The Burned Letter
烧掉的信
On a foggy morning Barrymore repays Sir Henry's kindness with a secret about Sir Charles's last night, and a half-burned letter points Watson toward a woman.

Kěshì Bālǐmó'ěr, tā yǐqián shāguo rén a! Wǒ zěnme néng bù shuō?
But Barrymore, he's killed people before! How can I say nothing?

- Barrymore 那天晚上，他去那个小门，不是去散步。他在等一个女人。

That night, when he went to the little gate, he wasn't out for a walk. He was waiting for a woman.
- Dr. Watson 等一个女人？巴里摩尔，你怎么会知道？
Děng yí gè nǚrén? Bālǐmó'ěr, nǐ zěnme huì zhīdào?
Waiting for a woman? Barrymore, how could you know that?
- Barrymore 那天早上，他收到一封信，看完就烧了。
Nà tiān zǎoshang, tā shōu dào yì fēng xìn, kàn wán jiù shāo le.
That morning he got a letter. He read it and burned it.
- Sir Henry 烧了？那你怎么知道？
Shāo le? Nà nǐ zěnme zhīdào?
Burned it? Then how do you know?
- Barrymore 后来，我太太在他房间里找到了那封没烧完的信。最后几句还看得清楚。
Hòulái, wǒ tàitai zài tā fángjiān li zhǎo dào le nà fēng méi shāo wán de xìn. Zuìhòu jǐ jù hái kàn de qīngchu.
Later my wife found the half-burned letter in his room. The last lines could still be read.
- Sir Henry 写的是什么？快说！
Xiě de shì shénme? Kuài shuō!
What did it say? Tell us!
- Barrymore “求求您，求求您，请一定把这封信烧了。十点钟，到小门那儿来。”下面是两个字母：L.L.。
“Qiúqiu nín, qiúqiu nín, qǐng yídìng bǎ zhè fēng xìn shāo le. Shí diǎn zhōng, dào xiǎo mén nàr lái.” Xiàmiàn shì liǎng gè zìmǔ.
'Please, please, be sure to burn this letter. At ten o'clock, come to the little gate.' And under it, two letters: L.L.

Ten o'clock, the little gate... he stood there a long while, and his cigar ash dropped twice. So he was waiting for her!
- Sir Henry 巴里摩尔，你为什么一直不说？

Barrymore, why did you never say so?
- Barrymore 我不想让别人说查尔斯爵士的坏话，先生。
Wǒ bù xiǎng ràng biérén shuō Chá'ěrsī Juéshì de huàihuà, xiānsheng.
I didn't want anyone speaking ill of Sir Charles, sir.

The next day it rained from morning to night. That evening, Mortimer came to dinner at the Hall.
- Dr. Mortimer 亨利爵士，您看见我的狗了吗？昨天它在雾里跑进荒原，就没回来。
Hēnglì Juéshì, nín kànjiàn wǒ de gǒu le ma? Zuótiān tā zài wù li pǎo jìn huāngyuán, jiù méi huílái.
Sir Henry, have you seen my dog? Yesterday it ran off onto the moor in the fog, and it never came back.
- Dr. Watson 莫蒂默的狗不见了……我想起了格林盆沼泽。
Mòdìmò de gǒu bú jiàn le… wǒ xiǎng qǐ le Gélínpén zhǎozé.
Mortimer's dog, gone... It makes me think of the Grimpen Mire.
- Dr. Mortimer 它每天都帮我拿手杖。现在，谁来咬我的手杖呢？
Tā měitiān dōu bāng wǒ ná shǒuzhàng. Xiànzài, shéi lái yǎo wǒ de shǒuzhàng ne?
Every day it carried my stick for me. Now who's going to chew my stick?
- Sir Henry 别难过，它会自己回来的。
Bié nánguò, tā huì zìjǐ huílái de.
Don't be sad. It'll find its own way home.

Mortimer, do you know a woman whose initials are L.L.?

Let me think... yes, there's only one: Laura Lyons, Frankland's daughter.
- Sir Henry 弗兰克兰？那个天天告人的老人？

Frankland? The old man who's always suing people?
- Dr. Mortimer 就是他。她丈夫早就走了，父亲也不要她。她一个人住在库姆特雷西。

That's him. Her husband left her long ago, and her father wants nothing to do with her. She lives alone in Coombe Tracey.

Late that night, Barrymore came to Watson's room.
- Barrymore 华生医生，赛尔登说，荒原上还有一个人。他躲在山上的石头房子里。
Huáshēng yīshēng, Sài'ěrdēng shuō, huāngyuán shang hái yǒu yí gè rén. Tā duǒ zài shān shang de shítou fángzi li.
Dr. Watson, Selden says there's another man on the moor. He's hiding in a stone hut up on the hill.
- Dr. Watson 又一个逃犯？

Another convict?
