Year after year in the dark, Edmond stops believing anyone remembers him. Then, one night, something starts scratching under the floor of his cell.

    Yīfūbǎo de láofáng yòu lěng yòu hēi. Yì tiān, yí gèyuè, yì nián… Àidéméng zài qiángshàng shùzhe rìzi, shù le hěnduōnián.

    The cell in the Château d'If was cold and dark. One day, one month, one year... Edmond counted the days on the wall for many years.

  2. Edmond Dantès 今天是第几天？我数不清了。父亲还好吗？梅赛苔丝还在等我吗？

    Jīntiān shì dìjǐtiān? Wǒ shǔbùqīng le. Fùqīn háihǎo ma? Méisàitāisī hái zài děng wǒ ma?

    What day is it today? I've lost count. Is Father all right? Is Mercedes still waiting for me?

  3. Jailer 吃饭了！今天是汤和面包，和昨天一样。

    Chīfàn le! Jīntiān shì tāng hé miànbāo, hé zuótiān yíyàng.

    Dinner! Soup and bread today, same as yesterday.

    Xiānsheng, qiúqiú nín gàosu wǒ, wǒ zuò cuò le shénme? Wǒyào jiàn jiǎncháguān!

    Please, sir, tell me what I did wrong! I want to see the prosecutor!

  2. Jailer 每个人都这么说。你已经说了一千遍了，我明天也不会回答。

    Měigè rén dōu zhème shuō. Nǐ yǐjīng shuō le yì qiānbiàn le, wǒ míngtiān yě bú huì huídá.

    Everyone says that. You've said it a thousand times, and I won't answer tomorrow either.

  3. Edmond Dantès 先生，今天是星期几？

    Xiānsheng, jīntiān shì xīngqī jǐ?

    Sir, what day of the week is it today?

  4. Jailer 星期几？在这里，每一天都是星期一。

    Xīngqī jǐ? Zài zhèlǐ, měi yì tiān dōu shì xīngqīyī.

    What day? In here, every day is Monday.

  5. Edmond Dantès 是谁害了我？我想了又想，可是我什么也想不出来。

    Shì shuí hài le wǒ? Wǒ xiǎngleyòuxiǎng, kěshì wǒ shénme yě xiǎng bù chūlái.

    Who ruined me? I think and think, and I can't work it out.

  6. Narrator 又过了很多年。爱德蒙不再喊了，也不再哭了。他只是坐在墙边，一句话也不说。

    Yòu guò le hěnduōnián. Àidéméng bú zài hǎn le, yě bú zài kū le. Tā zhǐshì zuòzài qiángbiān, yí jù huà yě bù shuō.

    Many more years passed. Edmond no longer shouted, and no longer cried. He only sat by the wall and said nothing.

  7. Edmond Dantès 我十九岁进来，现在几岁了？我的头发是不是也白了，像个老人？

    Wǒ shíjiǔsuì jìnlái, xiànzài jǐsuì le? Wǒ de tóufa shìbúshì yě bái le, xiàng gè lǎorén?

    I came in at nineteen. How old am I now? Has my hair turned white too?

  8. Edmond Dantès 活着还有什么用？我不想再吃了。就这样睡去吧，也许在梦里，我能回家。

    Huózhe háiyǒu shénme yòng? Wǒ bù xiǎng zài chī le. Jiù zhèyàng shuìqù ba, yěxǔ zài mènglǐ, wǒnéng huíjiā.

    What use is living? I don't want to eat anymore. Let me just fall asleep. Maybe in a dream I can go home.

  9. Jailer 你今天又不吃？随你便，我明天再来。

    Nǐ jīntiān yòu bù chī? Suínǐbiàn, wǒ míngtiān zài lái.

    You're not eating again today? Suit yourself. I'll come back tomorrow.

  10. Edmond Dantès 不吃了……再也不吃了……

    Bù chī le… Zàiyě bù chī le…

    No more... no more eating...

  11. Edmond Dantès 什么声音？是老鼠吗？

    Shénme shēngyīn? Shì lǎoshǔ ma?

    What's that sound? A rat?

  12. Edmond Dantès 不，这声音很有规律，一下，一下，像是有人在挖。

    Bù, zhè shēngyīn hěn yǒu guīlǜ, yíxià, yíxià, xiàngshì yǒurén zài wā.

    No, this sound has a rhythm, again and again, like someone digging.

  13. Edmond Dantès 有人！这里有别人！喂！你是谁？

    Yǒurén! Zhèlǐ yǒu biérén! Wèi! Nǐ shì shuí?

    Someone's there! There's another person here! Hey! Who are you?

  14. Abbé Faria 别喊！小声点！我是人，不是鬼。

    Biéhǎn! Xiǎoshēngdiǎn! Wǒ shì rén, bú shì guǐ.

    Don't shout! Quietly! I'm a man, not a ghost.

