The Graveyard at Midnight
半夜的墓地
At midnight, Tom and Huck creep into the graveyard with a dead cat. What they see under the big tree is a secret so dangerous that they swear never to tell.

At midnight the moon was big and the wind was cold. Tom and Huck stepped into the silent graveyard, surrounded by old stones.
- Tom Sawyer 哈克，这里真黑……你听，那是什么声音？
Hākè, zhèlǐ zhēn hēi… nǐ tīng, nà shì shénme shēngyīn?
Huck, it's so dark here... listen, what's that sound?
- Huck Finn 是风，是风！汤姆，你不要吓我。
Shì fēng, shì fēng! Tāngmǔ, nǐ búyào xià wǒ.
It's the wind, just the wind! Tom, don't scare me.

My hand is NOT shaking! This dead cat is just heavy.
- Tom Sawyer 嘘！你看那边，有灯光！有人朝这里走过来了！
Xū! Nǐ kàn nà biān, yǒu dēngguāng! Yǒu rén cháo zhèlǐ zǒu guòlái le!
Shh! Look over there, a light! Someone's coming!
- Huck Finn 快躲起来！躲到那块石头后面去！
Kuài duǒ qǐlái! Duǒ dào nà kuài shítou hòumiàn qù!
Hide, quick! Get behind that stone!
- Tom Sawyer 别动，别出声。他们过来了，有三个人。
Bié dòng, bié chū shēng. Tāmen guòlái le, yǒu sān gè rén.
Don't move, don't make a sound. They're coming, three of them.
- Huck Finn 那个高高的人是乔！镇上的人都说，他是最坏的人。
Nàge gāogāo de rén shì Qiáo! Zhèn shàng de rén dōu shuō, tā shì zuì huài de rén.
The tall one is Joe! Everybody in town says he's the worst man around.
- Old Potter 乔，医生，我们把箱子放下吧。我头好晕啊……我喝太多了。
Qiáo, yīshēng, wǒmen bǎ xiāngzi fàngxià ba. Wǒ tóu hǎo yūn a… wǒ hē tài duō le.
Joe, Doctor, let's put the box down. My head is spinning... I drank too much.
- The Doctor 你们要的钱，我已经给过了。现在，让我走。
Nǐmen yào de qián, wǒ yǐjīng gěi guò le. Xiànzài, ràng wǒ zǒu.
I've already paid you what you asked. Now let me go.
- Joe 不行！你以前赶我出门，不给我饭吃。今天我要更多的钱！
Bù xíng! Nǐ yǐqián gǎn wǒ chūmén, bù gěi wǒ fàn chī. Jīntiān wǒ yào gèng duō de qián!
No! You threw me out and gave me nothing to eat. Today I want more money!
- The Doctor 我不会再给你钱了。乔，你让开，我要回家！
Wǒ búhuì zài gěi nǐ qián le. Qiáo, nǐ ràng kāi, wǒ yào huí jiā!
I won't give you any more. Joe, get out of my way!
- Tom Sawyer 他们打起来了！哈克，我不敢看！
Tāmen dǎ qǐlái le! Hākè, wǒ bù gǎn kàn!
They're fighting! Huck, I can't look!
- Narrator 医生倒在地上，不动了。老波特也倒在旁边，睡着了。
Yīshēng dǎo zài dìshang, bú dòng le. Lǎo Bótè yě dǎo zài pángbiān, shuìzháo le.
The doctor fell to the ground and did not move. Old Potter lay down nearby, fast asleep.
- Joe 哈哈，没有人看见！医生是老波特杀的。他喝醉了，什么都不记得。
Hāhā, méiyǒu rén kànjiàn! Yīshēng shì Lǎo Bótè shā de. Tā hēzuì le, shénme dōu bú jìde.
Ha ha, nobody saw a thing! Old Potter did it. He's drunk, he'll never remember.
