  1. Mrs. Fairfax

Ài xiǎojie, wǒ hěn dānxīn nǐ. Yǒu qián de xiānsheng, hěn shǎo gēn jiātíng jiàoshī jiéhūn.

Miss Eyre, I'm worried for you. Rich gentlemen seldom marry their governesses.

  2. Mrs. Fairfax

Qīn'ài de, nǐ yào hǎohǎo xiǎng yi xiǎng. Bié lí tā tài jìn.

My dear, think it over carefully. Don't get too close to him.

Xiǎo Jiǎn, wǒ yào gěi nǐ mǎi hěn guì de dōngxi, háiyǒu zuì piàoliang de yīfu!

Janet, I'm going to buy you the costliest things, and the most beautiful dresses!

  4. Jane Eyre

Xiānsheng, wǒ bú yào. Liǎng jiàn yīfu jiù gòu le.

Sir, I don't want them. Two dresses will be enough.

Liǎng jiàn! Nǐ yào chuān de xiàng gè guǎnjiā ma?

Two! Do you want to dress like a housekeeper?

  6. Jane Eyre

Wǒ hái shì Ādài'ěr de jiātíng jiàoshī, xiānsheng. Yì nián sānshí yīngbàng, yì yīngbàng yě bù néng shǎo.

I'm still Adele's governess, sir. Thirty pounds a year, and not one pound less.

Hǎo ba, wǒ de jiātíng jiàoshī. Xiànzài guòlai, qīn wǒ yíxià.

Very well, my governess. Now come here and give me a kiss.

  8. Jane Eyre

Bù xíng, xiānsheng. Jiātíng jiàoshī bù qīn zhǔrén.

No, sir. Governesses don't kiss their masters.

  9. Jane Eyre

Shūshu, wǒ shì Jiǎn Ài. Wǒ yào hé Luóqièsītè xiānsheng jiéhūn le…

Uncle, this is Jane Eyre. I am going to marry Mr. Rochester...

  10. Jane Eyre

Rúguǒ wǒ yě yǒu yìdiǎnr zìjǐ de qián, nà gāi duō hǎo.

If only I had a little money of my own.

Sì gè xīngqī guòqù le. Míngtiān, tāmen jiù yào jiéhūn le.

Four weeks went by. Tomorrow, they would be married.

  12. Jane Eyre

Fēng zhème dà… tā wǎnshang cái huílai. Wǒ qù kànkan nà kē lìzi shù.

Such a wind... and he won't be back till tonight. I'll go and see the chestnut tree.

  13. Jane Eyre

Lìzi shù duàn chéng le liǎng bàn… kěshì xiàbian hái lián zài yìqǐ.

The chestnut tree is split in two... but down at the bottom, the halves are still joined.

Xiǎo Jiǎn! Zhème wǎn le, nǐ hái zài wàibian?

Janet! This late, and you're still outside?

  15. Jane Eyre

Xiānsheng, wǒ yào gàosu nín yí jiàn shì. Zuótiān yèli, wǒ xǐng le.

Sir, I must tell you something. Last night, I woke up.

  16. Jane Eyre

Fángjiān li yǒu làzhú de guāng, hái yǒu yí gè hěn gāo de nǚrén zhàn zài nàr.

There was candlelight in my room, and a very tall woman was standing there.

Yí gè nǚrén? Shénmeyàng de nǚrén?

A woman? What sort of woman?

  18. Jane Eyre

Tā de tóufa hěn cháng, hěn hēi. Tā ná qǐ nín gěi wǒ de miànshā, fàng zài tóu shang.

Her hair was long and dark. She took the veil you gave me and put it on her head.

  19. Jane Eyre

Tā zài jìngzi qián kàn le hěn jiǔ. Ránhòu, tā bǎ miànshā lā chéng le liǎng bàn!

She looked in the mirror for a long time. Then she tore the veil in two!

In the mirror... did you see her face?

  21. Jane Eyre

Kànjiàn le. Nàyàng de liǎn, wǒ yǐqián méi jiànguo.

I did. I had never seen a face like that before.

  22. Jane Eyre

Tā názhe làzhú, lí wǒ de liǎn hěn jìn. Hòulái, wǒ jiù shénme dōu bù zhīdào le.

She held the candle close to my face. After that, I knew nothing more.

  23. Jane Eyre

    Xiānsheng, nà bú shì Gélěisī.

    Sir, it was not Grace.

Yíbàn shì mèng, yíbàn shì zhēn de. Nà yídìng shì Gélěisī Pǔ'ěr.

Half a dream, half real. It must have been Grace Poole.

Jīntiān yèli, nǐ qù Ādài'ěr de fángjiān shuì.

Tonight, you'll sleep in Adele's room.

  26. Jane Eyre

Wèishénme, xiānsheng? Nín dàodǐ zài pà shénme?

Why, sir? What are you really afraid of?

Děng wǒmen jiéhūn yì nián líng yì tiān yǐhòu, wǒ zài gàosu nǐ wèishénme. Xiànzài bù xíng.

When we've been married a year and a day, I'll tell you why. Not now.
