Cosette has grown up, and Valjean has never been so happy or so afraid. Then a shy student begins to visit the park, and a letter falls into Valjean's hands.

Shí nián guòqù le. Kēsàitè zhǎng dà le, shì yí wèi piàoliang de gūniang. Tā hé bàba zhù zài Bālí yí zuò yǒu huāyuán de xiǎo fángzi lǐ, guò zhe ānjìng de rìzi.
Ten years passed. Cosette grew into a lovely young woman. She and her father lived in a small house with a garden in Paris, and their days were quiet.
- Cosette 爸爸，你又把那两个银烛台擦了一遍！它们比我的脸还亮，比星星还亮！
Bàba, nǐ yòu bǎ nà liǎng gè yín zhútái cā le yí biàn! Tāmen bǐ wǒ de liǎn hái liàng, bǐ xīngxing hái liàng!
Papa, you've polished those silver candlesticks again! They're shinier than my face, shinier than the stars!
- Jean Valjean 它们比金子还重要。你要记住，不许弄丢。
Tāmen bǐ jīnzi hái zhòngyào. Nǐ yào jìzhù, bù xǔ nòng diū.
They matter more than gold. Remember, you must never lose them.

- Jean Valjean 一百遍？那我再说一百遍。
Yì bǎi biàn? Nà wǒ zài shuō yì bǎi biàn.
A hundred times? Then I'll tell you a hundred more.
- Cosette 爸爸……我今天在公园里，看见一个年轻人。
Bàba…… wǒ jīntiān zài gōngyuán lǐ, kànjiàn yí gè niánqīng rén.
Papa... today in the park I saw a young man.
- Jean Valjean 年轻人？哪个年轻人？他叫什么？他多大？他在看你吗？
Niánqīng rén? Nǎge niánqīng rén? Tā jiào shénme? Tā duō dà? Tā zài kàn nǐ ma?
A young man? Which young man? What's his name? How old is he? Was he looking at you?
- Cosette 爸爸！你问得比警察还多！
Bàba! Nǐ wèn de bǐ jǐngchá hái duō!
Papa! You ask more questions than a policeman!
- Jean Valjean 警察问得少，我问得多，因为我比警察更爱你。
Jǐngchá wèn de shǎo, wǒ wèn de duō, yīnwèi wǒ bǐ jǐngchá gèng ài nǐ.
The police ask fewer questions than I do, because I love you more than any policeman could.
- Jean Valjean 我只是担心。你是我唯一的孩子，我不想让别人把你带走。
Wǒ zhǐshì dānxīn. Nǐ shì wǒ wéiyī de háizi, wǒ bù xiǎng ràng biérén bǎ nǐ dài zǒu.
I'm only worried. You are my only child, and I don't want anyone to take you away.
- Cosette 我永远是你的女儿，谁也带不走我。可是……他有一双很温柔的眼睛。
Wǒ yǒngyuǎn shì nǐ de nǚ'ér, shéi yě dài bù zǒu wǒ. Kěshì…… tā yǒu yì shuāng hěn wēnróu de yǎnjing.
I will always be your daughter, and no one can take me away. But... he has such gentle eyes.
- Jean Valjean 她长大了。我怎么能一直把她留在身边呢？
Tā zhǎng dà le. Wǒ zěnme néng yìzhí bǎ tā liú zài shēnbiān ne?
She has grown up. How can I keep her by my side forever?
- Jean Valjean 好吧。明天你去公园，看看他吧。不过我要在远处看着，我可是一个爸爸！
Hǎo ba. Míngtiān nǐ qù gōngyuán, kànkan tā ba. Búguò wǒ yào zài yuǎnchù kàn zhe, wǒ kěshì yí gè bàba!
All right. Tomorrow, go to the park and see him. But I'll be watching from far away. I'm a father, after all!
- Cosette 爸爸，我爱你！
Bàba, wǒ ài nǐ!
Papa, I love you!
- Marius 她来了……她真的来了。我该说什么？
Tā lái le…… tā zhēn de lái le. Wǒ gāi shuō shénme?
She came... she really came. What do I say?
- Cosette 你好。你每天都在这里看书吗？
Nǐ hǎo. Nǐ měi tiān dōu zài zhèlǐ kàn shū ma?
Hello. Do you read here every day?
- Marius 我……是的！不是！我是说，我每天都在这里，可是我没有看书。我在看……树。
Wǒ…… shì de! Bú shì! Wǒ shì shuō, wǒ měi tiān dōu zài zhèlǐ, kěshì wǒ méiyǒu kàn shū. Wǒ zài kàn…… shù.
I... yes! No! I mean, I'm here every day, but I'm not reading. I'm looking at... the trees.