- Joe 来，老波特，醒醒。刀在你的手里了。你自己看看！
Lái, Lǎo Bótè, xǐngxing. Dāo zài nǐ de shǒu lǐ le. Nǐ zìjǐ kànkan!
Come on, Potter, wake up. The knife is in your hand now. See for yourself!
- Old Potter 乔？我……我做了什么？医生怎么了？
Qiáo? Wǒ… wǒ zuò le shénme? Yīshēng zěnme le?
Joe? What... what did I do? What's wrong with the Doctor?
- Joe 你喝醉了，杀了医生。你什么都不记得了吗？
Nǐ hēzuì le, shā le yīshēng. Nǐ shénme dōu bú jìde le ma?
You got drunk and killed the Doctor. You don't remember anything?
- Old Potter 天啊，我怎么会……乔，你帮帮我，我们快走吧！
Tiān a, wǒ zěnme huì… Qiáo, nǐ bāngbang wǒ, wǒmen kuài zǒu ba!
Oh no, how could I... Joe, help me, let's get out of here!
- Huck Finn 汤姆，你听见了吗？乔在说谎！
Tāngmǔ, nǐ tīngjiàn le ma? Qiáo zài shuōhuǎng!
Tom, did you hear that? Joe is lying!
- Tom Sawyer 我全都看见了！可是……我们怎么办？
Wǒ quándōu kànjiàn le! Kěshì… wǒmen zěnme bàn?
I saw everything! But... what do we do?
- Narrator 乔和老波特走远了。墓地里又安静了。
Qiáo hé Lǎo Bótè zǒu yuǎn le. Mùdì lǐ yòu ānjìng le.
Joe and Old Potter walked away. The graveyard was quiet again.
- Huck Finn 汤姆，我们不能说。乔要是知道了，我们两个都有危险。
Tāngmǔ, wǒmen bù néng shuō. Qiáo yàoshi zhīdào le, wǒmen liǎng gè dōu yǒu wēixiǎn.
Tom, we can't tell. If Joe finds out, we're both in danger.
- Tom Sawyer 可是老波特没有做错事。要是我们不说，他会怎么样？
Kěshì Lǎo Bótè méiyǒu zuò cuò shì. Yàoshi wǒmen bù shuō, tā huì zěnmeyàng?
But Old Potter didn't do anything wrong. If we say nothing, what will happen to him?
- Huck Finn 那也不能说！汤姆，我们发一个誓吧。
Nà yě bù néng shuō! Tāngmǔ, wǒmen fā yí gè shì ba.
We still can't tell! Tom, let's make a promise.
- Tom Sawyer 好。我发誓，永远不把今天晚上的事告诉别人。
Hǎo. Wǒ fāshì, yǒngyuǎn bù bǎ jīntiān wǎnshang de shì gàosu biérén.
Okay. I swear I'll never tell anyone what happened tonight.
- Huck Finn 我也发誓。谁说出去，谁就是坏孩子。
Wǒ yě fāshì. Shéi shuō chūqù, shéi jiù shì huài háizi.
I swear too. Whoever tells is a bad kid.
- Tom Sawyer 哈克，你说……老波特会怎么样？
Hākè, nǐ shuō… Lǎo Bótè huì zěnmeyàng?
Huck, what do you think... will happen to Old Potter?
- Huck Finn 别想了。我们快回家，就当今天晚上什么都没看见。
Bié xiǎng le. Wǒmen kuài huí jiā, jiù dāng jīntiān wǎnshang shénme dōu méi kànjiàn.
Stop thinking about it. Let's go home and pretend we saw nothing.
- Tom Sawyer 哈克……要是他们明天真的抓走老波特，我怎么睡得着？
Hākè… yàoshi tāmen míngtiān zhēnde zhuāzǒu Lǎo Bótè, wǒ zěnme shuì de zháo?
Huck... if they really take Old Potter away tomorrow, how will I ever sleep?
