A Hard Job

Nobody wants to kill anyone, but there is no other way home. So the friends set off into the empty West, where someone with one far-seeing eye is watching.

That night the four friends sat together, and nobody said a word.
- Dorothy 我想回家……可是我不想杀谁。
Wǒ xiǎng huí jiā… kěshì wǒ bù xiǎng shā shéi.
I want to go home... but I don't want to kill anyone.
- Scarecrow 不去的话，我就永远没有脑子了。
Bú qù dehuà, wǒ jiù yǒngyuǎn méiyǒu nǎozi le.
If we don't go, I'll never have any brains.

Wǒ jiù yǒngyuǎn jiàn bu dào Àimǔ Shěnshen hé Hēnglì Shūshu le.
And I'll never see Aunt Em and Uncle Henry again.
- Cowardly Lion 我……我很怕。可是我们一起去西边吧！
Wǒ… wǒ hěn pà. Kěshì wǒmen yìqǐ qù xībian ba!
I... I'm very scared. But let's go west, all of us together!
- Scarecrow 狮子，是你先说要去的！你有勇气！我也去！
Shīzi, shì nǐ xiān shuō yào qù de! Nǐ yǒu yǒngqì! Wǒ yě qù!
Lion, you were the first to say we should go! You've got courage! I'm going too!
- Tin Woodman 我不想打谁。可是你们去哪儿，我就去哪儿。
Wǒ bù xiǎng dǎ shéi. Kěshì nǐmen qù nǎr, wǒ jiù qù nǎr.
I don't want to hurt anyone. But wherever you go, I go.
- Gatekeeper 一大早就要走？眼镜我来拿。出了翡翠城，就不用戴了。
Yídàzǎo jiù yào zǒu? Yǎnjìng wǒ lái ná. Chū le Fěicuìchéng, jiù bú yòng dài le.
Off at the crack of dawn? I'll take those glasses. Outside the Emerald City you won't need them.
- Dorothy 去西方女巫那儿，走哪条路？
Qù Xīfāng Nǚwū nàr, zǒu nǎ tiáo lù?
Which road goes to the Wicked Witch of the West?
- Gatekeeper 没有路。谁也不去那儿。
Méiyǒu lù. Shéi yě bú qù nàr.
There is no road. Nobody ever goes there.
- Dorothy 那我们怎么找她？
Nà wǒmen zěnme zhǎo tā?
Then how will we find her?
- Gatekeeper 不用找。她会找到你们，让你们给她干活！
Bú yòng zhǎo. Tā huì zhǎodào nǐmen, ràng nǐmen gěi tā gànhuó!
You won't have to. She'll find you, and she'll make you work for her!
- Scarecrow 我们去找她，让她不能再做坏事！
Wǒmen qù zhǎo tā, ràng tā bù néng zài zuò huàishì!
We're going to find her, and stop her doing wicked things!
- Gatekeeper 好吧……往西走，往太阳下山的地方走。小心！
Hǎo ba… Wǎng xī zǒu, wǎng tàiyáng xiàshān de dìfang zǒu. Xiǎoxīn!
Well then... Go west, toward where the sun goes down. And be careful!
- Tin Woodman 没有路，没有房子，也没有树……
Méiyǒu lù, méiyǒu fángzi, yě méiyǒu shù…
No road, no houses, not even a tree...
- Scarecrow 多萝西，你看托托！它的绿带子变白了！
Duōluóxī, nǐ kàn Tuōtuō! Tā de lǜ dàizi biàn bái le!
Dorothy, look at Toto! His green ribbon has turned white!
- Dorothy 真的！怎么会这样？
Zhēn de! Zěnme huì zhèyàng?
It has! How can that be?
- Cowardly Lion 太阳好热……我走不动了。
Tàiyáng hǎo rè… wǒ zǒu bu dòng le.
This sun is so hot... I can't walk another step.
- Tin Woodman 你们睡吧。我和稻草人不睡，我们看着。
Nǐmen shuì ba. Wǒ hé Dàocǎorén bú shuì, wǒmen kàn zhe.
You sleep. The Scarecrow and I don't sleep. We'll keep watch.
- Narrator 很远很远的西边，西方女巫靠着黑伞，站在城堡门口。
Hěn yuǎn hěn yuǎn de xībian, Xīfāng Nǚwū kào zhe hēi sǎn, zhàn zài chéngbǎo ménkǒu.
Far, far away in the West, the Wicked Witch of the West stood at her castle door, leaning on her black umbrella.
- Witch of the West 我就一只眼睛，可是这是千里眼！
Wǒ jiù yì zhī yǎnjing, kěshì zhè shì qiānlǐyǎn!
I've only got one eye, but it sees a thousand miles!
- Witch of the West 谁在我的地方睡觉？一个女孩，一只小狗……还有三个怪物！
Shéi zài wǒ de dìfang shuìjiào? Yí gè nǚhái, yì zhī xiǎogǒu… hái yǒu sān gè guàiwu!
Who's sleeping in my land? A girl, a little dog... and three freaks!
- Narrator 她拿出银色的哨子，吹了一下。四十只大狼跑了过来。
Tā náchū yínsè de shàozi, chuī le yíxià. Sìshí zhī dà láng pǎo le guòlai.
She took out her silver whistle and blew it once. Forty great wolves came running.
- Witch of the West 我的狼，去！去抓他们！
Wǒ de láng, qù! Qù zhuā tāmen!
Go, my wolves! Go and get them!
