A Pig, a Dragon and a Monkey
猪、龙和猴子
On Guanyin's road east wait a pig with a rake, a dragon hanging in the sky and a monkey under a mountain. Each of them begs for one more chance.

- Narrator 福陵山上，长嘴妖怪跳来跳去，和木叉打了起来。
Fúlíng Shān shàng, cháng zuǐ yāoguài tiào lái tiào qù, hé Mùchā dǎ le qǐlai.
On Fuling Mountain, the long-snouted monster leapt this way and that, fighting Muzha.
- Zhu Bajie 哪里来的和尚，敢打老猪！
Nǎlǐ lái de héshang, gǎn dǎ Lǎo Zhū!
Where did you monks come from? How dare you fight Old Zhu!
- Narrator 忽然，天上掉下很多花，正好掉在钉耙和木叉中间。
Hūrán, tiānshàng diào xià hěn duō huā, zhènghǎo diào zài dīngpá hé Mùchā zhōngjiān.
Suddenly flowers rained down from the sky, right between the rake and Muzha.
- Muzha 别打了！我师父是观音菩萨！
Bié dǎ le! Wǒ shīfu shì Guānyīn Púsà!
Stop! My master is Guanyin!
- Zhu Bajie 观音菩萨？不打了，不打了！老猪给菩萨跪下！
Guānyīn Púsà? Bù dǎ le, bù dǎ le! Lǎo Zhū gěi Púsà guìxià!
Guanyin? No more fighting, no more! Old Zhu kneels to the Bodhisattva!
- Guanyin 你是谁？怎么是这个样子？
Nǐ shì shéi? Zěnme shì zhège yàngzi?
Who are you? And why do you look like that?
- Zhu Bajie 老猪以前是天上的天蓬元帅！那天喝多了酒，跟嫦娥说了几句不好的话……
Lǎo Zhū yǐqián shì tiānshàng de Tiānpéng Yuánshuài! Nà tiān hē duō le jiǔ, gēn Cháng'é shuō le jǐ jù bù hǎo de huà…

- Zhu Bajie 玉帝让人打了我两千下，让我到地上去做人。
Yùdì ràng rén dǎ le wǒ liǎngqiān xià, ràng wǒ dào dì shàng qù zuò rén.
The Jade Emperor had me beaten two thousand times and sent me down to earth to be born a man.
- Muzha 做人？那你怎么是猪？
Zuò rén? Nà nǐ zěnme shì zhū?
A man? Then how come you're a pig?
- Zhu Bajie 老猪走错了门！
Lǎo Zhū zǒu cuò le mén!
Old Zhu went through the wrong door!
- Guanyin 你在这山上，吃过人吗？
Nǐ zài zhè shān shàng, chīguo rén ma?
Here on this mountain, have you eaten people?
- Zhu Bajie 吃……吃过几个。老猪的洞就在前边，叫云栈洞。
Chī… chīguo jǐ gè. Lǎo Zhū de dòng jiù zài qiánbian, jiào Yúnzhàn Dòng.
A... a few. Old Zhu's cave is just up ahead. It's called Cloud-Path Cave.
- Guanyin 从今天起，不能再吃人了。
Cóng jīntiān qǐ, bù néng zài chī rén le.
From today on, you will eat no more people.
- Zhu Bajie 不吃人？那你叫我喝风吗？
Bù chī rén? Nà nǐ jiào wǒ hē fēng ma?
No more people? So what do I eat, the wind?
- Guanyin 饿了，就吃米饭和青菜。你叫猪悟能，在这里等取经人，做他的徒弟。
È le, jiù chī mǐfàn hé qīngcài. Nǐ jiào Zhū Wùnéng, zài zhèlǐ děng qǔjīngrén, zuò tā de túdì.
When you're hungry, eat rice and greens. Your name is Zhu Wuneng. Wait here for the pilgrim, and be his disciple.
- Zhu Bajie 好吧，老猪等取经人。可是只吃米饭……吃得饱吗？
Hǎo ba, Lǎo Zhū děng qǔjīngrén. Kěshì zhǐ chī mǐfàn… chī de bǎo ma?
All right, Old Zhu will wait for the pilgrim. But only rice... will that ever fill me up?
- Narrator 观音和木叉又往东赶路。天上，挂着一条白色的龙。
Guānyīn hé Mùchā yòu wǎng dōng gǎnlù. Tiānshàng, guàzhe yì tiáo báisè de lóng.