  15. Edmond Dantès 你是谁？你怎么会从地下上来？

    Nǐ shì shuí? Nǐ zěnme huì cóng dìxià shànglái?

    Who are you? How did you come up from underground?

  16. Abbé Faria 我叫法里亚，大家叫我法里亚神父。我在这座监狱里，每天晚上挖，想一直挖到海边，逃出去。

    Wǒ jiào Fǎlǐyà, dàjiā jiào wǒ Fǎlǐyà shénfù. Wǒ zài zhèzuò jiānyù lǐ, měitiānwǎnshang wā, xiǎng yìzhí wā dào hǎibiān, táochūqù.

    My name is Faria. They call me Father Faria. In this prison I dig every night, trying to reach the sea and escape.

  17. Edmond Dantès 那您怎么挖到我这里来了？

    Nà nín zěnme wādào wǒ zhèlǐ lái le?

    Then how did you end up digging into my cell?

  18. Abbé Faria 唉，我算错了几步。我以为前面是大海，没想到是你的牢房。真对不起，年轻人！

    Āi, wǒ suàncuò le jǐbù. Wǒ yǐwéi qiánmiàn shì dàhǎi, méixiǎngdào shì nǐ de láofáng. Zhēnduìbùqǐ, niánqīngrén!

    Oh dear, I counted a few steps wrong. I thought the sea was ahead, and instead I found your cell. I'm so sorry, young man!

  19. Edmond Dantès 哈哈……您挖了这么多年，就是为了来看我？

    Hāhā… Nín wā le zhème duōnián, jiùshì wèile láikàn wǒ?

    Ha ha... you dug for all those years just to come and visit me?

  20. Abbé Faria 也许这就是命运。你叫什么名字？你为什么在这里？

    Yěxǔ zhè jiùshì mìngyùn. Nǐ jiào shénme míngzi? Nǐ wèishénme zài zhèlǐ?

    Perhaps that is fate. What is your name? Why are you here?

  21. Edmond Dantès 我叫爱德蒙，是个水手。我什么也没做，可是他们说我是国王的敌人。

    Wǒ jiào Àidéméng, shì gè shuǐshǒu. Wǒ shénme yě méi zuò, kěshì tāmen shuō wǒ shì guówáng de dírén.

    My name is Edmond, and I am a sailor. I did nothing, but they say I am an enemy of the king.

  22. Abbé Faria 什么也没做，就被关了这么多年？我不信。这种事一定有原因。

    Shénme yě méi zuò, jiù bèi guān le zhème duōnián? Wǒ bú xìn. Zhèzhǒng shì yídìng yǒu yuányīn.

    Nothing at all, and locked up all these years? I don't believe it. There must be a reason.

  23. Edmond Dantès 十四年了，我想了一千遍，还是想不明白。

    Shísìnián le, wǒ xiǎng le yì qiānbiàn, háishi xiǎng bù míngbai.

    Fourteen years, and a thousand times I have thought it over. I still don't understand.

  24. Abbé Faria 那我们一起想。一个人想不明白的事，两个人也许想得明白。

    Nà wǒmen yìqǐ xiǎng. Yí gè rénxiǎng bù míngbai de shì, liǎnggè rén yěxǔ xiǎngdé míngbai.

    Then let's think together. What one man can't work out, two men perhaps can.

    Nín yuànyì bāng wǒ?

    You would help me?

  26. Abbé Faria 我是个老人，也是个神父，最多的就是时间。来，说说你被抓的那一天，都有谁在你身边？

    Wǒ shì gè lǎorén, yě shì gè shénfù, zuìduō de jiùshì shíjiān. Lái, shuō shuo nǐ bèi zhuā de nà yì tiān, dōu yǒu shuí zài nǐ shēnbiān?

    I'm an old man and a priest, and time is what I have most. Now, tell me about the day you were arrested. Who was near you?

  27. Edmond Dantès 有我的父亲，有梅赛苔丝，还有邓格拉尔和费尔南。

    Yǒu wǒ de fùqīn, yǒu Méisàitāisī, háiyǒu Dènggélā'ěr hé Fèi'ěrnán.

    There was my father, there was Mercedes, and there were Danglars and Fernand.

  28. Abbé Faria 好。从今天起，我要教你思考，也教你很多别的东西。你愿意学吗？

    Hǎo. Cóngjīntiānqǐ, wǒyào jiào nǐ sīkǎo, yě jiào nǐ hěnduō biéde dōngxi. Nǐ yuànyì xué ma?

    Good. From today, I will teach you how to think, and many other things too. Will you learn?

  29. Edmond Dantès 我愿意，神父！我什么都愿意学！

    Wǒ yuànyì, shénfù! Wǒ shénme dōu yuànyì xué!

    I will, Father! I'll learn anything!

  30. Abbé Faria 那么，我们就先来找一找，是谁把你关进了这里。

    Nàme, wǒmen jiù xiānlái zhǎo yì zhǎo, shì shuí bǎ nǐ guānjìn le zhèlǐ.
