Watson agrees to guard Sir Henry in Devon, a lost boot turns up, and one by one Holmes's clues lead nowhere, until a cab driver arrives with a name.

Nearly a million. Sir Henry has inherited all of it.

Wonderful, Dr. Watson! ...Look, under the cabinet! It's my brown boot!
- Dr. Mortimer 可是午饭以前，我们在这儿找过，柜子下面什么都没有啊！

But before lunch we searched in here, and there was nothing under the cabinet!

Someone has brought back the new one, but not the old one. Interesting...

That evening in Baker Street, the bad news came one piece after another.
- Sherlock Holmes 第一封电报：巴里摩尔在庄园里。
Dì yī fēng diànbào: Bālǐmó'ěr zài zhuāngyuán li.
First telegram: Barrymore is at the Hall.
- Dr. Watson 那么，那个戴假胡子的人，就不是他了。
Nàme, nàge dài jiǎ húzi de rén, jiù bú shì tā le.
Then the man in the false beard wasn't him.
- Sherlock Holmes 第二封是卡特赖特的：二十三家旅馆都找了，没有被剪了字的《泰晤士报》。

The second is from Cartwright: he searched all twenty-three hotels, and found no Times with words cut out.

There's still a third: the driver of cab 2704. I've asked him to come here tonight.

Good evening, gentlemen. My name's John Clayton. I drive cab 2704.

Kèláidùn, jīntiān zǎoshang yǒu yí wèi xiānsheng zuò le nǐ de mǎchē. Qǐng nǐ cóngtóu jiǎng.
Clayton, a gentleman rode in your cab this morning. Tell me everything from the start.
- John Clayton 早上九点半，他上了我的车。他说，他是一个侦探。
Zǎoshang jiǔ diǎn bàn, tā shàng le wǒ de chē. Tā shuō, tā shì yí gè zhēntàn.
At half past nine this morning he got into my cab. He said he was a detective.
- Dr. Watson 一个侦探？
Yí gè zhēntàn?
A detective?
- John Clayton 对。他给了我两个金币，说今天一天，我都要听他的。
Duì. Tā gěi le wǒ liǎng gè jīnbì, shuō jīntiān yì tiān, wǒ dōu yào tīng tā de.
Yes. He gave me two gold coins and said I was to do whatever he said all day.
- Sherlock Holmes 后来呢？
Hòulái ne?
And then?
- John Clayton 我们一直跟着两位先生，他就从窗户里看着他们。后来他忽然大叫“快走”，我们就一直跑到了车站。
Wǒmen yìzhí gēnzhe liǎng wèi xiānsheng, tā jiù cóng chuānghu li kànzhe tāmen. Hòulái tā hūrán dà jiào “kuài zǒu”, wǒmen jiù yìzhí pǎo dào le chēzhàn.
We followed two gentlemen the whole way, and he watched them through the window. Then all of a sudden he shouted “Go!”, and we raced all the way to the station.

What did he look like?
- John Clayton 脸很白，留着一把黑胡子，方方的。
Liǎn hěn bái, liúzhe yì bǎ hēi húzi, fāngfāng de.
A pale face, and a black beard, cut square.
- Sherlock Holmes 他告诉你他叫什么名字了吗？
Tā gàosu nǐ tā jiào shénme míngzi le ma?
Did he tell you his name?
- John Clayton 告诉了。他叫……夏洛克·福尔摩斯先生。
Gàosu le. Tā jiào… Xiàluòkè Fú'ěrmósī xiānsheng.
He did. His name was... Mr. Sherlock Holmes.
