Lunch at East Egg

Gatsby's lights go dark. Then, on the hottest day of the summer, he sits down to lunch at Daisy's house in East Egg, with Tom just down the hall.

Nick went over to Gatsby's. The man who opened the door was a stranger to him.

Don't talk much? What are you afraid they'd say?
- Jay Gatsby 黛西下午常常偷偷来。我不想让别人知道。

Daisy often comes over in the afternoons, in secret. I don't want anyone to know.
- Nick Carraway 所以，你也不开晚会了？
Suǒyǐ, nǐ yě bù kāi wǎnhuì le?
So you've stopped giving parties too?
- Jay Gatsby 她不喜欢晚会。那这一切，我都不要了。
Tā bù xǐhuan wǎnhuì. Nà zhè yíqiè, wǒ dōu bú yào le.
She doesn't like parties. So I don't want any of this anymore.

The next day was the hottest day of that summer. Daisy had asked them to lunch in East Egg.

Níkè, Jiéyī, nǐmen lái le! Wǒ hé Qiáodān rè de dōu dòng bu liǎo le!
Nick, Jay, you're here! Jordan and I are too hot to move!
- Jay Gatsby 黛西，你家里真漂亮。
Dàixī, nǐ jiā li zhēn piàoliang.
Daisy, your home is beautiful.
- Jordan Baker 汤姆总是在打电话。听说，是他纽约的那个女人。

Tom's always on the phone. They say it's that woman of his in New York.

It's not her. Tom's talking about selling a car. I know about it.

Daisy got up and stole a kiss from Gatsby.

Then you go kiss Nick too!
- Nick Carraway 别看我。今天太热了。
Bié kàn wǒ. Jīntiān tài rè le.
Don't look at me. It's too hot today.
- Pammy 妈妈！我吃午饭以前，就穿好衣服了！
Māma! Wǒ chī wǔfàn yǐqián, jiù chuān hǎo yīfu le!
Mommy! I got dressed before lunch!
- Daisy Buchanan 对，帕米。妈妈想让大家都看看你！

Yes, Pammy. Mommy wanted everyone to see you!

Gatsby looks at Daisy, and Daisy looks back at him, as if no one else were here.

You always look so cool.
