A Rainy Afternoon

At two in the morning Gatsby's house still blazes with light. Two days later, in pouring rain, he sits in Nick's little house in a white suit and watches the clock.

He's waited five years, and all he wants is to see Daisy once more, at my house.

Thanks, but I'm too busy.
- Narrator 两天以后，下着大雨。三点，盖茨比来了，穿着白西装。

Two days later, it was pouring. At three, Gatsby came over in a white suit.
- Nick Carraway 你下雨天还让人来弄我的草地！这么多花，我家都放不下了！
Nǐ xiàyǔ tiān hái ràng rén lái nòng wǒ de cǎodì! Zhème duō huā, wǒ jiā dōu fàng bu xià le!
You sent a man to do my lawn in the rain! And so many flowers, there's no room for them all!
- Jay Gatsby 都准备好了吗？没问题吧？
Dōu zhǔnbèi hǎo le ma? Méi wèntí ba?
Is everything ready? Is everything all right?
- Nick Carraway 草地很好，你是问这个吗？
Cǎodì hěn hǎo, nǐ shì wèn zhège ma?
The lawn's fine. Is that what you're asking?
- Jay Gatsby 什么草地？……你是说，你家的草地？
Shénme cǎodì?… Nǐ shì shuō, nǐ jiā de cǎodì?
What lawn? ... Oh, you mean your lawn?
- Nick Carraway 他太紧张了，好像一夜没睡。
Tā tài jǐnzhāng le, hǎoxiàng yí yè méi shuì.
He's far too nervous. He looks as if he hasn't slept all night.
- Jay Gatsby 四点了！没有人会来了。我不等了！
Sì diǎn le! Méiyǒu rén huì lái le. Wǒ bù děng le!
It's four o'clock! Nobody's coming. I'm not waiting any longer!
- Nick Carraway 别傻了，现在才三点五十八。
Bié shǎ le, xiànzài cái sān diǎn wǔshíbā.
Don't be silly. It's only three fifty-eight.
- Daisy Buchanan 尼克，你是不是爱上我了？为什么要我一个人来？
Níkè, nǐ shì bu shì ài shàng wǒ le? Wèishénme yào wǒ yí gè rén lái?
Nick, are you in love with me? Why else did I have to come alone?
- Nick Carraway 这是个秘密，快进来吧！
Zhè shì ge mìmì, kuài jìnlai ba!
That's a secret. Come on in!
- Daisy Buchanan 天哪，这么多花！
Tiān na, zhème duō huā!
Good heavens, so many flowers!
- Nick Carraway 盖茨比？你不是在里边吗？怎么站在雨里？
Gàicíbǐ? Nǐ bú shì zài lǐbian ma? Zěnme zhàn zài yǔ li?
Gatsby? Weren't you inside? Why are you standing out in the rain?

Gatsby came in, his face as white as paper.

Shì a… wǒmen yǐqián jiànguo.
Yes... we've met before.

Sorry, your clock! ... It's all right, I caught it.
- Nick Carraway 没关系，那个钟很老了，早就不走了。
Méi guānxi, nàge zhōng hěn lǎo le, zǎo jiù bù zǒu le.
Never mind. It's an old clock. It stopped long ago.
- Daisy Buchanan 我们……很多年没见了。
Wǒmen… hěn duō nián méi jiàn le.
We haven't seen each other in so many years.
- Jay Gatsby 到十一月，就五年了。
Dào shíyīyuè, jiù wǔ nián le.
Five years this November.
- Nick Carraway 我去拿茶来，你们先坐！
Wǒ qù ná chá lái, nǐmen xiān zuò!
I'll go and get the tea. You two sit down!
- Jay Gatsby 老兄，这是个大错，都错了！
Lǎoxiōng, zhè shì ge dà cuò, dōu cuò le!
Old sport, this is a terrible mistake. It's all wrong!
- Nick Carraway 你太紧张了，像个小男孩！黛西一个人坐着呢，快回去。

You're too nervous. You're acting like a little boy! Daisy's sitting in there all alone. Go back.

Nick went outside and stood under a big tree for half an hour.
- Daisy Buchanan 尼克，你回来了？外边还在下雨吗？
Níkè, nǐ huílai le? Wàibian hái zài xiàyǔ ma?
Nick, you're back? Is it still raining out there?
- Nick Carraway 黛西哭过了，可是盖茨比……他像灯一样亮起来了！
Dàixī kūguo le, kěshì Gàicíbǐ… tā xiàng dēng yíyàng liàng qǐlái le!
Daisy has been crying. But Gatsby... he's lit up like a lamp!
- Jay Gatsby 雨停了。老兄，我要你们两个都到我家去，我想让她看看我的房子。
Yǔ tíng le. Lǎoxiōng, wǒ yào nǐmen liǎng gè dōu dào wǒ jiā qù, wǒ xiǎng ràng tā kànkan wǒ de fángzi.
The rain's stopped. Old sport, I want you both to come over to my house. I'd like her to see it.
