The coach traveled fifty miles. After dark, Jane reached the school at Lowood.
- Miss Temple 你是简·爱吧？我是坦普尔小姐。快进来，外边太冷了。
Nǐ shì Jiǎn Ài ba? Wǒ shì Tǎnpǔ'ěr xiǎojie. Kuài jìnlai, wàibian tài lěng le.
You must be Jane Eyre. I'm Miss Temple. Come in quickly, it's far too cold out here.
- Young Jane 这儿的早上真冷！窗户上都是冰，洗脸的水也变成冰了！

The mornings here are so cold! The windows are covered in ice, and the washing water has turned to ice too!
- Miss Temple 孩子们，今天的早饭太难吃了。中午我请大家吃面包。
Háizimen, jīntiān de zǎofàn tài nánchī le. Zhōngwǔ wǒ qǐng dàjiā chī miànbāo.
Girls, today's breakfast is too awful to eat. At noon, I'll give you all bread.
- Young Jane 花园里都是雪，还有人在这儿看书？这本书好看吗？
Huāyuán li dōu shì xuě, hái yǒu rén zài zhèr kàn shū? Zhè běn shū hǎokàn ma?
The garden is full of snow, and someone is out here reading? Is that book good?
- Helen Burns 很好看。我叫海伦·彭斯。你是新来的吧？
Hěn hǎokàn. Wǒ jiào Hǎilún Péngsī. Nǐ shì xīn lái de ba?
Yes, it is. My name is Helen Burns. You're new, aren't you?
- Young Jane 我叫简。海伦，这是什么学校？为什么大家又冷又饿？
Wǒ jiào Jiǎn. Hǎilún, zhè shì shénme xuéxiào? Wèishénme dàjiā yòu lěng yòu è?
I'm Jane. Helen, what kind of school is this? Why is everyone cold and hungry?

Burns! Why are your hands so dirty? You'll be punished!

She hit Helen! But the water was all ice this morning. How could Helen wash her hands?
- Young Jane 海伦，她打你，你为什么不哭？如果我是你，我就打回去！
Hǎilún, tā dǎ nǐ, nǐ wèishénme bù kū? Rúguǒ wǒ shì nǐ, wǒ jiù dǎ huíqu!
Helen, she hit you, so why didn't you cry? If I were you, I'd hit her back!
- Helen Burns 斯卡查德小姐不喜欢我。可是上帝说，要爱对我们不好的人。
Sīkǎchádé xiǎojie bù xǐhuan wǒ. Kěshì Shàngdì shuō, yào ài duì wǒmen bù hǎo de rén.
Miss Scatcherd doesn't like me. But God says we must love those who treat us badly.
- Young Jane 爱她？我做不到。
Ài tā? Wǒ zuò bu dào.
Love her? I could never do that.
- Narrator 三个星期以后，布罗克赫斯特先生带着太太和女儿们来了。

Three weeks later, Mr. Brocklehurst came, with his wife and daughters.
- Young Jane 是那个牧师！我不敢看他，就躲在我的小黑板后边。
Shì nàge mùshī! Wǒ bù gǎn kàn tā, jiù duǒ zài wǒ de xiǎo hēibǎn hòubian.
It's that clergyman! I don't dare look at him, so I hide behind my slate.
- Mr. Brocklehurst 坦普尔小姐，你为什么给她们面包？饿一点儿，对她们的心有好处！
Tǎnpǔ'ěr xiǎojie, nǐ wèishénme gěi tāmen miànbāo? È yìdiǎnr, duì tāmen de xīn yǒu hǎochu!
Miss Temple, why did you give them bread? A little hunger is good for their souls!
- Miss Temple 先生，那天的早饭不能吃，孩子们太饿了。
Xiānsheng, nà tiān de zǎofàn bù néng chī, háizimen tài è le.
Sir, the breakfast that day was not fit to eat, and the girls were far too hungry.
- Mr. Brocklehurst 还有，那个女孩的头发太漂亮了！这里谁也不能爱漂亮！
Hái yǒu, nàge nǚhái de tóufa tài piàoliang le! Zhèlǐ shéi yě bù néng ài piàoliang!
And that girl's hair is far too pretty! No one here may care about looking pretty!
- Young Jane 可是他的太太和女儿们，衣服多漂亮，头发多漂亮！
Kěshì tā de tàitai hé nǚ'érmen, yīfu duō piàoliang, tóufa duō piàoliang!
But look at his wife and daughters: such pretty clothes, such pretty hair!
- Mr. Brocklehurst 谁的小黑板掉了？那个新来的女孩，过来！
Shéi de xiǎo hēibǎn diào le? Nàge xīn lái de nǚhái, guòlai!
Whose slate fell? That new girl, come here!
- Young Jane 他知道我是谁。里德太太一定什么都告诉他了……
Tā zhīdào wǒ shì shéi. Lǐdé tàitai yídìng shénme dōu gàosu tā le…
He knows who I am. Mrs. Reed must have told him everything...
- Mr. Brocklehurst 站到凳子上！大家看着她：这个孩子是个骗子！
Zhàn dào dèngzi shang! Dàjiā kànzhe tā: zhège háizi shì ge piànzi!
Stand on that stool! Everyone, look at her: this child is a liar!
- Mr. Brocklehurst 我罚她站半个小时。今天谁也不能跟她说话！
Wǒ fá tā zhàn bàn gè xiǎoshí. Jīntiān shéi yě bù néng gēn tā shuōhuà!
Her punishment is to stand there for half an hour. And today no one may speak to her!
- Young Jane 我站在凳子上，所有的人都在看我。我的脸好热，我好想哭。
Wǒ zhàn zài dèngzi shang, suǒyǒu de rén dōu zài kàn wǒ. Wǒ de liǎn hǎo rè, wǒ hǎo xiǎng kū.
I'm standing on the stool, and everyone is looking at me. My face is burning, and I want to cry.
- Young Jane 海伦从我前边走过……她看着我，对我微笑了。

Helen walks past in front of me... She looks up at me, and she smiles.
- Young Jane 我不是骗子。我不怕了。
Wǒ bú shì piànzi. Wǒ bú pà le.
I am not a liar. I'm not afraid anymore.
