Jiang Ning has one morning to learn one dish. Lu Fang coaches, the eggs escape, and Mama is on her way. Then Mama pours Lu Wei a very big cup of tea.

Easy? I can't even crack an egg. Before, I only ate. I never cooked.

Auntie is almost here! We're low on eggs, only six left!
- Lu Fang 先炒鸡蛋，再放西红柿。油热了吗？
Xiān chǎo jīdàn, zài fàng xīhóngshì. Yóu rè le ma?
First the eggs, then the tomatoes. Is the oil hot?
- Jiang Ning 热了！好热！它在叫，它在叫！
Rè le! Hǎo rè! Tā zài jiào, tā zài jiào!
It's hot! So hot! It's yelling, it's yelling!
- Lu Fang 太热了！关火！关火！
Tài rè le! Guānhuǒ! Guānhuǒ!
Too hot! Turn off the fire! Turn off the fire!
- Jiang Ning 关哪儿？火在哪儿？
Guān nǎr? Huǒ zài nǎr?
Turn off where? Where's the fire?
- Lu Fang 那儿！那儿！你看，这个！
Nàr! Nàr! Nǐ kàn, zhège!
There! There! Look, this one!
- Jiang Ning 好了……好了。你看，它有点儿黑。
Hǎo le… hǎo le. Nǐ kàn, tā yǒudiǎnr hēi.
Okay... okay. Look, it's a little black.
- Lu Fang 没关系。黑一点儿，也是菜。
Méi guānxi. Hēi yìdiǎnr, yě shì cài.
It's fine. A bit black is still food.
- Jiang Ning 阿姨会怎么说？我好怕，我好怕。
Āyí huì zěnme shuō? Wǒ hǎo pà, wǒ hǎo pà.
What will Auntie say? I'm so scared, so scared.
- Mama Lu 门外都是烟！江宁，你在做饭，还是在玩火？
Mén wài dōu shì yān! Jiāng Níng, nǐ zài zuòfàn, háishi zài wánhuǒ?
There's smoke all the way outside! Jiang Ning, are you cooking, or playing with fire?
- Jiang Ning 阿姨，请坐。今天我做西红柿炒鸡蛋，请您吃。
Āyí, qǐngzuò. Jīntiān wǒ zuò xīhóngshì chǎo jīdàn, qǐng nín chī.
Auntie, please sit. Today I made tomato and egg. Please try it.
- Lu Wei 这……这是鸡蛋吗？还是西红柿？
Zhè… zhè shì jīdàn ma? Háishi xīhóngshì?
This... is this egg? Or tomato?
- Jiang Ning 陆伟！

- Lu Wei 我是说，很好吃！真的很好吃！
Wǒ shì shuō, hěn hǎochī! Zhēnde hěn hǎochī!
I mean, it's delicious! Really delicious!
- Mama Lu 这个……

- Mama Lu 有点儿黑，也不太好吃。
Yǒudiǎnr hēi, yě bú tài hǎochī.
A little black, and not very tasty.
- Mama Lu 可是这个味道……阿伟小时候，最爱吃我做的西红柿炒鸡蛋。
Kěshì zhège wèidào… Āwěi xiǎoshíhou, zuì ài chī wǒ zuò de xīhóngshì chǎo jīdàn.
But this taste... When A-Wei was small, tomato and egg was his favorite of my dishes.
- Lu Wei 妈……

- Mama Lu 你第一次做饭，可以了。我再吃一口，再吃一口。
Nǐ dì yī cì zuòfàn, kěyǐ le. Wǒ zài chī yì kǒu, zài chī yì kǒu.
It's your first time cooking, so it's fine. I'll have another bite, and another.
- Jiang Ning 她吃第二口了！
Tā chī dì èr kǒu le!
She's having a second bite!
- Mama Lu 来，阿伟，喝茶。这是家里最好的绿茶。
Lái, Āwěi, hē chá. Zhè shì jiālǐ zuìhǎo de lǜchá.
Here, A-Wei, drink some tea. It's the best green tea from home.
