A poor old man is about to go to prison in Valjean's place. One quiet night, Valjean must decide who he really is.

Tomorrow they will send an innocent old man to prison for the rest of his life.
- Jean Valjean 如果我不说话，没有人会知道。我可以继续做市长，帮助工人，接回珂赛特，过安静的日子。
Rúguǒ wǒ bù shuōhuà, méiyǒu rén huì zhīdào. Wǒ kěyǐ jìxù zuò shìzhǎng, bāngzhù gōngrén, jiē huí Kēsàitè, guò ānjìng de rìzi.
If I say nothing, no one will know. I can stay mayor, help my workers, bring Cosette home, and live a quiet life.
- Jean Valjean 我做了这么多好事……我救过人，帮过穷人，还开了工厂。这些还不够吗？
Wǒ zuò le zhème duō hǎoshì…… wǒ jiù guo rén, bāng guo qióngrén, hái kāi le gōngchǎng. Zhèxiē hái bú gòu ma?
I've done so many good things... I saved people, helped the poor, and opened a factory. Isn't that enough?

Nín huì shuō: “Péngyou, qù shuō zhēnhuà.” Hǎo. Wǒ qù.
You would say, "Friend, go and tell the truth." All right. I'll go.

The next day the courtroom was full of people.
- The Judge 尚马蒂厄，你就是冉阿让。三个老囚犯都说，他们认得你。你还想说什么？
Shàngmǎdì'è, nǐ jiù shì Rǎn Ā'ràng. Sān gè lǎo qiúfàn dōu shuō, tāmen rènde nǐ. Nǐ hái xiǎng shuō shénme?
Champmathieu, you are Jean Valjean. Three old prisoners say they know you. What more do you have to say?
- Champmathieu 法官先生，我不是什么阿让！我五十多岁了，从来没有进过监狱！我只是一个修树的人！
Fǎguān xiānsheng, wǒ bú shì shénme Ā'ràng! Wǒ wǔshí duō suì le, cónglái méiyǒu jìn guo jiānyù! Wǒ zhǐshì yí gè xiū shù de rén!
Your honor, I am no Valjean! I'm over fifty and I've never been in prison! I only trim trees!
- Champmathieu 我什么也没做！谁来帮帮我啊！
Wǒ shénme yě méi zuò! Shéi lái bāngbang wǒ a!
I haven't done anything! Won't somebody help me!
- Jean Valjean 等一下。大家看看我。
Děng yíxià. Dàjiā kànkan wǒ.
Wait. Everyone, look at me.
- Jean Valjean 这个人不是冉阿让。我才是。
Zhège rén bú shì Rǎn Ā'ràng. Wǒ cái shì.
This man is not Jean Valjean. I am.
- The Judge 市长先生？您……您在说什么？
Shìzhǎng xiānsheng? Nín…… nín zài shuō shénme?
Mr. Mayor? What... what are you saying?
- Jean Valjean 我偷过一块面包，坐了十九年牢。我还偷过一位主教的银盘子，他却把烛台也送给了我。这么多年，我一直用另一个名字活着。
Wǒ tōu guo yí kuài miànbāo, zuò le shíjiǔ nián láo. Wǒ hái tōu guo yí wèi zhǔjiào de yín pánzi, tā què bǎ zhútái yě sòng gěi le wǒ. Zhème duō nián, wǒ yìzhí yòng lìng yí gè míngzi huó zhe.
I stole a loaf of bread and served nineteen years. I also stole a bishop's silver plates, and he gave me his candlesticks too. All these years I have lived under another name.
- Jean Valjean 放了这位老人吧。他没有做错任何事。
Fàng le zhè wèi lǎorén ba. Tā méiyǒu zuò cuò rènhé shì.
Let this old man go. He has done nothing wrong.
- Jean Valjean 你们知道我住在哪里。三天以后，我自己来。现在，请让我走。
Nǐmen zhīdào wǒ zhù zài nǎlǐ. Sān tiān yǐhòu, wǒ zìjǐ lái. Xiànzài, qǐng ràng wǒ zǒu.
You know where I live. In three days I'll come myself. Now, please let me go.
- Champmathieu 他……他为我说话？他不是市长吗？
Tā…… tā wèi wǒ shuōhuà? Tā bú shì shìzhǎng ma?
He... he spoke up for me? Isn't he the mayor?
- Narrator 没有人动。他们看着他走出了法庭。
Méiyǒu rén dòng. Tāmen kàn zhe tā zǒu chū le fǎtíng.
No one moved. They watched him walk out of the courtroom.
