Read what you hear
Shèng Yuēhàn zǒu le yǐhòu, Mò'ěrdùn xià qǐ le dàxuě. Xuě xià le yí yè, yòu xià le yì tiān.
After St. John left, a heavy snow began to fall on Morton. It snowed all night, and all the next day.
- Jane Eyre
Zuótiān nà zhāng zhǐ, tā cóng biān shang nòng xià yì xiǎo tiáo, dàizǒu le. Shàngbian dàodǐ yǒu shénme?
That sheet of paper yesterday: he tore a little strip off its edge and took it away. What on earth was on it?
- Jane Eyre
Jiǎn Ài, bié xiǎng le, kàn nǐ de shū ba.
Jane Eyre, stop thinking about it. Read your book.

- Jane Eyre
Lǐfúsī xiānsheng! Zhème wǎn le, xuě yòu zhème dà, chū shénme shì le?
Mr. Rivers! So late, and in all this snow? Has something happened?
- St. John
Shénme shì yě méiyǒu. Wǒ lái gěi nǐ jiǎng yí gè gùshi.
Nothing has happened. I've come to tell you a story.
More than twenty years ago, a clergyman with no money fell in love with a rich young lady.
- St. John
Tā jiā li de rén dōu bù xǐhuan tā, tā háishi jià gěi le tā.
Her family didn't like him; she married him all the same.
Méi guò duō jiǔ, liǎng gè rén dōu sǐ le, liúxià yí gè xiǎo nǚ'ér.
Before long they both died, leaving a little daughter.
Tā de jiùmā Lǐdé tàitai bǎ tā dài dà, sòng tā qù le Luówòdé.
Her aunt, Mrs. Reed, brought her up and sent her to Lowood.
- Jane Eyre
Zhège gùshi, wǒ hǎoxiàng zài nǎr tīngguo.
I feel I've heard this story somewhere before.
Bā nián yǐhòu, tā qù Sāngfēi'ěrdé dāng jiātíng jiàoshī, chà yìdiǎnr jiù jiéhūn le.
Eight years later she went to Thornfield as a governess, and very nearly got married.
Hòulái, tā yèli yí gè rén líkāi le Sāngfēi'ěrdé. Lǜshī Bùlǐgésī xiānsheng dào xiànzài hái zài zhǎo tā.
Then one night she left Thornfield, alone. A lawyer, Mr. Briggs, is still looking for her.
Tā gěi wǒ xiě xìn shuō, tā jiào Jiǎn Ài. Nǐ kàn zhè yì xiǎo tiáo zhǐ.
He wrote to me that her name is Jane Eyre. Look at this little strip of paper.
- Jane Eyre
Shàngbian xiězhe “Jiǎn Ài”, shì wǒ zìjǐ xiě de.
It says “Jane Eyre.” I wrote it myself.
Suǒyǐ nà tiān nǐ shuō zìjǐ jiào Jiǎn Àilüètè de shíhou, tíng le yíxià.
So that's why you paused that day, when you said your name was Jane Elliott.
- Jane Eyre
Duì, wǒ jiù shì Jiǎn Ài. Luóqièsītè xiānsheng ne? Tā hái hǎo ma?
Yes, I am Jane Eyre. And Mr. Rochester? Is he all right?
Xìn li yí jù yě méi shuō dào tā. Nǐ yīnggāi wèn de shì, lǜshī wèishénme zhǎo nǐ.
The letter says not one word about him. You should be asking why the lawyer is looking for you.
Your uncle, John Eyre of Madeira, has died. He has left everything he had to you.
- Jane Eyre
Shūshu sǐ le? Wǒ yí cì yě méi jiànguo tā.
My uncle is dead? I never met him, not even once.
- St. John
Tā gěi nǐ liúxià le liǎng wàn yīngbàng.
He has left you twenty thousand pounds.
- Jane Eyre
Liǎng wàn? Nín shì bu shì shuō cuò le? Shì liǎng bǎi ba?
Twenty thousand? Did you misspeak? Surely it's two hundred?
- St. John
Liǎng wàn yīngbàng. Lǜshī bú huì xiě cuò, wǒ yě bú huì shuō cuò.
Twenty thousand pounds. Lawyers don't get these things wrong, and neither do I.
- Jane Eyre
Kěshì, Bùlǐgésī xiānsheng wèishénme gěi nín xiě xìn ne?
But why did Mr. Briggs write to you?
- St. John
Yīnwèi wǒmen de Yuēhàn jiùjiu, jiù shì nǐ de Yuēhàn shūshu.
Because our Uncle John is your Uncle John.
Jiǎn, wǒ shì nǐ de biǎogē, Dài'ānnà hé Mǎlì shì nǐ de biǎojiě.
Jane, I am your cousin, and Diana and Mary are your cousins.
- Jane Eyre
Wǒ yǒu biǎogē, hái yǒu liǎng gè biǎojiě! Wǒ bú shì yí gè rén le!
I have a cousin, and two more cousins! I'm not alone anymore!
- St. John
Jiǎn, nǐ kū shénme? Nǐ xiànzài yǒu qián le.
Jane, why are you crying? You're rich now.
- Jane Eyre
Wǒ yǒu jiā le! Yí gè rén wǔqiān yīngbàng! Jiào Dài'ānnà hé Mǎlì huí jiā!
I have a family! Five thousand pounds each! Tell Diana and Mary to come home!
