Gerda drifts down a river into a sweet old woman's garden, where every rose has been hidden. One rose on a hat brings her memory back.

- Flower Woman 小女孩！小女孩！来我这儿！
Xiǎo nǚhái! Xiǎo nǚhái! Lái wǒ zhèr!
Little girl! Little girl! Come here to me!
- Gerda 老奶奶，您好。请问，这是哪儿？
Lǎo nǎinai, nín hǎo. Qǐngwèn, zhè shì nǎr?
Hello, Grandma. Excuse me, where is this?
- Flower Woman 这是我的花园。我有很多很多花！你累了吧？坐下来。
Zhè shì wǒ de huāyuán. Wǒ yǒu hěn duō hěn duō huā! Nǐ lèi le ba? Zuò xiàlái.
This is my garden. I have so many, many flowers! You must be tired. Sit down.
- Gerda 谢谢您。您看见一个男孩了吗？他叫凯。
Xièxie nín. Nín kànjiàn yí gè nánhái le ma? Tā jiào Kǎi.
Thank you. Have you seen a boy? His name is Kai.
- Flower Woman 没有，没有！这儿没有男孩。
Méiyǒu, méiyǒu! Zhèr méiyǒu nánhái.
No, no! There are no boys here.
- Flower Woman 来，让我看看你的头发。
Lái, ràng wǒ kànkan nǐ de tóufa.
Come, let me look at your hair.
- Gerda 我……有点累。我想睡觉了。
Wǒ… yǒudiǎn lèi. Wǒ xiǎng shuìjiào le.
I... feel tired. I want to sleep.
- Flower Woman 好，好。忘了凯吧。留下来，做我的女儿。
Hǎo, hǎo. Wàng le Kǎi ba. Liú xiàlái, zuò wǒ de nǚ'ér.
Good, good. Forget about Kai. Stay and be my daughter.
- Gerda 我睡了多久？花园里花真多！
Wǒ shuì le duō jiǔ? Huāyuán lǐ huā zhēn duō!
How long did I sleep? So many flowers in this garden!
- Gerda 小黄花，小白花……可是没有玫瑰。
Xiǎo huáng huā, xiǎo bái huā… Kěshì méiyǒu méigui.
Little yellow flowers, little white flowers... but no roses.
- Gerda 咦？老奶奶的头上有一朵玫瑰！
Yí? Lǎo nǎinai de tóu shàng yǒu yì duǒ méigui!
Huh? There's a rose on the old woman's hat!
- Gerda 玫瑰……凯！我想起凯了！
Méigui… Kǎi! Wǒ xiǎng qǐ Kǎi le!
A rose... Kai! I remember Kai!
- Gerda 玫瑰，玫瑰，你们在哪儿？我的眼泪掉在地上了。
Méigui, méigui, nǐmen zài nǎr? Wǒ de yǎnlèi diào zài dì shàng le.
Roses, roses, where are you? My tears are falling on the ground.
- Gerda 玫瑰，玫瑰，你们在哪儿？
Méigui, méigui, nǐmen zài nǎr?

- Rose 别哭，格尔达。我们在这儿，在下面。
Bié kū, Gé'ěrdá. Wǒmen zài zhèr, zài xiàmiàn.
Don't cry, Gerda. We're here, under the ground.
- Rose 我们在下面看见了很多人，可是没有凯。
Wǒmen zài xiàmiàn kànjiàn le hěn duō rén, kěshì méiyǒu Kǎi.
We have seen many people, but not Kai.
- Gerda 没有凯？那他……他没有死？
Méiyǒu Kǎi? Nà tā… tā méiyǒu sǐ?
No Kai? Then he... he isn't dead?
- Rose 对，他没有死。他在别的地方。
Duì, tā méiyǒu sǐ. Tā zài bié de dìfang.
Right, he isn't dead. He's somewhere else.
- Gerda 什么地方？请告诉我！
Shénme dìfang? Qǐng gàosu wǒ!

- Rose 我们不知道。只知道，那里很冷很冷。
Wǒmen bù zhīdào. Zhǐ zhīdào, nàlǐ hěn lěng hěn lěng.
We don't know. We only know it is very, very cold there.