- Jean Valjean 芳汀！我回来了，我没有忘记你。你今天怎么样？
Fāngtīng! Wǒ huílái le, wǒ méiyǒu wàngjì nǐ. Nǐ jīntiān zěnmeyàng?
Fantine! I'm back, I haven't forgotten you. How are you today?
- Fantine 市长先生……我做了一个梦。我梦见珂赛特跑向我，手里还抱着一个大娃娃。
Shìzhǎng xiānsheng…… wǒ zuò le yí gè mèng. Wǒ mèng jiàn Kēsàitè pǎo xiàng wǒ, shǒu lǐ hái bào zhe yí gè dà wáwa.
Mr. Mayor... I had a dream. I saw Cosette running to me, holding a big doll.
- Jean Valjean 那不是梦。她很快就会来了。我向你保证。
Nà bú shì mèng. Tā hěn kuài jiù huì lái le. Wǒ xiàng nǐ bǎozhèng.
It isn't only a dream. She will come very soon. I promise you.
- Fantine 我怕她已经忘了我……三年了，她一定长高了很多。
Wǒ pà tā yǐjīng wàng le wǒ…… sān nián le, tā yídìng zhǎng gāo le hěn duō.
I'm afraid she has forgotten me... It's been three years. She must have grown so tall.
- Jean Valjean 她没有忘。她一直在等你。她每天都在说：妈妈会来的。
Tā méiyǒu wàng. Tā yìzhí zài děng nǐ. Tā měi tiān dōu zài shuō: māma huì lái de.
She hasn't forgotten. She has been waiting for you. Every day she says, Mama will come.
- Fantine 谢谢您……您是我见过最好的人……
Xièxie nín…… nín shì wǒ jiàn guo zuì hǎo de rén……
Thank you... You are the best person I have ever met...
- Narrator 芳汀笑着闭上了眼睛，再也没有醒来。
Fāngtīng xiào zhe bì shàng le yǎnjing, zài yě méiyǒu xǐng lái.
Fantine smiled and closed her eyes, and she did not wake again.
- Jean Valjean 睡吧，芳汀。你放心地睡吧。你的女儿，我会去接。
Shuì ba, Fāngtīng. Nǐ fàngxīn de shuì ba. Nǐ de nǚ'ér, wǒ huì qù jiē.
Sleep, Fantine. I will go and fetch your daughter.
- Javert 冉阿让。我全都听见了，从头到尾。
Rǎn Ā'ràng. Wǒ quán dōu tīng jiàn le, cóng tóu dào wěi.
Jean Valjean. I heard everything, from beginning to end.
- Jean Valjean 沙威。我知道你会来。我只是想再看她最后一眼。
Shāwēi. Wǒ zhīdào nǐ huì lái. Wǒ zhǐshì xiǎng zài kàn tā zuìhòu yì yǎn.
Javert. I knew you would come. I only wanted to look at her one last time.
- Javert 你在法庭上说了自己的名字。这一次，你逃不掉了。跟我走。
Nǐ zài fǎtíng shang shuō le zìjǐ de míngzi. Zhè yí cì, nǐ táo bú diào le. Gēn wǒ zǒu.
You said your own name in court. This time you can't escape. Come with me.
- Jean Valjean 沙威，给我三天。三天，让我去接一个孩子。然后我自己回来。
Shāwēi, gěi wǒ sān tiān. Sān tiān, ràng wǒ qù jiē yí gè háizi. Ránhòu wǒ zìjǐ huílái.
Javert, give me three days. Three days to fetch a child. Then I'll come back myself.
- Javert 三天？你以为我是傻瓜？囚犯的话，我一句也不信。
Sān tiān? Nǐ yǐwéi wǒ shì shǎguā? Qiúfàn de huà, wǒ yí jù yě bú xìn.
Three days? Do you think I'm a fool? I don't believe a word a convict says.
- Jean Valjean 我曾经是囚犯。可是我答应过她，要把她的女儿接回来。这个约定，比你的命令重。
Wǒ céngjīng shì qiúfàn. Kěshì wǒ dāying guo tā, yào bǎ tā de nǚ'ér jiē huílái. Zhège yuēdìng, bǐ nǐ de mìnglìng zhòng.
I was a convict once. But I promised her I would bring her daughter home. That promise weighs more than your orders.
- Javert 我不管什么约定！
Wǒ bù guǎn shénme yuēdìng!
I don't care about any promise!
- Jean Valjean 那你就在她面前抓我吧。看着她的脸，然后再说，你要不要拦我。
Nà nǐ jiù zài tā miànqián zhuā wǒ ba. Kàn zhe tā de liǎn, ránhòu zài shuō, nǐ yào bú yào lán wǒ.
Then arrest me in front of her. Look at her face, and then tell me whether you will stop me.
