The Lamp in the Cave
山洞里的灯
Out in the mountains the ground splits open, and Aladdin climbs down to fetch an old lamp from a garden where the fruit glows. Getting back out is another matter.

- Narrator 第二天，叔叔带着阿拉丁出了城，一直走到了山里。
Dì èr tiān, shūshu dàizhe Ālādīng chū le chéng, yìzhí zǒu dào le shān lǐ.
The next day, the uncle led Aladdin out of the city and walked on and on, into the mountains.
- Aladdin 叔叔，还有多远？我的脚好累，我也饿了！
Shūshu, hái yǒu duō yuǎn? Wǒ de jiǎo hǎo lèi, wǒ yě è le!
Uncle, how much farther? My feet are so tired, and I'm hungry too!
- The Magician 快到了，我的好孩子。你看，就是这里！
Kuài dào le, wǒ de hǎo háizi. Nǐ kàn, jiù shì zhèlǐ!
Almost there, my dear boy. Look, this is the place!

- Aladdin 这里？这里只有石头啊！大商店呢？
Zhèlǐ? Zhèlǐ zhǐ yǒu shítou a! Dà shāngdiàn ne?
Here? There's nothing here but rocks! Where's my big shop?
- Narrator 叔叔在地上生了火。他往火里放了一点儿东西，又说了几句奇怪的话。
Shūshu zài dì shang shēng le huǒ. Tā wǎng huǒ lǐ fàng le yìdiǎnr dōngxi, yòu shuō le jǐ jù qíguài de huà.
The uncle built a fire on the ground. He threw something into it and muttered a few strange words.
- Aladdin 好大的烟！啊，地在动！
Hǎo dà de yān! A, dì zài dòng!
Look at all that smoke! Ah, the ground is shaking!
- The Magician 看！地开了！下面有一块大石头，上面还有一个环。
Kàn! Dì kāi le! Xiàmiàn yǒu yí kuài dà shítou, shàngmiàn hái yǒu yí gè huán.
Look! The ground has opened! There's a big stone down there, with a ring on top.
- Aladdin 我怕！我要回家！
Wǒ pà! Wǒ yào huí jiā!
I'm scared! I want to go home!
- The Magician 站住！别跑！
Zhànzhù! Bié pǎo!
Stop right there! Don't you run!
- The Magician 别怕，我的好孩子。石头下面有很多好东西，都是给你的。只有你能打开它！
Bié pà, wǒ de hǎo háizi. Shítou xiàmiàn yǒu hěn duō hǎo dōngxi, dōu shì gěi nǐ de. Zhǐyǒu nǐ néng dǎkāi tā!
Don't be afraid, my dear boy. Under that stone are all sorts of wonderful things, and they're all for you. Only you can open it!
- Aladdin 只有我？这么大的石头……
Zhǐyǒu wǒ? Zhème dà de shítou…
Only me? A stone that big…?
- The Magician 你拉那个环，它就开了。
Nǐ lā nàge huán, tā jiù kāi le.
Pull that ring, and it will open.
- Aladdin 啊？一拉就开了！一点儿也不重！
Á? Yì lā jiù kāi le! Yìdiǎnr yě bú zhòng!
Huh? One pull and it opened! It isn't heavy at all!
- The Magician 你听好：下面有很多金子，一个也不要碰！
Nǐ tīng hǎo: xiàmiàn yǒu hěn duō jīnzi, yí gè yě bú yào pèng!
Now listen carefully: down there is a lot of gold. Don't touch a single piece!
- The Magician 走过金子，有一个花园。花园里有一盏旧灯，你拿来给我。
Zǒu guò jīnzi, yǒu yí gè huāyuán. Huāyuán lǐ yǒu yì zhǎn jiù dēng, nǐ ná lái gěi wǒ.
Past the gold there's a garden. In the garden there's an old lamp. Bring it to me.
- The Magician 这个戒指给你戴上，它会保护你。
Zhège jièzhi gěi nǐ dài shàng, tā huì bǎohù nǐ.
