The Black Boot
黑靴子
At the hotel Sir Henry is furious about another missing boot, and over lunch Holmes asks Dr. Mortimer an odd question about beards.

This is outrageous! What kind of hotel is this?
- Sherlock Holmes 亨利爵士，别急，慢慢说。出了什么事？

Easy, Sir Henry. Tell me slowly. What's happened?

No, still nothing! First a new brown one, and now an old black one!

Sir Henry, how many pairs of boots did you bring to London?

Three! At this rate I'll be walking into Devon barefoot!

A barefoot Baskerville... Devon folk would tell that story for a hundred years.

They did! Under the bed, under the cabinet, outside the door, everywhere, and nothing!
- Sherlock Holmes 先偷一只新的，又偷一只旧的……有意思，非常有意思。

First someone steals a new one, then an old one... interesting, very interesting.

Interesting? Mr. Holmes, those are my boots, not your clues!

Sir Henry, don't be angry. Let's sit down and have lunch first.

Sir Henry, after you left my rooms this morning, someone in a cab followed you all the way.
- Sir Henry 跟着我？在伦敦，谁会跟着我？
Gēnzhe wǒ? Zài Lúndūn, shéi huì gēnzhe wǒ?
Followed me? Who in London would follow me?
- Sherlock Holmes 我不知道他是谁。他有一把黑胡子，也许是假的，一直从马车的窗户里看着你。
Wǒ bù zhīdào tā shì shéi. Tā yǒu yì bǎ hēi húzi, yěxǔ shì jiǎ de, yìzhí cóng mǎchē de chuānghu li kànzhe nǐ.
I don't know who he is. He had a black beard, maybe a false one, and he kept watching you through the cab window.
- Sir Henry 黑胡子？我自己没有胡子，也不认识有胡子的人！我刚到伦敦啊！
Hēi húzi? Wǒ zìjǐ méiyǒu húzi, yě bú rènshi yǒu húzi de rén! Wǒ gāng dào Lúndūn a!
A black beard? I haven't got a beard myself, and I don't know anyone who has! I've only just got to London!
- Sherlock Holmes 莫蒂默医生，要是胡子是真的呢？庄园里或者庄园旁边，有人留着一把黑胡子吗？

A black beard... yes! Barrymore, Sir Charles's butler!

He should be at the Hall, waiting for Sir Henry.
- Sherlock Holmes “应该”不够。我要的是事实。
“Yīnggāi” bú gòu. Wǒ yào de shì shìshí.
“Should be” isn't good enough. I want facts.
- Dr. Watson 可是庄园离伦敦那么远，我们怎么知道？
Kěshì zhuāngyuán lí Lúndūn nàme yuǎn, wǒmen zěnme zhīdào?
But the Hall is so far from London. How can we find out?
- Sherlock Holmes 发一封电报：“亨利爵士要来了，都准备好了吗？”一定要给巴里摩尔，他不在就送回来。
Fā yì fēng diànbào: “Hēnglì Juéshì yào lái le, dōu zhǔnbèi hǎo le ma?” Yídìng yào gěi Bālǐmó'ěr, tā bú zài jiù sòng huílái.
We send a telegram: “Sir Henry is coming. Is everything ready?” It goes to Barrymore and nobody else, and comes back if he isn't there.
- Dr. Watson 我明白了！要是巴里摩尔不在庄园，电报就会回到这儿……
Wǒ míngbai le! Yàoshi Bālǐmó'ěr bú zài zhuāngyuán, diànbào jiù huì huí dào zhèr…
I see! If Barrymore isn't at the Hall, the telegram will come back here...
- Sherlock Holmes 那么，马车里那个黑胡子，很可能就是他。

Then the black-bearded man in the cab may very well be him.
