In Baker Street, Mortimer picked up the newspaper. It was a Devon paper, dated May 14.
- Sherlock Holmes
Qǐng dú ba. Zhǐ dú shìshí, bú yào lièquǎn, yě bú yào móguǐ.
Read it, please. Just the facts. No hounds, and no devils.
Wǔyuè sì rì wǎnshang, Bāsīkèwéi'ěr Zhuāngyuán de Chá'ěrsī Juéshì tūrán qùshì le.
On the night of May 4, Sir Charles of Baskerville Hall died suddenly.

Tā shì yí gè hěn hǎo de rén. Wǒ hěn xiǎng tā.
He was a very good man. I miss him.

Tā měi tiān wǎnshang dōu diǎn yì zhī xuějiā, qù zhuāngyuán hòumiàn de zǐshān xiǎolù sànbù.
Every night he would light a cigar and walk along the yew alley behind the house.
- Dr. Watson
Zǐshān xiǎolù? Shì shénme yàng de dìfang?
The yew alley? What sort of place is that?
Yì tiáo hěn cháng de xiǎolù, zuǒbiān hé yòubiān dōu shì hěn gāo de zǐshān shù, xiàng liǎng miàn lǜsè de qiáng.
A long path with tall yew trees on both sides, like two green walls.
Zǒudào xiǎolù de yíbàn, pángbiān yǒu yí gè xiǎo mén. Mén wàimiàn, jiù shì huāngyuán.
Halfway down the path, there's a little gate at one side. Beyond the gate lies the moor.
Wǔyuè sì rì, tā shuō dì èr tiān yào qù Lúndūn. Nà tiān wǎnshang tā chūqù sànbù, jiù méiyǒu zài huílái.
On May 4, he said he would go to London the next day. That night he went out for his walk, and he never came back.
Shí'èr diǎn, guǎnjiā Bālǐmó'ěr názhe dēng chūqù zhǎo tā.
At midnight, the butler, Barrymore, took a lamp and went out to look for him.
Zài zǐshān xiǎolù de nà yì tóu, Bālǐmó'ěr zhǎo dào le Chá'ěrsī Juéshì. Tā yǐjīng sǐ le.
At the far end of the yew alley, Barrymore found Sir Charles. He was dead.
- Dr. Watson
Tā shòushāng le ma?
Was he hurt?
Méiyǒu. Tā shēnshang yìdiǎn shāng yě méiyǒu. Kěshì tā de liǎn…
No. There wasn't a mark on him. But his face...
Tā de liǎn biàn de fēicháng kěpà. Wǒ shì tā de yīshēng, kěshì wǒ chàdiǎnr méi rènchū tā.
His face was so twisted and terrible that I, his own doctor, hardly knew him.
Yīshēngmen shuō, tā shì yīnwèi xīnzàng bù hǎo cái sǐ de.
The doctors said he died because of his weak heart.
Bālǐmó'ěr hái shuō, Chá'ěrsī Juéshì shēnbiān de dìshang, shénme yě méiyǒu.
Barrymore also said there was nothing on the ground near Sir Charles's body.
But one thing was strange. After he passed the little gate, his footprints changed.
- Dr. Watson
Biàn le? Zěnme biàn le?
Changed? How?
Tā de jiǎoyìn zhǐyǒu qiánmiàn yíbàn, hǎoxiàng tā shì yòng jiǎojiān zǒulù de.
His footprints showed only the front half, as if he had been walking on his toes.
- Sherlock Holmes
Yòng jiǎojiān zǒulù? Yǒu yìsi. Huáshēng, jìzhù zhège xiànsuǒ.
Walking on his toes? Interesting. Watson, remember that clue.
Chá'ěrsī Juéshì méiyǒu háizi. Jìchéng zhuāngyuán de, shì tā dìdi de érzi, Hēnglì Bāsīkèwéi'ěr.
Sir Charles had no children. The heir to the estate is his younger brother's son, Henry Baskerville.
Tīngshuō tā zài Jiānádà zhòngdì, dàjiā zhèngzài zhǎo tā.
He is said to be farming in Canada, and people are trying to find him.
- Sherlock Holmes
Wǔyuè de shíhou, wǒ yě kàndàoguo yìdiǎn. Kěshì nà shíhou wǒ tài máng le.
I saw a little about this in May. But I was far too busy at the time.
Shì a, nǐ shuō: “Déwén Jùn de shì, wǒ méi shíjiān kàn.”
Yes, you said, “Devon business? I haven't got time for it.”
- Sherlock Holmes
Hǎo le. Bàozhǐ shang de, wǒ dōu tīngdào le. Xiànzài qǐng gàosu wǒ, bàozhǐ shang méi xiě de shì.
That's enough. I've heard what's in the paper. Now tell me what the paper left out.
- Narrator
Mòdìmò fàngxià bàozhǐ, kàn le yì yǎn ménkǒu.
Mortimer put down the newspaper and glanced at the door.
