On the way to New York, Tom pulls Nick off the train in a gray valley to meet his secret girlfriend, and a wild evening in a little apartment goes wrong.

A few weeks later, on a Sunday afternoon, Nick and Tom took the train to New York.

Tāngmǔ, zhè shì shénme dìfang? Fángzi shì huī de, lù shì huī de, rén yě shì huī de.
Tom, what is this place? The houses are gray, the roads are gray, even the people are gray.
- Tom Buchanan 这是灰谷。你看上边，那是埃克尔堡医生的眼睛。
Zhè shì Huīgǔ. Nǐ kàn shàngbian, nà shì Āikè'ěrbǎo yīshēng de yǎnjing.
This is the valley of ashes. Look up there: those are the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg.
- Nick Carraway 蓝色的大眼睛，黄色的大眼镜……可是没有脸。
Lánsè de dà yǎnjing, huángsè de dà yǎnjìng… kěshì méiyǒu liǎn.
Big blue eyes, big yellow glasses... but no face.
- Tom Buchanan 别看了，下车！我要你见一见我的女朋友。
Bié kàn le, xiàchē! Wǒ yào nǐ jiàn yi jiàn wǒ de nǚpéngyou.
Stop staring. We're getting off! I want you to meet my girl.
- George Wilson 布坎南先生，您好。您那辆车，什么时候卖给我？
Bùkǎnnán xiānsheng, nín hǎo. Nín nà liàng chē, shénme shíhou mài gěi wǒ?
Hello, Mr. Buchanan. That car of yours, when will you sell it to me?
- Tom Buchanan 下个星期吧，威尔逊。
Xià ge xīngqī ba, Wēi'ěrxùn.
Next week, Wilson.
- George Wilson 您上个星期也是这么说的。
Nín shàng ge xīngqī yě shì zhème shuō de.
You said that last week too.
- Tom Buchanan 你不想要？那我就卖给别人。

This man's face looks just like the ashes here.
- Myrtle Wilson 汤姆！你来了！

Tom! You came!
- Narrator 茉特尔走过她先生旁边，好像他不在那儿。
Mòtè'ěr zǒu guò tā xiānsheng pángbiān, hǎoxiàng tā bú zài nàr.
Myrtle walked right past her husband, as if he weren't there.
- Myrtle Wilson 你还站着干什么？去拿椅子啊！
Nǐ hái zhànzhe gàn shénme? Qù ná yǐzi a!
What are you standing there for? Go and get some chairs!
- Tom Buchanan 茉特尔，这是我的朋友尼克。你坐下一班火车，我们在纽约等你。
Mòtè'ěr, zhè shì wǒ de péngyou Níkè. Nǐ zuò xià yì bān huǒchē, wǒmen zài Niǔyuē děng nǐ.
Myrtle, this is my friend Nick. Take the next train. We'll wait for you in New York.
- Myrtle Wilson 汤姆，你看那只小狗，鼻子多可爱！我要它！
Tāngmǔ, nǐ kàn nà zhī xiǎogǒu, bízi duō kě'ài! Wǒ yào tā!
Tom, look at that little dog! What a cute nose! I want it!
- Tom Buchanan 想要就买吧。
Xiǎng yào jiù mǎi ba.
If you want it, buy it.
- Narrator 晚上，在他们纽约的小房子里，茉特尔的妹妹凯瑟琳也来了。

That evening, in their little apartment in New York, Myrtle's sister Catherine came too.
- Catherine 你好，我是凯瑟琳。你住在哪儿？
Nǐ hǎo, wǒ shì Kǎisèlín. Nǐ zhù zài nǎr?
Hi, I'm Catherine. Where do you live?
- Nick Carraway 西卵。我就住在盖茨比家旁边。
Xīluǎn. Wǒ jiù zhù zài Gàicíbǐ jiā pángbiān.
West Egg. I live right next door to Gatsby.
- Catherine 盖茨比？我去过他家！大家都说，他是德国皇帝家里的人。
Gàicíbǐ? Wǒ qùguo tā jiā! Dàjiā dōu shuō, tā shì Déguó huángdì jiā li de rén.
Gatsby? I've been to his house! Everybody says he's related to the Kaiser.
- Catherine 他的钱都是从那儿来的。我有点儿怕他。
Tā de qián dōu shì cóng nàr lái de. Wǒ yǒudiǎnr pà tā.
That's where all his money comes from. I'm a little afraid of him.
- Nick Carraway 那汤姆和茉特尔呢？
Nà Tāngmǔ hé Mòtè'ěr ne?
And Tom and Myrtle?
- Catherine 汤姆不爱他太太。可是他太太信天主教，不让他走。
Tāngmǔ bú ài tā tàitai. Kěshì tā tàitai xìn Tiānzhǔjiào, bú ràng tā zǒu.
Tom doesn't love his wife. But his wife is a Catholic, and she won't let him go.
- Nick Carraway 不对，黛西不信天主教。
Bú duì, Dàixī bú xìn Tiānzhǔjiào.
That's not right. Daisy isn't a Catholic.
- Catherine 茉特尔，你说，你为什么跟威尔逊结婚？
Mòtè'ěr, nǐ shuō, nǐ wèishénme gēn Wēi'ěrxùn jiéhūn?
Myrtle, tell us, why did you marry Wilson?
- Myrtle Wilson 因为我是个傻瓜！结婚那天，他的衣服都是借别人的！
Yīnwèi wǒ shì ge shǎguā! Jiéhūn nà tiān, tā de yīfu dōu shì jiè biérén de!
Because I was a fool! On our wedding day, even his clothes were borrowed!

Tom, when are you going to tell Daisy?
- Tom Buchanan 别说她的名字！

I'll say it if I want to! Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!

Tom's hand struck her on the nose. Blood began to flow.

Myrtle! Your nose... blood!
