It was a cold Christmas morning. The boy had a new rabbit.
- The Boy 哇！一只小兔子！
Wā! Yì zhī xiǎo tùzi!
Wow! A little rabbit!
- The Boy 他好软啊！我要每天都和他玩！
Tā hǎo ruǎn a! Wǒ yào měi tiān dōu hé tā wán!
He's so soft! I want to play with him every day!
- The Velveteen Rabbit 咦？这是哪儿？这个男孩是谁啊？
Yí? Zhè shì nǎr? Zhège nánhái shì shéi a?
Huh? Where is this? Who is this boy?
- The Boy 你好，小兔子。别怕，我是你的新朋友。
Nǐ hǎo, xiǎo tùzi. Bié pà, wǒ shì nǐ de xīn péngyou.
Hello, little rabbit. Don't be scared, I'm your new friend.
- The Velveteen Rabbit 朋友！我有朋友了！我好高兴！
Péngyou! Wǒ yǒu péngyou le! Wǒ hǎo gāoxìng!
A friend! I have a friend! I'm so happy!
- Nanny 还有一个很大的礼物！快来看看！
Hái yǒu yí gè hěn dà de lǐwù! Kuài lái kànkan!
There's one more very big present! Come and look!
- The Boy 很大的礼物？在哪儿？我要去看看！
Hěn dà de lǐwù? Zài nǎr? Wǒ yào qù kànkan!
A very big present? Where? I'm going to look!
- The Boy 小兔子，你在这儿等我，我很快回来。
Xiǎo tùzi, nǐ zài zhèr děng wǒ, wǒ hěn kuài huílái.
Little rabbit, wait for me here. I'll be right back.
- Narrator 到了晚上，男孩没有回来。小兔子还在等。
Dàole wǎnshang, nánhái méiyǒu huílái. Xiǎo tùzi hái zài děng.
When night came, the boy had not come back. The little rabbit was still waiting.
- Ding Ding 让一让！我是新玩具！我会走路，你看！
Ràng yi ràng! Wǒ shì xīn wánjù! Wǒ huì zǒulù, nǐ kàn!
Make way! I'm a new toy! I can walk, look!
- The Velveteen Rabbit 你好！我是……我是一只小兔子。
Nǐ hǎo! Wǒ shì… wǒ shì yì zhī xiǎo tùzi.
Hello! I'm... I'm a little rabbit.
- Ding Ding 你会走路吗？你会叫吗？你会做什么？
Nǐ huì zǒulù ma? Nǐ huì jiào ma? Nǐ huì zuò shénme?
Can you walk? Can you make a noise? What can you do?
- The Velveteen Rabbit 我……我不会走路，也不会叫。我只是软软的。
Wǒ… wǒ bú huì zǒulù, yě bú huì jiào. Wǒ zhǐshì ruǎnruǎn de.
I... I can't walk, and I can't make a noise. I'm just soft.
- Ding Ding 哈哈！软软的？我不是软的，我是最好的！
Hāhā! Ruǎnruǎn de? Wǒ bú shì ruǎn de, wǒ shì zuì hǎo de!
Ha ha! Soft? I'm not soft, I'm the best!
- The Velveteen Rabbit 可是男孩说，他爱我，他要和我玩。
Kěshì nánhái shuō, tā ài wǒ, tā yào hé wǒ wán.
But the boy said he loves me, and he wants to play with me.
- Ding Ding 他今天玩了我十次！你玩了几次呢？
Tā jīntiān wán le wǒ shí cì! Nǐ wán le jǐ cì ne?
He played with me ten times today! How many times did he play with you?
- The Velveteen Rabbit 我……我只有一次，在早上。
Wǒ… wǒ zhǐ yǒu yí cì, zài zǎoshang.
I... only once, in the morning.
- Ding Ding 你看，你什么都不会！我要走了，再见！
Nǐ kàn, nǐ shénme dōu bú huì! Wǒ yào zǒu le, zàijiàn!
See? You can't do anything! I'm leaving now, bye!
- The Velveteen Rabbit 我什么都不会。我是不是一只不好的兔子？
Wǒ shénme dōu bú huì. Wǒ shì bu shì yì zhī bù hǎo de tùzi?
I can't do anything. Am I a bad rabbit?
- The Skin Horse 别难过，小兔子。来，坐在我这儿。
Bié nánguò, xiǎo tùzi. Lái, zuò zài wǒ zhèr.
Don't be sad, little rabbit. Come, sit by me.
- The Velveteen Rabbit 你是谁？你怎么这么老，这么旧啊？
Nǐ shì shéi? Nǐ zěnme zhème lǎo, zhème jiù a?
Who are you? Why are you so old and worn?
- The Skin Horse 哈哈，我是老马。我又老又旧了。
Hāhā, wǒ shì Lǎo Mǎ. Wǒ yòu lǎo yòu jiù le.
Ha ha, I'm the Old Horse. I'm old and worn out.
- The Skin Horse 那个新玩具不懂。他不知道什么是真的。
Nàge xīn wánjù bù dǒng. Tā bù zhīdào shénme shì zhēn de.
That new toy doesn't understand. He doesn't know what is Real.
- The Velveteen Rabbit 真的？我是玩具啊，怎么会是真的？

Real? I'm a toy. How can I be Real?
- The Skin Horse 有一天，一个爱你的男孩会让你变成真的。

One day, a boy who loves you will make you Real.
- The Velveteen Rabbit 变成真的？怎么变？老马，快告诉我！
