Grandma packs the best millet dumplings in Japan, and on the road to the sea a hungry dog sniffs them out. But someone else has been listening from the trees.

Táo Tàiláng, bù xíng! Guǐ nàme dà, nàme duō, nǐ yí gè rén zěnme dǎ?
Momotaro, no! The ogres are so big, and there are so many of them. How can you fight them all by yourself?
- Grandpa 是啊，孩子！你是天上送来的，我们不能没有你！
Shì a, háizi! Nǐ shì tiānshàng sòng lái de, wǒmen bù néng méiyǒu nǐ!
She's right, child! Heaven sent you to us. We can't lose you!
- Momotaro 爷爷，奶奶，别怕。鬼拿了大家的东西，我要拿回来！
Yéye, nǎinai, bié pà. Guǐ ná le dàjiā de dōngxi, wǒ yào ná huílái!
Don't worry, Grandpa, Grandma. The ogres took everyone's things, and I'm going to bring them back!

- Grandma 好吧……那奶奶给你做团子，路上吃。
Hǎo ba… Nà nǎinai gěi nǐ zuò tuánzi, lù shang chī.
All right, then… Grandma will make you some dumplings to eat on the way.
- Narrator 那天晚上，老奶奶做了很多小米团子。
Nà tiān wǎnshang, lǎo nǎinai zuò le hěn duō xiǎomǐ tuánzi.
That night, the old woman made a big batch of millet dumplings.
- Grandpa 好香啊！给我一个，好吗？就一个！
Hǎo xiāng a! Gěi wǒ yí gè, hǎo ma? Jiù yí gè!
They smell wonderful! Can I have one? Just one!
- Grandma 不行！这是日本第一好吃的团子，是给桃太郎的！
Bù xíng! Zhè shì Rìběn dì yī hǎochī de tuánzi, shì gěi Táo Tàiláng de!
No! These are the best dumplings in all Japan, and they're for Momotaro!
- Grandpa 日本第一的团子……我一个也不能吃？
Rìběn dì yī de tuánzi… wǒ yí gè yě bù néng chī?
The best dumplings in Japan… and I can't have a single one?
- Narrator 第二天早上，桃太郎出发了。
Dì èr tiān zǎoshang, Táo Tàiláng chūfā le.
The next morning, Momotaro set off.
- Grandma 桃太郎，团子在你的包里。路上饿了，就吃一个！
Táo Tàiláng, tuánzi zài nǐ de bāo lǐ. Lù shang è le, jiù chī yí gè!
Momotaro, the dumplings are in your pouch. Whenever you get hungry on the road, eat one!
- Momotaro 谢谢奶奶！爷爷，奶奶，等我回来！
Xièxie nǎinai! Yéye, nǎinai, děng wǒ huílái!
Thank you, Grandma! Grandpa, Grandma, wait for me. I'll be back!
- Momotaro 鬼岛在海上，我先去海边吧。
Guǐ Dǎo zài hǎi shang, wǒ xiān qù hǎi biān ba.
Demon Island is out at sea, so I'll head for the shore first.
- The Dog 汪！汪！站住！
Wāng! Wāng! Zhànzhù!
Woof! Woof! Stop right there!
- Momotaro 你好，小狗！你有什么事吗？
Nǐ hǎo, xiǎogǒu! Nǐ yǒu shénme shì ma?
Hello, little dog! What can I do for you?
- The Dog 你的包里，有什么东西？好香，好香啊！
Nǐ de bāo lǐ, yǒu shénme dōngxi? Hǎo xiāng, hǎo xiāng a!
What have you got in that pouch? It smells so good, so good!
- Momotaro 这是我奶奶做的小米团子，日本第一好吃！
Zhè shì wǒ nǎinai zuò de xiǎomǐ tuánzi, Rìběn dì yī hǎochī!
Millet dumplings my grandma made. The best in all Japan!
- The Dog 日本第一？汪！给我一个，好吗？我好饿！
Rìběn dì yī? Wāng! Gěi wǒ yí gè, hǎo ma? Wǒ hǎo è!
The best in Japan? Woof! Can I have one? I'm so hungry!
- Momotaro 可以。可是我要去鬼岛打鬼，你不怕吗？
Kěyǐ. Kěshì wǒ yào qù Guǐ Dǎo dǎ guǐ, nǐ bú pà ma?
You can. But I'm on my way to Demon Island to fight the ogres. Aren't you scared?
- The Dog 汪！我不怕！吃了你的团子，我就跟你去！
Wāng! Wǒ bú pà! Chī le nǐ de tuánzi, wǒ jiù gēn nǐ qù!
Woof! Not me! Give me a dumpling and I'll come with you!
- Momotaro 好！一个团子，一个朋友。来，给你！
Hǎo! Yí gè tuánzi, yí gè péngyou. Lái, gěi nǐ!
Deal! One dumpling, one friend. Here you go!
- The Dog 好吃！真好吃！还有吗？
Hǎochī! Zhēn hǎochī! Hái yǒu ma?
Yum! So good! Got any more?
- Momotaro 哈哈！你跟我一样，很能吃！走吧，我们去鬼岛！
Hāhā! Nǐ gēn wǒ yíyàng, hěn néng chī! Zǒu ba, wǒmen qù Guǐ Dǎo!
Ha ha! You're just like me, always hungry! Come on, let's go to Demon Island!
- Narrator 忽然，一只猴子从树上跳下来，拿了桃太郎的包，又跳了回去！
Hūrán, yì zhī hóuzi cóng shù shang tiào xiàlái, ná le Táo Tàiláng de bāo, yòu tiào le huíqù!
Suddenly, a monkey dropped out of the tree, grabbed Momotaro's pouch and sprang right back up!
- The Monkey 谢谢你们！日本第一的团子，现在是我的了！
Xièxie nǐmen! Rìběn dì yī de tuánzi, xiànzài shì wǒ de le!
Thanks a lot! The best dumplings in Japan are mine now!
- The Dog 汪！汪！坏猴子！快还给我们！
Wāng! Wāng! Huài hóuzi! Kuài huán gěi wǒmen!
Woof! Woof! You bad monkey! Give that back right now!
- The Monkey 想要吗？上来拿啊！小狗，你会爬树吗？
Xiǎng yào ma? Shànglái ná a! Xiǎogǒu, nǐ huì pá shù ma?
Want it? Come up and get it! Hey, doggy, can you climb trees?