Guanyin and Muzha went on east. Up in the sky hung a white dragon.
- Little White Dragon 菩萨，救救我！
Púsà, jiùjiu wǒ!
Bodhisattva, save me!
- Muzha 你是谁？为什么挂在天上？
Nǐ shì shéi? Wèishénme guà zài tiānshàng?
Who are you? Why are you hanging up in the sky?
- Little White Dragon 我是西海龙王的儿子。我烧了爸爸的宝贝……全烧了。玉帝要我死！
Wǒ shì Xī Hǎi Lóngwáng de érzi. Wǒ shāo le bàba de bǎobèi… quán shāo le. Yùdì yào wǒ sǐ!
I'm the son of the Dragon King of the Western Sea. I burned my father's treasures... every one of them. Now the Jade Emperor wants me dead!
- Narrator 观音去见了玉帝。玉帝说：“好，就听菩萨的。”
Guānyīn qù jiàn le Yùdì. Yùdì shuō: “Hǎo, jiù tīng Púsà de.”
Guanyin went to see the Jade Emperor, and the Jade Emperor said, “Very well. As the Bodhisattva wishes.”
- Guanyin 小白龙，你去鹰愁涧等取经人。他来了，你就变成马，让他骑着去西天。
Xiǎo Báilóng, nǐ qù Yīngchóu Jiàn děng qǔjīngrén. Tā lái le, nǐ jiù biànchéng mǎ, ràng tā qízhe qù Xītiān.
Little White Dragon, go to Eagle Grief Ravine and wait for the pilgrim. When he comes, turn into a horse and carry him to the Western Heaven.
- Little White Dragon 什么？我是龙！让我做马？
Shénme? Wǒ shì lóng! Ràng wǒ zuò mǎ?
What? I'm a dragon! You want me to be a horse?
- Guanyin 做马，比死好吧？
Zuò mǎ, bǐ sǐ hǎo ba?
Being a horse beats being dead, doesn't it?
- Little White Dragon 好吧，好吧……我等取经人。
Hǎo ba, hǎo ba… wǒ děng qǔjīngrén.
Fine, fine... I'll wait for the pilgrim.
- Narrator 他们来到五行山。山下有一只猴子，头上都是草。
Tāmen lái dào Wǔxíng Shān. Shān xià yǒu yì zhī hóuzi, tóu shàng dōu shì cǎo.
They came to the Five Elements Mountain. Under it lay a monkey with grass all over his head.
- Sun Wukong 是观音菩萨吗？菩萨！救救老孙！老孙知道错了！
Shì Guānyīn Púsà ma? Púsà! Jiùjiu Lǎo Sūn! Lǎo Sūn zhīdào cuò le!
Is that Guanyin? Bodhisattva! Save Old Sun! Old Sun knows he did wrong!
- Guanyin 你这猴子，还是这么大声。会有一个取经人来救你，你跟他去西天吧。
Nǐ zhè hóuzi, háishi zhème dàshēng. Huì yǒu yí gè qǔjīngrén lái jiù nǐ, nǐ gēn tā qù Xītiān ba.
You monkey, as loud as ever. A pilgrim will come to free you. Then go west with him.
- Sun Wukong 好！谁救老孙，老孙就跟谁走！我孙悟空，说到做到！
Hǎo! Shéi jiù Lǎo Sūn, Lǎo Sūn jiù gēn shéi zǒu! Wǒ Sūn Wùkōng, shuō dào zuò dào!
Done! Whoever frees Old Sun, Old Sun follows! I, Sun Wukong, keep my word!
- Muzha 孙悟空？悟净，悟能，悟空……三个名字，像一家人！
Sūn Wùkōng? Wùjìng, Wùnéng, Wùkōng… sān gè míngzi, xiàng yì jiā rén!
Sun Wukong? Wujing, Wuneng, Wukong... three names that sound like one family!
- Narrator 后来，观音收起金光，和木叉变成两个又老又脏的和尚，走进了长安。
Hòulái, Guānyīn shōu qǐ jīnguāng, hé Mùchā biànchéng liǎng gè yòu lǎo yòu zāng de héshang, zǒu jìn le Cháng'ān.
Later, Guanyin hid her golden light, and she and Muzha became two old, dirty monks and walked into Chang'an.
- Guanyin 他就在这里。他是谁？我要好好看看。
Tā jiù zài zhèlǐ. Tā shì shéi? Wǒ yào hǎohǎo kànkan.
He's here, somewhere. Who is he? I want a good look at him.
