The Cry on the Moor
荒原上的叫声
On the dark hill, Watson finally gets some answers, until a terrible cry rings out across the moor.

It was nearly dark. Outside the stone hut, Holmes sat on a rock. He was thin and brown from the sun, but his eyes were bright.

Weren't you in London? The letters I wrote you...

That's Cartwright. He brings me food every day, and tells me where you've gone.
- Dr. Watson 你就在这儿，一句话也不告诉我？你骗了我！

You were right here, and you never said a word to me? You tricked me!

I'm sorry, my dear Watson. If you had known, our enemy would have known too. Your letters were very good... just too long.

Today I saw Laura Lyons. She wanted to leave her husband and needed money. But she says that later, someone else helped her.
- Sherlock Holmes 有意思。那个“别人”，就是斯台普顿。我跟过他：他常去找劳拉，还骗她说要跟她结婚。
Yǒu yìsi. Nàge “biérén”, jiù shì Sītáipǔdùn. Wǒ gēnguo tā: tā cháng qù zhǎo Láolā, hái piàn tā shuō yào gēn tā jiéhūn.
Interesting. That 'someone else' is Stapleton. I've followed him: he often goes to see Laura, and he tricked her into believing he would marry her.
- Dr. Watson 斯台普顿要结婚？那他的妹妹怎么办？
Sītáipǔdùn yào jiéhūn? Nà tā de mèimei zěnme bàn?
Stapleton, getting married? Then what about his sister?

Nǐ xiǎng yi xiǎng: Sītáipǔdùn gèzi xiǎo, huáng tóufa. Tā de “mèimei” gèzi gāo, hēi tóufa. Tāmen xiàng gēge hé mèimei ma?
Think about it: Stapleton is small, with fair hair. His 'sister' is tall, with dark hair. Do they look like brother and sister?
- Dr. Watson 不像……一点儿也不像。
Bú xiàng… yìdiǎnr yě bú xiàng.
No... not one bit.
- Sherlock Holmes 亨利爵士要跟她结婚，斯台普顿为什么那么生气？

Zhè jiù shì tā de mìmì. Tā bú shì Sītáipǔdùn xiǎojie, tā shì Sītáipǔdùn tàitai, tā de tàitai!
That's his secret. She isn't Miss Stapleton. She's Mrs. Stapleton, his wife!
- Dr. Watson 天哪！你怎么知道的？
Tiān na! Nǐ zěnme zhīdào de?
Good heavens! How do you know?
- Sherlock Holmes 他说过，他在北方开过学校。我去查了：学校关门以后，校长和太太一起不见了。
Tā shuōguo, tā zài běifāng kāiguo xuéxiào. Wǒ qù chá le: xuéxiào guānmén yǐhòu, xiàozhǎng hé tàitai yìqǐ bú jiàn le.
He said he once ran a school in the north. I looked into it: after the school closed, the schoolmaster and his wife both disappeared.
- Dr. Watson 那个校长……就是斯台普顿？
Nàge xiàozhǎng… jiù shì Sītáipǔdùn?
That schoolmaster... was Stapleton?
- Sherlock Holmes 对。那个校长，也很喜欢蝴蝶。
Duì. Nàge xiàozhǎng, yě hěn xǐhuan húdié.
Yes. That schoolmaster was very fond of butterflies, too.
- Dr. Watson 那个笑着跟我说话的人……他想杀亨利爵士？
Nàge xiàozhe gēn wǒ shuōhuà de rén… tā xiǎng shā Hēnglì Juéshì?
The man who chatted with me, all smiles... he wants to kill Sir Henry?
- Sherlock Holmes 这是谋杀，华生，一步一步想好的谋杀。这个人的心很冷。再给我一天。
Zhè shì móushā, Huáshēng, yí bù yí bù xiǎng hǎo de móushā. Zhège rén de xīn hěn lěng. Zài gěi wǒ yì tiān.
It's murder, Watson, murder planned step by step. He's a cold-hearted man. Give me one more day.
- Narrator 就在这时候，黑黑的荒原上，有人大叫了一声。
Jiù zài zhè shíhou, hēihēi de huāngyuán shang, yǒu rén dà jiào le yì shēng.
At that very moment, out on the dark moor, someone screamed.
- Dr. Watson 那是什么声音？

What was that?
- Sherlock Holmes 有人在叫！在那边，快！
Yǒu rén zài jiào! Zài nàbiān, kuài!
Someone's crying out! Over there, quick!
- Dr. Watson 福尔摩斯，你听……是猎犬！

Holmes, listen... it's the hound!
- Sherlock Holmes 快，华生，跟我来！
Kuài, Huáshēng, gēn wǒ lái!
Quick, Watson, follow me!
- Dr. Watson 那儿！石头下面有一个人！
Nàr! Shítou xiàmiàn yǒu yí gè rén!
There! There's a man below the rocks!
- Sherlock Holmes 他脸朝下……华生，你是医生，快看看他！

He's face down... Watson, you're a doctor, quick, look at him!
- Dr. Watson 他……他已经死了。
Tā… tā yǐjīng sǐ le.
He's... he's dead.
- Sherlock Holmes 太黑了。华生，你有火柴吗？
Tài hēi le. Huáshēng, nǐ yǒu huǒchái ma?
It's too dark. Watson, do you have a match?
- Narrator 火柴亮了。小小的光里，他们看见了那个人的衣服。
Huǒchái liàng le. Xiǎoxiǎo de guāng li, tāmen kànjiàn le nàge rén de yīfu.
The match flared. In its tiny light, they saw the dead man's clothes.
- Dr. Watson 深红色的衣服……福尔摩斯，这是亨利爵士的衣服！
Shēnhóngsè de yīfu… Fú'ěrmósī, zhè shì Hēnglì Juéshì de yīfu!
Dark red clothes... Holmes, these are Sir Henry's clothes!
- Sherlock Holmes 我们……还是晚了一步。
