Over meat and wine, a loud butcher, a gentle sandal seller and a very red man with a very long beard discover they want the same thing. Then someone dares to say the word brothers.

Guan Yu, why is your face so red? Did you drink too much?

I haven't had a drop today. My face has been this red since I was little.
- Zhang Fei 你的胡子好长啊！像一条黑黑的河！
Nǐ de húzi hǎo cháng a! Xiàng yì tiáo hēihēi de hé!
Your beard is so long! It's like a black river!
- Guan Yu 你的胡子也不小。像很多黑草。
Nǐ de húzi yě bù xiǎo. Xiàng hěn duō hēi cǎo.
Your beard isn't small either. It looks like a lot of black grass.
- Liu Bei 好了，好了。你们的胡子，都很好看。
Hǎo le, hǎo le. Nǐmen de húzi, dōu hěn hǎokàn.
All right, all right. Both your beards are very handsome.
- Liu Bei 关羽，你要去哪儿？
Guān Yǔ, nǐ yào qù nǎr?
Guan Yu, where are you going?
- Guan Yu 我要去当兵。我看见了那个告示。
Wǒ yào qù dāngbīng. Wǒ kànjiàn le nàge gàoshì.
I'm going to join the army. I saw that notice.
- Guan Yu 我想帮大家。可是我一个人，帮不了很多。
Wǒ xiǎng bāng dàjiā. Kěshì wǒ yí gè rén, bāng bù liǎo hěn duō.
I want to help everyone. But one man alone can't help very many.
- Liu Bei 我也是这么想的！我们是一样的人！
Wǒ yě shì zhème xiǎng de! Wǒmen shì yíyàng de rén!
That's just what I think too! We're the same kind of people!
- Zhang Fei 三个人！我们三个人一起去！
Sān gè rén! Wǒmen sān gè rén yìqǐ qù!
Three people! The three of us will go together!
- Innkeeper 客人，你们的肉来了！
Kèrén, nǐmen de ròu lái le!
Guests, your meat is here!
- Zhang Fei 老板，这肉不好！我卖的肉更好！我是卖肉的！
Lǎobǎn, zhè ròu bù hǎo! Wǒ mài de ròu gèng hǎo! Wǒ shì mài ròu de!
Innkeeper, this meat isn't good! The meat I sell is much better! I'm a butcher!
- Innkeeper 那你自己来做吧！
Nà nǐ zìjǐ lái zuò ba!
Then you can come and cook it yourself!
- Guan Yu 刘备，我想问你。你是好人吗？
Liú Bèi, wǒ xiǎng wèn nǐ. Nǐ shì hǎo rén ma?
Liu Bei, I want to ask you something. Are you a good man?
- Liu Bei 我没有很多东西。可是我想帮大家，真的。
Wǒ méiyǒu hěn duō dōngxi. Kěshì wǒ xiǎng bāng dàjiā, zhēn de.
I don't have much. But I want to help everyone, truly.
- Guan Yu 好。我相信你。
Hǎo. Wǒ xiāngxìn nǐ.
Good. I believe you.
- Zhang Fei 那我呢？我呢？我也想帮大家！
Nà wǒ ne? Wǒ ne? Wǒ yě xiǎng bāng dàjiā!
What about me? What about me? I want to help everyone too!
- Guan Yu 你的声音太大。可是你是好人。
Nǐ de shēngyīn tài dà. Kěshì nǐ shì hǎo rén.
Your voice is far too loud. But you're a good man.
- Narrator 天黑了。月亮出来了。他们走出小店。
Tiān hēi le. Yuèliang chūlái le. Tāmen zǒu chū xiǎo diàn.
It grew dark. The moon came out. They walked out of the inn.
- Zhang Fei 你们看！那边是我家的桃园！
Nǐmen kàn! Nà biān shì wǒ jiā de táoyuán!
Look, you two! That's my family's peach garden over there!
- Zhang Fei 桃园里的花，真好看！明天我们去那儿！
Táoyuán lǐ de huā, zhēn hǎokàn! Míngtiān wǒmen qù nàr!
The flowers in the peach garden are so beautiful! Tomorrow, let's go there!
- Liu Bei 去做什么？
Qù zuò shénme?
To do what?
- Zhang Fei 我们三个人，做兄弟！好不好？
Wǒmen sān gè rén, zuò xiōngdì! Hǎo bù hǎo?
The three of us, let's be brothers! What do you say?
- Guan Yu 兄弟……好。可是，兄弟要说一句话，说了就不能变。你们怕吗？
Xiōngdì… Hǎo. Kěshì, xiōngdì yào shuō yí jù huà, shuō le jiù bù néng biàn. Nǐmen pà ma?
Brothers... good. But brothers must say one promise, and once said it can never change. Are you afraid?
