- Granny Liu 啊……我这是在哪儿？这张床真软，像躺在云上。
A… Wǒ zhè shì zài nǎr? Zhè zhāngchuáng zhēnruǎn, xiàng tǎng zài yúnshàng.
Ah... where am I? This bed is so soft, it's like lying on a cloud.

You must be Granny Liu? This is Master Baoyu's room. You took a wrong turn.
- Granny Liu 天哪！我睡在少爷的床上？我这一身酒味，还有泥土味，会把人家的被子弄脏的！
Tiān nǎ! Wǒ shuì zài shàoyé de chuángshàng? Wǒ zhè yìshēn jiǔwèi, háiyǒu nítǔ wèi, huì bǎ rénjiā de bèizi nòngzāng de!
Heavens! I slept in a young master's bed? With my smell of wine and earth, I'll dirty the quilt!
- Xiren 别喊，别喊，这件事只有您和我知道，我不会告诉别人。
Biéhǎn, biéhǎn, zhèjiàn shì zhǐyǒu nín hé wǒ zhīdào, wǒ bú huì gàosu biérén.
Shh, don't shout. Only you and I know about this, and I won't tell anyone.
- Granny Liu 我真该打，七十多岁的人了，还做这种事，让人笑话。
Wǒ zhēngāi dǎ, qīshí duōsuì de rén le, hái zuò zhèzhǒng shì, ràng rén xiàohuà.
I deserve a scolding! At my age doing such a thing, people will laugh at me.
- Xiren 没人会笑您。我去点一点香，把酒味盖住，您再洗洗脸，谁也不会发现。
Méirénhuì xiào nín. Wǒ qù diǎn yìdiǎn xiāng, bǎ jiǔwèi gàizhù, nín zài xǐxǐ liǎn, shuí yě bú huì fāxiàn.
Nobody will laugh. I'll light some incense to cover the smell of wine, and you can wash your face, and no one will notice.
- Granny Liu 姑娘，你的心比莲花还干净。
Gūniáng, nǐ de xīnbǐ liánhuā hái gānjìng.
Miss, your heart is cleaner than a lotus flower.
- Xiren 快去洗脸吧，我陪您走过去，路上不会有人问您。老太太正在找您，她担心您走丢了。
Kuàiqù xǐliǎn ba, wǒ péinín zǒu guòqù, lùshàng bú huì yǒurén wèn nín. Lǎotàitai zhèngzài zhǎo nín, tā dānxīn nín zǒu diū le.
Go wash your face. The old lady is looking for you, she's worried you're lost.
- Granny Liu 姑娘，老太太待我这么好，我不想骗她。我想跟她说实话。
Gūniáng, lǎotàitai dài wǒ zhème hǎo, wǒ bù xiǎng piàn tā. Wǒ xiǎng gēn tā shuōshíhuà.
Miss, the old lady has been so good to me that I don't want to lie to her. I want to tell her the truth.
- Xiren 您说实话，老太太也不会生气的，她最喜欢您这样的人。
Nín shuōshíhuà, lǎotàitai yě bú huì shēngqì de, tā zuì xǐhuan nín zhèyàng de rén.
If you tell the truth, the old lady won't be angry. She likes people like you best.
- Narrator 傍晚，刘姥姥回到老太太的大厅，桌子上已经放满了给她的礼物。
Bàngwǎn, Liú lǎolao huídào lǎotàitai de dàtīng, zhuōzi shàng yǐjīng fàngmǎn le gěi tā de lǐwù.
In the evening, Granny Liu returned to the old lady's hall, where the table was already piled with gifts for her.
- Grandmother Jia 刘姥姥，你可回来了！我们找了你半天，大家都很担心。
Liú lǎolao, nǐ kě huílái le! Wǒmen zhǎo le nǐ bàntiān, dàjiā dōu hěn dānxīn.
Granny Liu, you're back at last! We've been looking for you for ages, and everyone was worried.
- Granny Liu 老太太，我不该喝那么多酒。我走错了路，还睡在了一位少爷的床上。
Lǎotàitai, wǒ bù gāi hē nàme duōjiǔ. Wǒ zǒu cuò le lù, hái shuì zài le yí wèi shàoyé de chuángshàng.
Old lady, I shouldn't have drunk so much wine. I took a wrong turn and even slept in a young master's bed.
- Baoyu 我的床？那太好了！您睡得舒服吗？我的床还没睡过这么有福的人呢。
Wǒ de chuáng? Nà tàihǎole! Nín shuì dé shūfú ma? Wǒ de chuáng hái méi shuì guò zhème yǒufú de rén ne.
My bed? How wonderful! Did you sleep well? My bed has never held anyone so lucky.
- Grandmother Jia 你这孩子，别打趣人家。刘姥姥，你睡一觉有什么关系，人平安就好。
Nǐ zhè háizi, bié dǎqù rénjiā. Liú lǎolao, nǐ shuìyíjiào yǒu shénme guānxi, rén píng'ān jiù hǎo.
