Long ago, in New York, there was a quiet little place called Sleepy Hollow.

Children, sit down! Today we read. No talking!

Teacher Crane, what book are we reading today?
- Ichabod Crane 读鬼的故事！……不，不是。读写字的书！
Dú guǐ de gùshi!… Bù, búshì. Dú xiě zì de shū!
Ghost stories! …No, no, I mean, a book about writing!
- A Schoolboy 克兰老师，你今天吃早饭了吗？
Kèlán lǎoshī, nǐ jīntiān chī zǎofàn le ma?
Teacher Crane, did you eat breakfast today?
- Ichabod Crane 吃了！那不是我的肚子，是火在响！
Chī le! Nà búshì wǒ de dùzi, shì huǒ zài xiǎng!
I did! That wasn't my stomach, that was the fire crackling!
- A Schoolboy 老师，火在你的肚子里吗？
Lǎoshī, huǒ zài nǐ de dùzi lǐ ma?
Teacher, is the fire inside your stomach?
- A Schoolboy 老师，你昨天说，你晚上怕黑。是真的吗？
Lǎoshī, nǐ zuótiān shuō, nǐ wǎnshang pà hēi. Shì zhēnde ma?
Teacher, yesterday you said you're afraid of the dark at night. Is that true?
- Ichabod Crane 谁说的？老师什么都不怕！只是……晚上，我不喜欢一个人走路。
Shuí shuō de? Lǎoshī shénme dōu bú pà! Zhǐshì… wǎnshang, wǒ bù xǐhuan yí gè rén zǒulù.
Who said that? A teacher is afraid of nothing! It's just… at night, I don't like walking alone.
- Ichabod Crane 今晚去谁家吃饭呢？对，范塔塞尔先生家！
Jīnwǎn qù shuí jiā chīfàn ne? Duì, Fàntǎsài'ěr xiānsheng jiā!
Whose house should I eat at tonight? Yes, Mr. Van Tassel's!

Mr. Crane, you're here! Father isn't home, but my apple pie is!
- Ichabod Crane 卡特里娜小姐，你好！我只是路过……我一点也不饿！
Kǎtèlǐnà xiǎojie, nǐ hǎo! Wǒ zhǐshì lùguò… wǒ yìdiǎn yě bú è!
Miss Katrina, hello! I was just passing by… I'm not hungry at all!
- Katrina Van Tassel 真的吗？那我把派给鸟吃吧。
Zhēnde ma? Nà wǒ bǎ pài gěi niǎo chī ba.
Really? Then I'll give the pie to the birds.

No, no, not the birds! Birds don't know how to eat pie! I… I'll eat it!

Ha ha ha! Mr. Crane, you're so funny!

- Katrina Van Tassel 星期六，我爸爸有一个秋天的晚会。克兰先生，你来吗？
Xīngqīliù, wǒ bàba yǒu yí gè qiūtiān de wǎnhuì. Kèlán xiānsheng, nǐ lái ma?
On Saturday my father is having an autumn party. Mr. Crane, will you come?
- Ichabod Crane 我一定来！有很多吃的吗？
Wǒ yídìng lái! Yǒu hěn duō chī de ma?
I'll definitely come! Will there be lots to eat?
- Katrina Van Tassel 有！有鸡，有派，有好多好多吃的！爸爸说，来的人都要吃饱。
Yǒu! Yǒu jī, yǒu pài, yǒu hǎoduō hǎoduō chī de! Bàba shuō, lái de rén dōu yào chī bǎo.
Yes! Chicken, pie, so much to eat! Father says everyone who comes must eat until they're full.

Teacher, there's one more guest at the party on Saturday.

- Brom Bones 无头骑士。他每天半夜骑着马，在睡谷里找他的头。
Wútóu qíshì. Tā měi tiān bànyè qí zhe mǎ, zài Shuì Gǔ lǐ zhǎo tā de tóu.
The Headless Horseman. Every night at midnight he rides his horse through Sleepy Hollow, looking for his head.
- Ichabod Crane 没……没有头？
Méi… méiyǒu tóu?

- Brom Bones 晚会以后回家，小心你的头，瘦老师！
Wǎnhuì yǐhòu huíjiā, xiǎoxīn nǐ de tóu, shòu lǎoshī!
