The Battle of Muye
牧野之战
Two armies meet on the plain of Muye. Then Daji faces the mirror once more, and old Jiang Taigong decides what happens to the fox.

- Narrator 天亮了。牧野的大平原上，两边的兵站在对面。
Tiān liàng le. Mùyě de dà píngyuán shàng, liǎng biān de bīng zhàn zài duìmiàn.
Dawn came. On the wide plain of Muye, the two armies stood facing each other.
- King Wu 太公，商朝的兵，比我们多很多。
Tàigōng, Shāngcháo de bīng, bǐ wǒmen duō hěn duō.
Taigong, Shang has many more soldiers than we do.
- Jiang Ziya 兵多，不一定会赢。他们的心，不在大王身上。
Bīng duō, bù yídìng huì yíng. Tāmen de xīn, bú zài dàwáng shēnshang.
More soldiers does not always mean winning. Their hearts are not with their king.

Nà wǒmen zěnme bàn?

- Jiang Ziya 拿好你的旗，慢慢往前走。看他们怎么做。
Ná hǎo nǐ de qí, mànmàn wǎng qián zǒu. Kàn tāmen zěnme zuò.
Hold your banner and walk forward slowly. Watch what they do.
- King Wu 太公，你看！商朝的兵，把刀放下了！
Tàigōng, nǐ kàn! Shāngcháo de bīng, bǎ dāo fàngxià le!
Taigong, look! The Shang soldiers are putting down their swords!
- Jiang Ziya 他们也累了。他们想回家。
Tāmen yě lèi le. Tāmen xiǎng huíjiā.
They are tired too. They want to go home.
- King Wu 那……我们赢了？可是，我不想笑。
Nà… wǒmen yíng le? Kěshì, wǒ bù xiǎng xiào.
So… we won? But I don't feel like smiling.
- Narrator 那一天，商朝的兵就散了。纣王回到宫里，再也没有出来。
Nà yì tiān, Shāngcháo de bīng jiù sàn le. Zhòuwáng huí dào gōng lǐ, zài yě méiyǒu chūlái.
That day the Shang army fell apart. King Zhou went back into his palace and never came out again.
- Jiang Ziya 你难过，是因为你是个好人。走吧，还有一个人在等我们。
Nǐ nánguò, shì yīnwèi nǐ shì gè hǎorén. Zǒu ba, hái yǒu yí gè rén zài děng wǒmen.
You are sad because you are a good man. Come, someone else is waiting for us.
- Daji 放开我！我是妲己夫人！
Fàngkāi wǒ! Wǒ shì Dájǐ fūrén!
Let me go! I am Lady Daji!
- Jiang Ziya 是吗？这里没有别人。我们说真话吧。你到底是谁？
Shì ma? Zhèlǐ méiyǒu biérén. Wǒmen shuō zhēnhuà ba. Nǐ dàodǐ shì shéi?
Is that so? There is no one else here. Let's speak the truth. Who are you, really?
- Daji 你是一个钓鱼的老头。你能拿我怎么样？
Nǐ shì yí gè diàoyú de lǎotóu. Nǐ néng ná wǒ zěnmeyàng?
You're just an old fisherman. What can you do to me?
- Jiang Ziya 钓了一辈子的鱼，我知道什么时候拉线。
Diào le yí bèizi de yú, wǒ zhīdào shénme shíhou lā xiàn.
After a lifetime of fishing, I know when to pull the line.
- Jiang Ziya 现在，请看这面镜子。
Xiànzài, qǐng kàn zhè miàn jìngzi.
Now, please look into this mirror.
- Daji 不！不要！我的脸……我的脸！
Bù! Bú yào! Wǒ de liǎn… wǒ de liǎn!
No! Don't! My face… my face!
- Narrator 镜子亮了。美丽的脸不见了，一只白狐狸坐在地上。
Jìngzi liàng le. Měilì de liǎn bú jiàn le, yì zhī bái húli zuò zài dìshang.
The mirror glowed. The beautiful face was gone, and a white fox sat on the ground.
- King Wu 一只狐狸！她真的是狐狸！
Yì zhī húli! Tā zhēn de shì húli!
A fox! She really was a fox!
- The Fox Spirit 女神叫我来的。我只想玩。可是，我让很多人哭了。
Nǚshén jiào wǒ lái de. Wǒ zhǐ xiǎng wán. Kěshì, wǒ ràng hěn duō rén kū le.
The goddess sent me. I only wanted to play. But I made many people cry.
- Jiang Ziya 你做的事，你要记住。可是你也是山里的孩子。
Nǐ zuò de shì, nǐ yào jìzhù. Kěshì nǐ yě shì shān lǐ de háizi.
You must remember what you did. But you are also a child of the mountains.
- Jiang Ziya 回山里去吧。不要再变成人。
Huí shān lǐ qù ba. Bú yào zài biànchéng rén.
Go back to the mountains. Do not turn into a person again.
- The Fox Spirit 您……放我走？
Nín… fàng wǒ zǒu?
You… you are letting me go?
- King Wu 太公，她做了那么多坏事，可以放她吗？
Tàigōng, tā zuò le nàme duō huài shì, kěyǐ fàng tā ma?
Taigong, she did so many bad things. Can we let her go?
- Jiang Ziya 女神要商朝完，商朝已经完了。狐狸的事，就到这里吧。
Nǚshén yào Shāngcháo wán, Shāngcháo yǐjīng wán le. Húli de shì, jiù dào zhèlǐ ba.
The goddess wanted Shang to end, and Shang has ended. Let the fox's story end here.
- The Fox Spirit 谢谢您，钓鱼的老人。我不会忘，也不会再回来。
Xièxie nín, diàoyú de lǎorén. Wǒ bú huì wàng, yě bú huì zài huílái.
Thank you, old fisherman. I will not forget, and I will not come back.
- King Wu 太公，现在天下太平了吗？
Tàigōng, xiànzài tiānxià tàipíng le ma?
Taigong, is the world at peace now?
- Jiang Ziya 还没有。我听说，有一个年轻人，额头上有第三只眼睛。他叫杨戬。
Hái méiyǒu. Wǒ tīngshuō, yǒu yí gè niánqīng rén, étóu shàng yǒu dì sān zhī yǎnjing. Tā jiào Yáng Jiǎn.
Not yet. I hear there is a young man with a third eye on his forehead. His name is Yang Jian.
- King Wu 三只眼睛？太公，我们去找他吧！
Sān zhī yǎnjing? Tàigōng, wǒmen qù zhǎo tā ba!
Three eyes? Taigong, let's go and find him!