Wear this ring. It will keep you safe.
- Aladdin 好！叔叔，你等着我！
Hǎo! Shūshu, nǐ děngzhe wǒ!
All right! Wait for me, Uncle!
- Narrator 阿拉丁走进了山洞。里面有很多很多金子，他一个也没有碰。
Ālādīng zǒu jìn le shāndòng. Lǐmiàn yǒu hěn duō hěn duō jīnzi, tā yí gè yě méiyǒu pèng.
Aladdin went down into the cave. There was gold everywhere, but he didn't touch a single piece.
- Aladdin 这就是那盏旧灯？这么旧，叔叔要它做什么？
Zhè jiù shì nà zhǎn jiù dēng? Zhème jiù, shūshu yào tā zuò shénme?
This is the old lamp? It's so old. What does Uncle want it for?
- Aladdin 这个花园真漂亮！树上的果子，红的、绿的、白的，都在发光！
Zhège huāyuán zhēn piàoliang! Shù shang de guǒzi, hóng de, lǜ de, bái de, dōu zài fāguāng!
What a beautiful garden! The fruit on the trees is red, green and white, and it's all glowing!
- Aladdin 我饿了，吃一个吧……啊！我的牙！这是石头做的果子！
Wǒ è le, chī yí gè ba… A! Wǒ de yá! Zhè shì shítou zuò de guǒzi!
I'm starving. I'll eat one… Ow! My tooth! This fruit is made of stone!
- Aladdin 不能吃，可是真好看。多拿一些，带回家给妈妈！
Bù néng chī, kěshì zhēn hǎokàn. Duō ná yìxiē, dài huí jiā gěi māma!
Can't eat them, but they're so pretty. I'll take lots home for Mom!
- Narrator 阿拉丁回到了山洞口。他的衣服里都是“果子”，很重很重。
Ālādīng huí dào le shāndòng kǒu. Tā de yīfu lǐ dōu shì “guǒzi”, hěn zhòng hěn zhòng.
Aladdin made his way back to the mouth of the cave. His robe was stuffed with “fruit,” and it was very, very heavy.
- Aladdin 叔叔！最后一级太高了，你拉我一下！
Shūshu! Zuìhòu yì jí tài gāo le, nǐ lā wǒ yíxià!
Uncle! The last step is too high. Give me a hand!
- The Magician 先把灯给我！
Xiān bǎ dēng gěi wǒ!
Give me the lamp first!
- Aladdin 灯在衣服里，上面都是果子，我拿不出来。你先拉我上去！
Dēng zài yīfu lǐ, shàngmiàn dōu shì guǒzi, wǒ ná bù chūlái. Nǐ xiān lā wǒ shàngqù!
The lamp's in my robe, under all the fruit. I can't get it out. Pull me up first!
- The Magician 先给我灯！
Xiān gěi wǒ dēng!
The lamp first!
- Aladdin 先拉我上去！
Xiān lā wǒ shàngqù!
Pull me up first!
- The Magician 好！你不给我灯，那你就在下面吧！
Hǎo! Nǐ bù gěi wǒ dēng, nà nǐ jiù zài xiàmiàn ba!
Fine! If you won't give me the lamp, you can stay down there!
- Narrator 叔叔又说了几句奇怪的话。大石头关上了，山洞里黑黑的，什么也看不见了。
Shūshu yòu shuō le jǐ jù qíguài de huà. Dà shítou guān shàng le, shāndòng lǐ hēihēi de, shénme yě kàn bú jiàn le.
The uncle muttered his strange words again. The great stone slammed shut, and the cave went pitch black.
- Aladdin 叔叔！叔叔！开门！……他不是我的叔叔！
Shūshu! Shūshu! Kāi mén! … Tā bú shì wǒ de shūshu!
Uncle! Uncle! Open up! … He was never my uncle!
- Aladdin 好黑啊……谁能来救救我？
Hǎo hēi a… shéi néng lái jiùjiu wǒ?
It's so dark… Won't somebody come and save me?
