The next morning, the hen and her chick were making bread.
- Little Red Hen 小鸡，来！一点面，一点水，我们一起做面包！
Xiǎojī, lái! Yìdiǎn miàn, yìdiǎn shuǐ, wǒmen yìqǐ zuò miànbāo!
Little chick, come! A little flour, a little water, let's make bread together!
- Chick 妈妈，这个面白白的，好好玩！我可以玩一下吗？
Māma, zhège miàn bái bái de, hǎohǎo wán! Wǒ kěyǐ wán yíxià ma?
Mama, this dough is so white and so much fun! Can I play with it a little?

Listen, the fire is crackling. The bread is growing inside.
- Chick 好香啊！我想吃！
Hǎo xiāng a! Wǒ xiǎng chī!
It smells so good! I want to eat!
- Little Red Hen 别急，别急。
Bié jí, bié jí.
Don't rush, don't rush.
- Chick 好了吗？现在好了吗？
Hǎo le ma? Xiànzài hǎo le ma?
Is it ready? Is it ready now?
- Little Red Hen 好了！你看，又大又黄的面包！
Hǎo le! Nǐ kàn, yòu dà yòu huáng de miànbāo!
It's ready! Look, a big golden loaf!
- Chick 哇！这是我们的面包！
Wā! Zhè shì wǒmen de miànbāo!
Wow! This is our bread!
- Duck 好香啊！这是什么味道？
Hǎo xiāng a! Zhè shì shénme wèidao?
It smells so good! What is that smell?
- Little Red Hen 鸭子，小猫，小狗，这是面包的味道。这是我们的面包。
Yāzi, xiǎo māo, xiǎo gǒu, zhè shì miànbāo de wèidao. Zhè shì wǒmen de miànbāo.
Duck, kitty, puppy, this is the smell of bread. This is our bread.
- Cat 面包？我最爱吃面包了！
Miànbāo? Wǒ zuì ài chī miànbāo le!
Bread? I love bread most of all!
- Dog 我也是！母鸡，谁来吃面包？
Wǒ yě shì! Mǔjī, shéi lái chī miànbāo?
Me too! Hen, who will eat the bread?
- Little Red Hen 谁种了小麦？
Shéi zhòng le xiǎomài?
Who planted the wheat?
- Duck 呃……不是我。我那天去游泳了。
È… bú shì wǒ. Wǒ nà tiān qù yóuyǒng le.
Um... not me. I went swimming that day.
- Little Red Hen 谁割了小麦，谁磨了面？
Shéi gē le xiǎomài, shéi mó le miàn?
Who cut the wheat, who ground the flour?
- Cat 也不是我。我那天在睡觉。
Yě bú shì wǒ. Wǒ nà tiān zài shuìjiào.
Not me either. I was sleeping that day.
- Dog 那……谁来吃面包呢？我不是玩球，是在等面包！
Nà… shéi lái chī miànbāo ne? Wǒ bú shì wán qiú, shì zài děng miànbāo!
So... who will eat the bread? I wasn't playing ball, I was waiting for bread!
- Little Red Hen 我和我的孩子来吃。
Wǒ hé wǒ de háizi lái chī.
My child and I will eat it.
- Duck 母鸡，对不起。
Mǔjī, duìbuqǐ.
Hen, I'm sorry.
- Cat 我们错了。下次我们来帮你，好吗？
Wǒmen cuò le. Xiàcì wǒmen lái bāng nǐ, hǎo ma?
We were wrong. Next time we'll help you, all right?
- Dog 我也来！我不玩球了！
Wǒ yě lái! Wǒ bù wán qiú le!
Me too! No more playing ball!
- Little Red Hen 好。下次，我们大家一起种小麦。
Hǎo. Xiàcì, wǒmen dàjiā yìqǐ zhòng xiǎomài.
All right. Next time, we'll all plant the wheat together.
- Chick 妈妈，面包真好吃！
Māma, miànbāo zhēn hǎochī!
Mama, the bread is so good!
- Little Red Hen 是啊。因为是我们自己做的。
Shì a. Yīnwèi shì wǒmen zìjǐ zuò de.
Yes. Because we made it ourselves.
- Chick 妈妈，明年我们做更多的面包吧！
Māma, míngnián wǒmen zuò gèng duō de miànbāo ba!
Mama, next year let's make even more bread!
- Little Red Hen 好！这一次，会有很多朋友来帮我们。
Hǎo! Zhè yí cì, huì yǒu hěn duō péngyou lái bāng wǒmen.