- Marius 啊！……我叫马吕斯。我是一个学生，我在念法律。
Á!…… Wǒ jiào Mǎlǚsī. Wǒ shì yí gè xuésheng, wǒ zài niàn fǎlǜ.
Oh! ... My name is Marius. I'm a student. I study law.
- Cosette 你住在哪里？
Nǐ zhù zài nǎlǐ?
Where do you live?
- Marius 在一个很小的房间里。我很穷，可是窗外有很多星星。
Zài yí gè hěn xiǎo de fángjiān lǐ. Wǒ hěn qióng, kěshì chuāngwài yǒu hěn duō xīngxing.
In a very small room. I'm poor, but outside my window there are many stars.
- Cosette 我叫珂赛特。你的朋友们，他们在说什么？
Wǒ jiào Kēsàitè. Nǐ de péngyoumen, tāmen zài shuō shénme?
I'm Cosette. What are your friends talking about?
- Marius 他们说，国王不好，穷人太苦。明天，街上会有大事。
Tāmen shuō, guówáng bù hǎo, qióngrén tài kǔ. Míngtiān, jiē shang huì yǒu dà shì.
They say the king is unfair and the poor suffer too much. Tomorrow something big will happen in the streets.
- Cosette 大事？会不会有危险？你的朋友们想做什么？
Dà shì? Huì bú huì yǒu wēixiǎn? Nǐ de péngyoumen xiǎng zuò shénme?
Something big? Will it be dangerous? What do your friends want to do?
- Marius 也许。可是我今天来，就是想告诉你一件事：我……喜欢你。
Yěxǔ. Kěshì wǒ jīntiān lái, jiù shì xiǎng gàosu nǐ yí jiàn shì: wǒ…… xǐhuan nǐ.
Maybe. But I came today to tell you one thing: I... like you.
- Cosette 我……也是。你要小心，马吕斯。请你一定回来。
Wǒ…… yě shì. Nǐ yào xiǎoxīn, Mǎlǚsī. Qǐng nǐ yídìng huílái.
I... like you too. Be careful, Marius. Please come back.
- Marius 我会小心的。明天以后，我再来。
Wǒ huì xiǎoxīn de. Míngtiān yǐhòu, wǒ zài lái.
I will. After tomorrow, I'll come again.
- Narrator 深夜，冉阿让在花园里捡到一张小纸，带回了房间。
Shēnyè, Rǎn Ā'ràng zài huāyuán lǐ jiǎn dào yì zhāng xiǎo zhǐ, dài huí le fángjiān.
Late at night, Valjean found a small piece of paper in the garden and took it to his room.
- Jean Valjean “明天，我们要在街上堆起街垒。如果我回不来，请不要为我哭。我永远爱她。——马吕斯”
“Míngtiān, wǒmen yào zài jiē shang duī qǐ jiēlěi. Rúguǒ wǒ huí bù lái, qǐng bú yào wèi wǒ kū. Wǒ yǒngyuǎn ài tā. —— Mǎlǚsī”
"Tomorrow we will build a barricade in the street. If I don't come back, please don't cry for me. I will love her always. — Marius"
- Jean Valjean 街垒……那是打仗的地方。
Jiēlěi…… nà shì dǎzhàng de dìfang.
A barricade... that is where fighting happens.
- Jean Valjean 那个年轻人，才二十岁出头，还没有真正开始生活。他要是回不来，珂赛特会哭一辈子。
Nàge niánqīng rén, cái èrshí suì chūtóu, hái méiyǒu zhēnzhèng kāishǐ shēnghuó. Tā yàoshi huí bù lái, Kēsàitè huì kū yíbèizi.
That young man is barely twenty and has hardly begun to live. If he doesn't come back, Cosette will cry for the rest of her life.
- Jean Valjean 而且沙威还在巴黎找我。我一出门，就有危险。
Érqiě Shāwēi hái zài Bālí zhǎo wǒ. Wǒ yì chūmén, jiù yǒu wēixiǎn.
And Javert is still looking for me in Paris. The moment I go out, I'm in danger.
- Jean Valjean 主教，您当年为我冒险。现在，我也应该为别人冒险。
Zhǔjiào, nín dāngnián wèi wǒ màoxiǎn. Xiànzài, wǒ yě yīnggāi wèi biérén màoxiǎn.
Bishop, you took a risk for me back then. Now I should take a risk for someone else.
- Jean Valjean 珂赛特，爸爸很快就回来。等着我，好吗？
Kēsàitè, bàba hěn kuài jiù huílái. Děng zhe wǒ, hǎo ma?
Cosette, Papa will be back soon. Wait for me, all right?
- Jean Valjean 我去。我会把他活着带回来。
Wǒ qù. Wǒ huì bǎ tā huó zhe dài huílái.
I'll go. I will bring him back alive.
