That afternoon, Nick and Jordan had tea in the garden of the Plaza Hotel.
- Nick Carraway 乔丹，盖茨比说，你要告诉我一件事。是那个秘密吗？
Qiáodān, Gàicíbǐ shuō, nǐ yào gàosu wǒ yí jiàn shì. Shì nàge mìmì ma?
Jordan, Gatsby says you have something to tell me. Is it that secret?
- Jordan Baker 是黛西的事。一九一七年十月，在路易斯维尔。
Shì Dàixī de shì. Yī jiǔ yī qī nián shíyuè, zài Lùyìsīwéi'ěr.
It's about Daisy. October 1917, in Louisville.
- Narrator 那年，黛西十八岁。她穿着白衣服，开着一辆白色的小车。
Nà nián, Dàixī shíbā suì. Tā chuānzhe bái yīfu, kāizhe yí liàng báisè de xiǎo chē.
That year, Daisy was eighteen. She dressed in white and drove a little white car.
- Jordan Baker 大家都喜欢她。有一天，她的车里坐着一个年轻的军官。
Dàjiā dōu xǐhuan tā. Yǒu yì tiān, tā de chē li zuòzhe yí gè niánqīng de jūnguān.
Everybody loved her. One day, a young officer was sitting in her car.

Tā nàyàng kànzhe Dàixī… nǚháizi dōu xiǎng yǒu rén nàyàng kànzhe zìjǐ.
The way he looked at Daisy... every girl wants someone to look at her like that.

Who was the officer?
- Jordan Baker 杰伊·盖茨比。
Jiéyī Gàicíbǐ.
Jay Gatsby.
- Nick Carraway 盖茨比？我家旁边，天天开晚会的那个盖茨比？

Gatsby? The Gatsby next door to me, who's always throwing parties?

Is there another Gatsby next door to you?
- Jordan Baker 后来，他去了法国。黛西想去送他，可是她家里人不让她去。
Hòulái, tā qù le Fǎguó. Dàixī xiǎng qù sòng tā, kěshì tā jiā li rén bú ràng tā qù.
Later, he went off to France. Daisy wanted to see him off, but her family wouldn't let her.
- Nick Carraway 她没有等他？
Tā méiyǒu děng tā?
She didn't wait for him?
- Jordan Baker 一九一九年六月，她要和汤姆结婚了。汤姆送她的珍珠，要三十五万美元。
Yī jiǔ yī jiǔ nián liùyuè, tā yào hé Tāngmǔ jiéhūn le. Tāngmǔ sòng tā de zhēnzhū, yào sānshíwǔ wàn měiyuán.
In June 1919, she was going to marry Tom. The pearls Tom gave her cost three hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
- Nick Carraway 三十五万美元的珍珠？
Sānshíwǔ wàn měiyuán de zhēnzhū?
Pearls worth three hundred and fifty thousand dollars?
- Jordan Baker 可是结婚前一天晚上，我看见黛西喝醉了。她坐在洗澡水里，拿着一封信。
Kěshì jiéhūn qián yì tiān wǎnshang, wǒ kànjiàn Dàixī hēzuì le. Tā zuò zài xǐzǎo shuǐ li, názhe yì fēng xìn.
But the night before the wedding, I found Daisy drunk. She was sitting in her bath, holding a letter.
- Daisy Buchanan 这些珍珠，还给他们！我不要了！
Zhèxiē zhēnzhū, huán gěi tāmen! Wǒ bú yào le!
These pearls, give them back! I don't want them!
- Daisy Buchanan 告诉他们，黛西不想结婚了！
Gàosu tāmen, Dàixī bù xiǎng jiéhūn le!
Tell them Daisy doesn't want to get married anymore!
- Jordan Baker 那封信在水里，变成了一片一片的，像雪一样。
Nà fēng xìn zài shuǐ li, biànchéng le yí piàn yí piàn de, xiàng xuě yíyàng.
In the water, the letter came apart into little pieces, like snow.
- Nick Carraway 她还是结婚了？
Tā háishi jiéhūn le?
And she still got married?
- Jordan Baker 第二天就结婚了，一点儿都没有哭。
Dì èr tiān jiù jiéhūn le, yìdiǎnr dōu méiyǒu kū.
The very next day, and she didn't cry at all.
- Nick Carraway 汤姆对她好吗？
Tāngmǔ duì tā hǎo ma?
Was Tom good to her?
- Jordan Baker 没过多久，汤姆开车撞了。车上还有一个饭店里做事的女孩子。
Méi guò duōjiǔ, Tāngmǔ kāichē zhuàng le. Chē shang hái yǒu yí gè fàndiàn li zuòshì de nǚháizi.
Not long after, Tom crashed his car. There was a girl in it with him, a girl who worked at a hotel.
- Nick Carraway 汤姆还是那个汤姆。
Tāngmǔ háishi nàge Tāngmǔ.
Tom is still the same old Tom.
- Jordan Baker 今年六月，我说了“盖茨比”。黛西一听，就知道是他。
Jīnnián liùyuè, wǒ shuō le “Gàicíbǐ”. Dàixī yì tīng, jiù zhīdào shì tā.
This June, I said “Gatsby.” The moment Daisy heard it, she knew it was him.
- Jordan Baker 盖茨比买那座房子，是因为黛西在海那边。
Gàicíbǐ mǎi nà zuò fángzi, shì yīnwèi Dàixī zài hǎi nàbiān.
Gatsby bought that house because Daisy is just across the bay.
- Nick Carraway 那他到底想要我做什么？
Nà tā dàodǐ xiǎng yào wǒ zuò shénme?
Then what does he really want me to do?
- Jordan Baker 请黛西来你家喝茶，让他也过来。他已经等了五年。
Qǐng Dàixī lái nǐ jiā hē chá, ràng tā yě guòlai. Tā yǐjīng děng le wǔ nián.
Invite Daisy to your house for tea, and let him come over too. He's waited five years.
- Jordan Baker 还有，不要告诉黛西他也会来。
Hái yǒu, bú yào gàosu Dàixī tā yě huì lái.
And don't tell Daisy he's coming too.
- Narrator 天快黑了。尼克想起了那天晚上，草地上的那个人。
Tiān kuài hēi le. Níkè xiǎngqǐ le nà tiān wǎnshang, cǎodì shang de nàge rén.
It was getting dark. Nick remembered that night, and the man on the lawn.
- Nick Carraway 他向着海那边举起手。他要的不是天上的星星，是黛西。
Tā xiàngzhe hǎi nàbiān jǔqǐ shǒu. Tā yào de bú shì tiān shang de xīngxing, shì Dàixī.
He raised his hands toward the bay. It wasn't the stars he wanted. It was Daisy.
- Nick Carraway 五年了……她会来吗？
Wǔ nián le… tā huì lái ma?
Five years... Will she come?
