dà jīngyú! Nǐmen de huǒbǎ tā jiàoxǐng le!
This is not an island! It's a giant whale! Your fire woke it up!
- Salim 辛巴达，快跑！鲸鱼要回到海里去了！
Xīnbādá, kuài pǎo! Jīngyú yào huídào hǎilǐ qù le!
Sinbad, run! The whale is going back into the sea!
