Out of prison and starving, Pinocchio steps into a trap and must spend the night as a farmer's watchdog. Then he hurries back to the Fairy.

Pinocchio was locked up for four months. Then one day the emperor was happy, and he let all the bad men go home.
- Pinocchio 坏人都回家？我也是坏人！开门！
Huàirén dōu huí jiā? Wǒ yě shì huàirén! Kāi mén!
All the bad men go home? I'm a bad man too! Open the door!
- Pinocchio 什么？我不是坏人？我是！我是小偷！
Shénme? Wǒ bú shì huàirén? Wǒ shì! Wǒ shì xiǎotōu!
What? I'm not a bad man? I am! I'm a thief!

The door opened. Pinocchio ran and ran, off to find the Fairy and Papa.
- Pinocchio 好饿……路边有水果！我就吃一个……
Hǎo è… lùbiān yǒu shuǐguǒ! Wǒ jiù chī yí gè…
So hungry... There's fruit by the road! I'll just eat one...
- Pinocchio 啊！我的腿！什么东西咬我？
À! Wǒ de tuǐ! Shénme dōngxi yǎo wǒ?
Ow! My legs! What's biting me?
- the Farmer 抓到了！小偷！你偷我的鸡！
Zhuā dào le! Xiǎotōu! Nǐ tōu wǒ de jī!
Got you! Thief! You've been stealing my chickens!
- Pinocchio 我不是小偷！我不偷鸡！我太饿了！
Wǒ bú shì xiǎotōu! Wǒ bù tōu jī! Wǒ tài è le!
I'm not a thief! I don't steal chickens! I was just so hungry!
- the Farmer 我的狗梅兰波今天死了。今天晚上，你做我的狗！
Wǒ de gǒu Méilánbō jīntiān sǐ le. Jīntiān wǎnshang, nǐ zuò wǒ de gǒu!
My dog Melampo died today. Tonight, you'll be my dog!
- Pinocchio 我不是狗！我是匹诺曹！
Wǒ bú shì gǒu! Wǒ shì Pǐnuòcáo!
I'm not a dog! I'm Pinocchio!
- the Farmer 狗要看门。有小偷来，你就叫！
Gǒu yào kānmén. Yǒu xiǎotōu lái, nǐ jiù jiào!
A dog keeps watch. If a thief comes, you bark!
- Pinocchio 半夜了……好黑，好冷……会有狼来吗？
Bànyè le… hǎo hēi, hǎo lěng… huì yǒu láng lái ma?
It's midnight... so dark, so cold... Will a wolf come?
- the Weasel 晚上好，梅兰波……
Wǎnshang hǎo, Méilánbō…
Good evening, Melampo...
- Pinocchio 谁？是狼吗？
Shéi? Shì láng ma?
Who's there? Is it a wolf?
- the Weasel 不是狼。我们是黄鼠狼。梅兰波呢？
Bú shì láng. Wǒmen shì huángshǔláng. Méilánbō ne?
Not a wolf. We're weasels. Where's Melampo?
- Pinocchio 梅兰波死了。我是匹诺曹。
Méilánbō sǐ le. Wǒ shì Pǐnuòcáo.
Melampo is dead. I'm Pinocchio.
- the Weasel 那你做我们的新梅兰波吧。我们拿鸡，给你一只。
Nà nǐ zuò wǒmen de xīn Méilánbō ba. Wǒmen ná jī, gěi nǐ yì zhī.
Then you be our new Melampo. We take the chickens, and we give you one.
- the Weasel 你别叫，好吗？
Nǐ bié jiào, hǎo ma?
Just don't bark, all right?
- Pinocchio 好啊……你们进去吧。
Hǎo a… nǐmen jìnqu ba.
Sure... go on in.
- Narrator 他们一进去，匹诺曹就关上了门，又在门前放了一块大石头。
Tāmen yí jìnqu, Pǐnuòcáo jiù guānshàng le mén, yòu zài ménqián fàng le yí kuài dà shítou.
As soon as they went in, Pinocchio shut the door and put a big stone in front of it.
- Pinocchio 农夫先生！快来！我抓到小偷了！
Nóngfū xiānsheng! Kuài lái! Wǒ zhuā dào xiǎotōu le!
Mr. Farmer! Come quick! I've caught the thieves!
- the Farmer 四个小偷！好狗……不，好孩子！
Sì gè xiǎotōu! Hǎo gǒu… bù, hǎo háizi!
Four thieves! Good dog... I mean, good boy!
- the Farmer 梅兰波认识这些小偷吗？
Méilánbō rènshi zhèxiē xiǎotōu ma?
Did Melampo know these thieves?
- Pinocchio 他已经死了。别说他了。
Tā yǐjīng sǐ le. Bié shuō tā le.
He's dead now. Let's leave him be.
- the Farmer 你是个好孩子。走吧！
Nǐ shì gè hǎo háizi. Zǒu ba!
You're a good boy. Go on, you're free!
- Narrator 匹诺曹跑到白房子那儿。可是，房子没有了。
Pǐnuòcáo pǎo dào bái fángzi nàr. Kěshì, fángzi méiyǒu le.
Pinocchio ran to where the white house stood. But the house was gone.
- Pinocchio 姐姐？房子呢？这儿就有一块白色的石头……
Jiějie? Fángzi ne? Zhèr jiù yǒu yí kuài báisè de shítou…
Big sister? Where's the house? There's only a white stone here...
- Pinocchio 石头上写着：“蓝头发的女孩……死了。”
Shítou shang xiězhe: “Lán tóufa de nǚhái… sǐ le.”
The stone says: “The girl with turquoise hair... is dead.”
- Pinocchio “她的弟弟匹诺曹走了……她太难过了。”
“Tā de dìdi Pǐnuòcáo zǒu le… tā tài nánguò le.”
“Her little brother Pinocchio left her... and she was too sad.”
- Pinocchio 不……仙女姐姐！
Bù… Xiānnǚ jiějie!