You child, don't tease her. Granny Liu, what's wrong with a nap? What matters is that you're safe.
- Granny Liu 老太太，您不生气吗？
Lǎotàitai, nín bù shēngqì ma?
Old lady, you're not angry?
- Grandmother Jia 我这辈子见过很多客人，只有你说实话，笑起来像太阳一样。我怎么会生气？
Wǒ zhèbèizi jiànguò hěnduō kèrén, zhǐyǒu nǐ shuōshíhuà, xiào qǐlái xiàng tàiyáng yíyàng. Wǒ zěnme huì shēngqì?
In all my years I've met many guests, and only you speak the truth and laugh like the sun. How could I be angry?
- Baoyu 刘姥姥！您的故事还没有讲完呢！那个穿红袄的小姑娘，后来怎么样了？
Liú lǎolao! Nín de gùshi hái méiyǒu jiǎngwán ne! Nàge chuānhóng'ǎo de xiǎogūniáng, hòulái zěnmeyàng le?
Granny Liu! You haven't finished your story! What happened to the girl in the red jacket?
- Granny Liu 哈哈，我差点忘了！她是隔壁的小红，家里没有柴烧，半夜来我家借了一捆柴。
Hāhā, wǒ chàdiǎn wàng le! Tā shì gébì de xiǎohóng, jiālǐ méiyǒu cháishāo, bànyè lái wǒjiā jiè le yìkǔn chái.
Ha ha, I almost forgot! She was little Hong from next door. Her family had no firewood, so she came at midnight to borrow a bundle.
- Baoyu 就这样？我还以为是神仙呢！
Jiù zhèyàng? Wǒ hái yǐwéi shì shénxiān ne!
Is that all? I thought she was an immortal!
- Granny Liu 世上的神仙不多，好心人倒很多。我给了她一碗热汤，她笑得比神仙还美。
Shìshàng de shénxiān bù duō, hǎoxīnrén dào hěnduō. Wǒ gěi le tā yìwǎn rètāng, tā xiào dé bǐ shénxiān hái měi.
Immortals are rare, but kind people are many. I gave her a bowl of hot soup, and her smile was lovelier than any immortal's.
- Grandmother Jia 好一个刘姥姥，来，这里有几匹布、几盒点心，还有一包银子，你都带回去。
Hǎo yí gè Liú lǎolao, lái, zhèlǐ yǒu jǐpǐ bù, jǐhé diǎnxin, háiyǒu yìbāo yínzi, nǐ dōu dàihuíqù.
What a woman, Granny Liu. Come, here are some bolts of cloth, boxes of pastries, and a pouch of silver. Take it all home.
- Granny Liu 老太太，我一个老太婆，怎么受得起这么多好东西？
Lǎotàitai, wǒ yí gè lǎotàipó, zěnme shòudé qǐ zhème duōhǎo dōngxi?
Old lady, how can an old woman like me accept so many good things?
- Grandmother Jia 拿着，别再说了，回去给孩子们做冬衣，也让板儿多吃点儿好东西。
Ná zhe, bié zàishuō le, huíqù gěi háizi men zuò dōngyī, yě ràng Bǎn'ér duō chī diǎnr hǎo dōngxi.
Take them and say no more. Make winter clothes for the children, and let Banger eat more good food.
- Granny Liu 我这一辈子，遇到的最好的人，就是你们，回去以后，我天天都会想着这座园子。
Wǒ zhè yí bèizi, yùdào de zuìhǎo de rén, jiùshì nǐmen, huíqù yǐhòu, wǒ tiāntiān dōu huì xiǎngzhe zhèzuò yuánzi.
In my whole life, the best people I've met are all of you. Once I'm home, I'll think of this garden every day.
- Grandmother Jia 好，明年秋天，我们全家都等着你和你的大瓜。
Hǎo, míngnián qiūtiān, wǒmen quánjiā dōu děng zhe nǐ hé nǐ de dàguā.
Good. Next autumn, our whole family will be waiting for you and your big melons.
- Baoyu 刘姥姥，明年您再来，我们一起去划船，一起吃鸽子蛋！
Liú lǎolao, míngnián nín zài lái, wǒmen yìqǐ qù huáchuán, yìqǐ chī gēzi dàn!
Granny Liu, come again next year, and we'll row a boat together and eat pigeon eggs together!
- Granny Liu 鸽子蛋就算了，我怕再追它一辈子！不过明年秋天，我一定带最大的瓜来！
Gēzi dàn jiùsuàn le, wǒpà zài zhuī tā yí bèizi! Búguò míngnián qiūtiān, wǒ yídìng dài zuìdà de guālái!
Forget the pigeon eggs, I'd chase them for the rest of my life! But next autumn, I promise to bring the biggest melons!
