The Man in the Cab
马车里的人
Holmes and Watson trail Sir Henry through the busy London streets and spot a cab creeping along behind him, with a bearded man watching from its window.

You mean whoever made the warning letter could be on this street too?

Very possibly. Look at that cab across the road. It's creeping along, keeping behind them all the way.

There's a man inside with a big bushy black beard. He keeps watching Sir Henry through the window!
- Narrator 车里的人忽然看见了他们。他对车夫大叫了一声，马车很快就跑远了。
Chē li de rén hūrán kànjiàn le tāmen. Tā duì chēfū dà jiào le yì shēng, mǎchē hěn kuài jiù pǎo yuǎn le.
Suddenly the man in the cab saw them. He shouted to the driver, and the cab raced away.
- Sherlock Holmes 站住！站住！
Zhànzhù! Zhànzhù!
Stop! Stop!
- Dr. Watson 福尔摩斯，别追了！马太快了！
Fú'ěrmósī, bié zhuī le! Mǎ tài kuài le!
Holmes, let it go! The horse is too fast!
- Sherlock Holmes 跑了。可是我看清楚了马车上的号：二七零四。
Pǎo le. Kěshì wǒ kàn qīngchu le mǎchē shang de hào: èr qī líng sì.
Gone. But I got a clear look at the cab's number: 2704.
- Dr. Watson 二七零四号……好，我记住了。
Èr qī líng sì hào… hǎo, wǒ jìzhù le.
Number 2704... right, I've got it.
- Sherlock Holmes 你看清他的脸了吗，华生？他长什么样？
Nǐ kànqīng tā de liǎn le ma, Huáshēng? Tā zhǎng shénme yàng?
Did you see his face, Watson? What did he look like?
- Dr. Watson 我……我只记得那把黑胡子。
Wǒ… wǒ zhǐ jìde nà bǎ hēi húzi.
I... I only remember that black beard.
- Sherlock Holmes 我也一样。所以，那把胡子很可能是假的。
Wǒ yě yíyàng. Suǒyǐ, nà bǎ húzi hěn kěnéng shì jiǎ de.
Same here. Which means the beard was very likely false.
- Dr. Watson 假的？
Jiǎ de?
False?
- Sherlock Holmes 他戴假胡子，就是不想让人看清他的脸。这个人不简单，华生。
Tā dài jiǎ húzi, jiù shì bù xiǎng ràng rén kànqīng tā de liǎn. Zhège rén bù jiǎndān, Huáshēng.
He wears a false beard so that nobody sees his face clearly. This is no ordinary man, Watson.
- Dr. Watson 那我们现在怎么办？
Nà wǒmen xiànzài zěnme bàn?
So what do we do now?
- Sherlock Holmes 我们有两条线索：二七零四号马车，还有那张剪了字的报纸。
Wǒmen yǒu liǎng tiáo xiànsuǒ: èr qī líng sì hào mǎchē, hái yǒu nà zhāng jiǎn le zì de bàozhǐ.
We have two clues: cab number 2704, and the newspaper with the words cut out.

Holmes took Watson into a small messenger office. A fourteen-year-old boy came running over at once.

Hello, Cartwright! I need your help again. Here are the names of twenty-three hotels.
- Narrator 卡特赖特笑着点点头，眼睛又黑又亮。

Cartwright nodded with a grin, his dark eyes bright.
- Sherlock Holmes 你每一家都去，看看他们昨天不要的旧报纸，找一张被人剪了字的《泰晤士报》。
Nǐ měi yì jiā dōu qù, kànkan tāmen zuótiān bú yào de jiù bàozhǐ, zhǎo yì zhāng bèi rén jiǎn le zì de Tàiwùshì Bào.
Go to every one and look through the old papers they threw out yesterday. Find a Times with words cut out of it.
- Dr. Watson 他才十四岁。这么多旅馆，他行吗？
Tā cái shísì suì. Zhème duō lǚguǎn, tā xíng ma?
He's only fourteen. All those hotels, can he manage?
- Sherlock Holmes 卡特赖特的眼睛很尖。在伦敦，很多大人都没有他看得清楚。
Kǎtèlàitè de yǎnjing hěn jiān. Zài Lúndūn, hěn duō dàrén dōu méiyǒu tā kàn de qīngchu.
Cartwright has sharp eyes. Plenty of grown men in London don't see as well as he does.
- Dr. Watson 福尔摩斯，那个黑胡子……他还会再来吗？
Fú'ěrmósī, nàge hēi húzi… tā hái huì zài lái ma?
Holmes, that man with the black beard... will he come back?
- Sherlock Holmes 会的，华生。他戴着假胡子跟着亨利爵士。而且，他知道我们看见他了。
Huì de, Huáshēng. Tā dàizhe jiǎ húzi gēnzhe Hēnglì Juéshì. Érqiě, tā zhīdào wǒmen kànjiàn tā le.
He will, Watson. He's following Sir Henry in a false beard. And he knows we've seen him.
