Thornfield's Secret

From the church Mr. Rochester leads them all up to the dark third floor. Behind one more door, Jane will see what Thornfield has been hiding.

In the church, Briggs the lawyer still held that sheet of paper.

One sheet of paper, a few words... He has a wife, and she lives at Thornfield.

Sān lóu. Wǔdé, nǐ shì mùshī, nǐ děi kànkan.
The third floor. Wood, you're a clergyman. You need to see this.
- Narrator 三楼很黑。他们走进了最里边的小房间。那儿没有窗户。
Sān lóu hěn hēi. Tāmen zǒu jìn le zuì lǐbian de xiǎo fángjiān. Nàr méiyǒu chuānghu.
The third floor was dark. They went into the small room at the very back. It had no window.
- Mr. Rochester 格蕾丝，她今天怎么样？
Gélěisī, tā jīntiān zěnmeyàng?
Grace, how is she today?
- Grace Poole 还好，先生。可是今天您别离她太近。
Hái hǎo, xiānsheng. Kěshì jīntiān nín bié lí tā tài jìn.
Not too bad, sir. But don't get too close to her today.
- Jane Eyre 火边还有一个人……很高，很大，头发又黑又长。
Huǒ biān hái yǒu yí gè rén… hěn gāo, hěn dà, tóufa yòu hēi yòu cháng.
There's someone else by the fire... very tall, very big, with long black hair.
- Mr. Mason 罗切斯特，小心！她会咬人！
Luóqièsītè, xiǎoxīn! Tā huì yǎo rén!
Rochester, be careful! She bites!
- Narrator 那个女人跑过来，一口咬在罗切斯特先生的脸上。

The woman rushed at Mr. Rochester and bit him on the cheek.

Don't anyone hit her! Grace, help me.
- Narrator 他和格蕾丝让她坐在椅子上，不让她动。

He and Grace sat her down in a chair and held her still.
- Mr. Rochester 你们都看见了。这就是我的妻子，伯莎。她疯了。
Nǐmen dōu kànjiàn le. Zhè jiù shì wǒ de qīzi, Bóshā. Tā fēng le.
You have all seen her. This is my wife, Bertha. She is mad.
- Mr. Rochester 再看看简。我想要的，就是她。
Zài kànkan Jiǎn. Wǒ xiǎng yào de, jiù shì tā.
Now look at Jane. She is all I wanted.
- Jane Eyre 这张脸……我见过！那天夜里拿着我面纱的，就是她！
Zhè zhāng liǎn… wǒ jiànguo! Nà tiān yèli názhe wǒ miànshā de, jiù shì tā!
That face... I've seen it! She's the one who held my veil that night!
- Mr. Rochester 现在你们都知道我的秘密了。都出去吧！
Xiànzài nǐmen dōu zhīdào wǒ de mìmì le. Dōu chūqu ba!
Now you all know my secret. Get out, all of you!
- Mr. Briggs 爱小姐，请等一下。我得告诉您一件事。
Ài xiǎojie, qǐng děng yíxià. Wǒ děi gàosu nín yí jiàn shì.
Miss Eyre, one moment, please. There is something I must tell you.
- Jane Eyre 先生，您认识我？
Xiānsheng, nín rènshi wǒ?
You know me, sir?
- Mr. Briggs 是您的叔叔约翰·爱先生让我来的。
Shì nín de shūshu Yuēhàn Ài xiānsheng ràng wǒ lái de.
Your uncle, Mr. John Eyre, sent me.

When your letter reached Madeira, Mr. Mason happened to be with him.

My uncle... why didn't he come himself?
- Mr. Briggs 他病得很重。医生说，他的时间不多了。

He is very ill. The doctor says he does not have much time left.
- Narrator 他们走了。简回到自己的房间，锁上了门。

They left. Jane went back to her room and locked the door.
- Jane Eyre 昨天，我还在等着结婚。今天，什么都没有了。
Zuótiān, wǒ hái zài děngzhe jiéhūn. Jīntiān, shénme dōu méiyǒu le.
Yesterday I was still waiting to be married. Today I have nothing.
- Jane Eyre 闪电一来，栗子树就断了。我的心也一样。
Shǎndiàn yì lái, lìzi shù jiù duàn le. Wǒ de xīn yě yíyàng.
The lightning came, and the chestnut tree broke. So did my heart.
- Jane Eyre 已经是下午了……我不能一直坐在这儿。
Yǐjīng shì xiàwǔ le… wǒ bù néng yìzhí zuò zài zhèr.
It's afternoon already... I can't sit here forever.
- Mr. Rochester 你出来了。我在门外坐了很久。
Nǐ chūlai le. Wǒ zài mén wài zuò le hěn jiǔ.
You've come out. I've been sitting outside your door a long time.
- Jane Eyre 先生……您一直在这儿？
Xiānsheng… nín yìzhí zài zhèr?
Sir... you've been here all along?
